As the new Overseer of Sector Four, I did not see the slaves as humans, or even as workers; I saw them as "Biological Batteries" walking on two legs. I sat behind Arkon's old desk, contemplating the copper badge that gave me the right to decide who lives and who dies in this dark pit.
"Authority in the hands of the ignorant is a burden, but in the hands of an Alchemist, it is a 'Reaction Accelerator'." I thought coldly, observing the energy flows in the outer corridor through my (Icy Raven's Eye).
I began implementing my grand plan: "The Silent Harvest." I ordered the slaves to dig new paths—ostensibly to search for new energy veins to compensate for the family's losses—but their true purpose was to construct a giant "Absorption Matrix." I was hybridizing mining engineering with forbidden spiritual circuits, turning the entire Sector Four into a massive "Stomach" that digested the earth's energy and funneled it secretly into my body.
However, there was an uncalculated "Variable" in my equation: Kai.
In the corner of the room, Kai sat with an eerie stillness. He no longer trembled; instead, his skin had turned waxy pale, and his veins began to bulge with a dark blue hue. The surgical modifications I performed to expand his neural pathways hadn't just enhanced him; they had begun a (Self-Mutation).
"Interesting," I thought, approaching him with the Spiritual Microscope. "Kai's body didn't reject the hybridized Frost Raven energy; it began 'Fermenting' it. He isn't cultivating phantoms; he has become a 'Cultures Medium' for a new type of spiritual parasite."
"Ether..." Kai spoke in a voice that no longer sounded like his own; it was a cold resonance, like the friction of ice. "I... I no longer feel fear. I only feel... Hunger."
There was no pity in my heart, only "Scientific Jubilation." "Hunger is the first sign of ascension, Kai. Fear is the emotion of slaves; hunger is the instinct of hunters. It seems the 'Tool' is beginning to develop its own teeth."
Suddenly, the alarm bell rang at the mine's entrance. The High Inspection Committee from the Island Capital had arrived. It was led by "Lady Miral," a cultivator of (Rank 3 - Sovereignty). She doesn't just possess an eye of insight; she has a "Sovereign Aura" that can detect lies through the vibration of molecules in the air.
"The game is becoming entertaining," I thought, covering Kai's body with a heavy cloak and concealing my energy density behind a misleading "Ice Shell." "Rank 3 is a new challenge for anatomy. Miral is not an easy prey like Arkon, but her body contains 'High-Grade Phantoms' that will be excellent fuel for my journey toward Rank 2."
I went out to greet her with the smile of an obedient slave, while my mind was already calculating the number of surgical stabs required to disable her Sovereign System.
