Chapter 2 - chapter-2 (the sorcerer's trap)

The palace courtyard now resembled a graveyard—not of the dead, but of the "Shadow Warriors" who were being turned to ash by Aryan's blade and Zoya's sorcery. Blue flames licked the air, and the atmosphere was thick with the heat of raw magic.

Zoya pointed toward the figure looming on the palace spire. "Zarkas! For centuries, he has craved the Blue Fire of Azrak. If he seizes the 'Noor-e-Azrak' (the Source of Blue Fire), the entire world will be plunged into eternal darkness."

Aryan decapitated another shadow and rushed to Zoya's side. His face was smeared with blood and sweat, but his eyes held no trace of fear. "Then nothing can stop us from reaching him. Zoya, are you ready?"

Zoya nodded, raising both hands as she chanted an ancient mantra. Suddenly, a wall of brilliant blue light erupted from the ground, halting the advancing shadows. "We must take the secret royal passage to the top!"

They sprinted through the palace's mysterious corridors. Ancient lamps on the walls ignited spontaneously as they passed. Aryan noticed Zoya's breath growing heavy—wielding such immense magic was draining her life force.

"Zoya, stop," Aryan said, catching her hand and pulling her into a shadowed alcove. He took her face in his hands. "You must conserve your strength. I need you at your full power to face Zarkas."

Zoya took a deep breath, looking into Aryan's eyes. "I'm fine, Aryan. I just... I need to lean on you for a moment."

Without a word, Aryan pulled her against his chest. In that heartbeat, the sounds of the war outside seemed to fade away. In the rhythm of Aryan's heart, Zoya found the peace she always sought. Aryan kissed her forehead and whispered, "As long as I draw breath, no harm shall come to the Queen of Azrak."

But that peace lasted only a few seconds. Suddenly, black hands began clawing out from the very walls. Zarkas had found them!

"Run!" Aryan shouted.

They burst through the final door of the spire, where Zarkas stood waiting. His face was ancient and grotesque, his eyes burning with pure greed.

"A Princess... and a rebel mage. What a beautiful pair," Zarkas's voice rasped like breaking glass. "But alas, tonight the Blue Fire of Azrak belongs to me."

Zarkas swept his hand through the air, sending a black vortex toward them. Aryan tried to block it with his sword, but the force was overwhelming, hurling him across the stone floor.

"Aryan!" Zoya screamed.

Zarkas advanced on her. "It is your turn, Sultana. Surrender your magic to me, or watch your lover die."

Zoya looked at Aryan, who was struggling to stand, and then back at Zarkas. Her choice was made. Her eyes began to glow with a blue light more intense than ever before.

"You want the 'Secret of the Blue Fire'? Then take it... and feel its burn!"

Zoya gathered every ounce of her power into a single point, triggering an explosion that blew the roof off the spire. A tidal wave of blue fire erupted, throwing Zarkas back. But the cost of such power could be fatal...

Will Zoya sacrifice her life to destroy Zarkas? Or will Aryan reach her in time?
