Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 ~ The Crown of Shadows

The city felt different.

Not quieter.

Not safer.

Just… aware.

Like something beneath it had awakened—and it was only a matter of time before everything on the surface felt it too.

---

Dawn

The first light of morning barely touched the skyline when Luna stepped onto the penthouse balcony.

She hadn't slept.

Not after the port.

Not after Arman.

Not after the moment something inside her finally… settled.

She stood still, hands resting lightly on the cold railing, eyes fixed on the horizon.

Below her—

A city built on secrets.

And now—

A city waiting for a new ruler.

---

Footsteps behind her.

She didn't turn.

"Couldn't sleep?" Brevis asked.

"No."

"Same."

He leaned against the glass door, watching her.

"You're different today."

Luna's voice was quiet.

"I know."

Brevis studied her.

"Not in a bad way."

She didn't respond.

Because she knew what he meant.

She could feel it too.

The hesitation was gone.

The doubt—

Gone.

What remained was something sharper.

Something dangerous.

Something… clear.

---

Inside

Adrian stood near the table, reviewing data on multiple screens.

The financial collapse they caused had already begun to ripple.

Victor's system wasn't destroyed.

But it was bleeding.

Badly.

"His networks are scrambling," Adrian said without looking up.

Brevis walked in.

"Good. Let them panic."

Luna followed a second later.

Calm. Focused.

Adrian finally looked at her.

And for a brief moment—

He paused.

Because whatever he saw in her eyes—

It wasn't the same Luna anymore.

---

The Shift

"We don't wait," Luna said.

Brevis raised an eyebrow.

"Didn't plan to."

Luna stepped closer to the table.

"We move now."

Adrian tilted his head slightly.

"Directly?"

"Yes."

Brevis smirked.

"Now that's my kind of plan."

Adrian wasn't as quick to agree.

"He'll be expecting retaliation."

Luna nodded.

"I know."

"Then why rush?"

Luna met his gaze.

"Because hesitation is what he expects."

Silence.

Then Adrian nodded slowly.

"…fair."

Brevis leaned forward.

"So where do we hit him next?"

Luna's finger tapped the screen.

"A control point."

Adrian frowned slightly.

"That's risky."

Brevis grinned.

"That's fun."

Luna didn't smile.

"It's necessary."

---

Hours Later

The location was deeper inside the city.

Hidden behind layers of legitimate business fronts.

But they knew what it really was.

One of Victor's command centers.

Not the main one.

But important enough to hurt.

---

Before the Attack

They stood in the shadows across the street.

Watching.

Waiting.

Brevis checked his weapon.

Adrian scanned the exits.

Luna—

Was completely still.

Brevis glanced at her.

"You ready?"

She didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Adrian stepped closer.

"Once we go in… there's no subtlety."

Luna looked at him.

"I'm not here to be subtle."

Brevis chuckled.

"I like this version of you."

---

The Attack

It started fast.

And it stayed fast.

Brevis kicked open the door.

Gunfire followed instantly.

Adrian moved with precision, taking down targets before they could react.

Luna walked in last—

But not behind.

Beside them.

Equal.

Deadly.

Controlled.

This wasn't chaos.

This was strategy in motion.

Every move planned.

Every shot intentional.

The guards didn't stand a chance.

Within minutes—

The building was theirs.

---

Inside the Control Room

Screens flickered.

Systems still active.

Data still flowing.

Luna stepped forward.

"This is it."

Adrian joined her.

"If we take this…"

"…we take part of his control," she finished.

Brevis leaned against the wall.

"Then what are you waiting for?"

Luna moved to the console.

Her fingers hovered over the system.

Just like before.

But this time—

It felt different.

Because this wasn't just destruction.

This was takeover.

---

The Moment

"Luna."

Adrian's voice stopped her.

She looked at him.

"This changes things."

"I know."

"You won't just be fighting him anymore."

Luna's eyes didn't waver.

"I'm not planning to."

Silence.

Brevis watched both of them carefully.

Something was shifting again.

Between them.

---

The Takeover

Luna began typing.

Fast.

Precise.

Focused.

But Adrian noticed something.

This wasn't just hacking.

