Chapter 16 - Forced Convergence

Silence was not absence.

It was pressure.

The entire battlefield had folded inward at the exact moment Li Feng forced the fragments inside him into violent convergence. What followed was not an explosion outward, but a compression event so dense that reality itself seemed to hesitate before continuing.

For a few seconds, nothing moved.

Not the wind.

Not Qi.

Not perception.

Then—

A pulse.

It came from Li Feng.

Low.

Deep.

Irregular.

His body stood at the center of a collapsing stability field, his posture rigid as if holding together something that actively wanted to break apart from within. His breathing was no longer a rhythm; it was a negotiation.

[WARNING: Host structural integrity at 41%]

The system flickered violently in his vision.

Not stable enough to be readable.

Not broken enough to shut down.

Li Feng slowly lifted his head.

His eyes were unfocused for a moment, as if his consciousness had temporarily shifted out of alignment with his physical form.

"…Still here," he muttered.

His voice didn't echo correctly.

The sound arrived slightly delayed, like it had to travel through fractured layers of reality before reaching the world.

Across from him, the sect leader remained still.

But not calm.

Observing.

Measuring.

Adjusting.

"You forced convergence," the leader said.

Li Feng didn't respond immediately.

The act of forming a response itself took processing effort.

"…I had no choice."

The leader's eyes narrowed slightly.

"There is always a choice. You simply chose instability."

A second pulse rippled from Li Feng's body.

The ground beneath him cracked—not outwardly—but in overlapping directions, as if multiple versions of the same fracture were occurring at once.

His internal structure was misaligned.

Fragments were not integrated.

They were stacked.

Pressing.

Competing.

And worse—

Evolving inside chaos.

[WARNING: Dao Fragment behavior abnormal]

[Warning: Nonlinear mutation detected]

Li Feng exhaled sharply.

"…This is not fusion," he muttered.

The leader took a single step forward.

"It is uncontrolled synthesis."

A pause.

"And it is killing you slowly."

Li Feng's fingers twitched.

For the first time since the battle began, he tried to reach inward and manually stabilize the fragments.

But the moment he did—

Pain.

Not physical.

Conceptual.

As if his internal existence rejected the attempt to impose order.

His knees almost buckled.

[ERROR: Stabilization attempt rejected]

Li Feng gritted his teeth.

"…So I can't control it anymore."

The leader answered immediately.

"No."

"You never had full control. You only had access."

Another step forward.

Each step from the leader now carried structural pressure.

Not force.

Correction.

The surrounding space began to stabilize itself automatically in response to his presence. Broken fragments of Qi field slowly reassembled behind him, like reality trying to obey his existence instead of Li Feng's.

Li Feng noticed.

"…You're restoring the field."

The leader nodded.

"Yes."

A pause.

"To prevent further deviation."

Li Feng gave a short, almost humorless laugh.

"…Deviations from what?"

The leader did not answer directly.

Instead—

He raised his hand.

And the entire field tightened again.

But this time, it wasn't suppression.

It was alignment.

Li Feng's internal fragments reacted instantly.

They resonated violently with the external structure.

His body stiffened.

"…You're syncing me to your system," he said slowly.

The leader's expression remained unchanged.

"I am stabilizing you."

Li Feng's eyes sharpened slightly.

"That's the same thing."

The leader didn't deny it.

The pressure increased.

Li Feng felt his internal structure beginning to lock into a foreign pattern.

Not healing.

Not recovery.

Replacement of chaos with external order.

His breathing became irregular again.

[WARNING: External alignment override detected]

Li Feng took a step back.

It was unsteady.

The leader followed immediately with the same distance forward.

"No further deviation," the leader said.

Li Feng's voice dropped.

"…If you complete this alignment, what happens to me?"

The leader paused for the first time.

Then answered carefully.

"You survive."

A beat.

"But you cease being what you currently are."

Silence.

The fragments inside Li Feng surged again, as if reacting to the statement itself.

He looked down slightly.

"…So you're trying to erase the system inside me."

The leader corrected him.

"Not erase."

"Contain."

A second pulse.

This one stronger.

The ground beneath Li Feng began to stabilize against his will, forcing his unstable fragments into increasingly rigid structure.

He clenched his fist.

Pain again.

Not from damage.

From restriction.

"…I won't fit into your structure," he said quietly.

The leader's gaze sharpened.

"You already are."

Li Feng looked up.

For a brief moment—

Something changed in his expression.

Not rage.

Not fear.

Recognition.

"…Then your structure is wrong."

The leader moved instantly.

Too fast for normal perception.

The strike landed directly on Li Feng's chest.

But instead of force—

It carried correction pressure.

The intent was clear.

Force alignment at the core.

Li Feng's body bent backward slightly, but did not fall.

Instead—

The internal fragments reacted violently.

They rejected synchronization.

The system screamed.

[WARNING: Host rejecting external alignment]

[WARNING: Internal collapse imminent]

Li Feng coughed once.

Then smiled faintly.

"…I see it now."

The leader's eyes narrowed.

"You see nothing."

Li Feng shook his head slightly.

"No."

"I see the flaw."

The leader paused.

For the first time—

Uncertainty flickered.

And in that instant—

Li Feng stopped resisting.

Completely.

The fragments inside him stopped fighting alignment.

Stopped resisting structure.

Stopped trying to stabilize.

And instead—

He let them collapse inward again.

But not randomly.

Not chaotically.

Intentionally.

The system immediately reacted.

[CRITICAL WARNING: Forced internal collapse initiated]

The leader's expression changed sharply.

"…Stop."

But Li Feng had already crossed the point of control.

The fragments didn't break.

They compressed.

Into a single point.

A singularity of unstable Dao structure forming at his core.

The battlefield trembled again.

But this time—

It wasn't collapsing outward.

It was being pulled inward.

Everything.

Qi.

Space.

Pressure.

Even the leader's stabilizing field.

All of it began to drift toward Li Feng's center.

The leader's eyes widened slightly.

"…That's not alignment," he said quietly.

"That's inversion."

Li Feng's voice came out fractured.

"…Yeah."

A pause.

Then softer:

"I'm done fitting in."

The singularity expanded slightly.

Then stabilized.

Not safely.

Not correctly.

But absolutely.

And in that moment—

The entire sect felt it.

Something had changed.

Something irreversible.# Chapter 16: Forced Convergence