This was control.

Rewriting.

Rebuilding.

"You're not shutting it down…" he said quietly.

Luna didn't stop.

"No."

Brevis frowned.

"Then what are you doing?"

Her answer came calm.

"I'm taking it."

Silence.

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"You're integrating into his system."

"Yes."

Brevis pushed off the wall.

"Okay… that sounds complicated."

Luna's voice didn't change.

"It's necessary."

Adrian stepped closer.

"You're exposing yourself."

"Yes."

"You'll become visible."

"Yes."

Silence.

Then Adrian said something that shifted everything.

"That's exactly what Victor wants."

Luna stopped typing for a second.

Just a second.

Then—

Continued.

"I know."

Brevis looked between them.

"Hold on… that sounds bad."

Adrian's voice dropped.

"It is."

He grabbed her wrist.

"Stop."

Luna pulled her hand away.

"No."

Adrian's eyes hardened.

"You're walking into his control."

Luna met his gaze.

"No."

Her voice was steady.

"I'm taking it from him."

Silence.

Brevis stepped in.

"Alright… someone explain this to me clearly."

Adrian didn't look away from Luna.

"If she connects fully to the system…"

"…Victor can track her," Brevis finished.

Luna nodded.

"Yes."

Brevis blinked.

"…and you're okay with that?"

Luna's voice dropped slightly.

"He's already hunting me."

Adrian's tone sharpened.

"This gives him direct access."

"And it gives me access to him."

Silence.

Tense.

Heavy.

Then—

Brevis exhaled slowly.

"…that's insane."

Luna didn't deny it.

"Yes."

Adrian stepped closer.

"You're not thinking clearly."

Luna's eyes flashed.

"No."

She leaned in slightly.

"I'm thinking exactly how I should."

Something in her tone—

Hit harder than anything else.

Adrian went quiet.

Because for the first time—

He wasn't sure if he could stop her.

---

The Break

"Luna," Brevis said more seriously now.

"This isn't just risk."

"I know."

"You could lose everything."

Luna looked at him.

"I already did."

Silence.

That answer—

Ended the argument.

Because it was true.

---

The Choice

Adrian stepped back slowly.

His voice quieter now.

"If you do this…"

He paused.

"You won't come back from it."

Luna didn't hesitate.

"I'm not trying to."

Something broke in that moment.

Not loudly.

Not violently.

But deeply.

Inside Adrian.

Inside Brevis.

Because they both realized the same thing.

She wasn't following them anymore.

She wasn't beside them.

She was ahead.

---

The Connection

Luna placed her hand on the system.

Final input ready.

She took a breath.

Then—

Executed it.

The system reacted instantly.

Screens flickered violently.

Data streams exploded across every monitor.

Access chains opened.

Firewalls collapsed.

And then—

It connected.

Fully.

Completely.

Dangerously.

---

Somewhere Else

Victor Salazar stood in his office.

Watching.

Waiting.

Then—

Every screen lit up at once.

His system.

His network.

His control.

Being accessed.

Not attacked.

Not destroyed.

Taken.

Victor smiled slowly.

"She did it."

---

Back in the Control Room

Luna stood still.

Eyes focused.

Breathing steady.

But something was different.

Something deeper.

Her voice came quieter.

"…I can see everything."

Brevis frowned.

"That doesn't sound normal."

Adrian watched her carefully.

"What do you mean?"

Luna's eyes moved slowly across the screens.

"His network…"

She paused.

"…it's bigger than we thought."

Adrian nodded.

"I told you."

Luna looked at him.

"No."

Her voice dropped.

"You didn't know this."

Silence.

Brevis stepped closer.

"What are you seeing?"

Luna's expression changed slightly.

Not fear.

Something else.

Recognition.

"There are more people."

Adrian frowned.

"Of course there are."

Luna shook her head.

"No."

Her eyes darkened.

"Above Victor."

Everything stopped.

Brevis blinked.

"…you're kidding."

Adrian didn't speak.

Because he knew—

She wasn't.

---

Final Line

Luna slowly lifted her gaze.

Her voice calm.

Cold.

Certain.

"This war…"

She paused.

"…is just beginning."
