Chapter 27 - Hanzo of the Salamander’s Legacy

The next morning—

Rain.

Heavy. Endless.

Konan walked beside Shenyue Yuan through the streets of Amegakure.

Both wearing Akatsuki cloaks—

For the first time, it actually felt like a mission.

What surprised Yuan—

No one stared.

No whispers.

No fear.

The villagers simply… lived.

She really runs this place well.

They passed a breakfast stall.

Yuan stopped.

After confirming Konan didn't want anything—

He bought rice balls and tamagoyaki.

On the way back—

Two children slipped while playing.

About to crash into boiling oil—

Yuan casually grabbed both of them mid-fall.

"Sorry!! Thank you!!"

They ran off.

Yuan clicked his tongue.

"The whole village is basically my property."

"If you break something, can you even afford it?"

He paid.

Then paused—

Holding the small green frog wallet in his hand.

That stupid grin—

That messy blonde hair—

Naruto Uzumaki appeared in his mind.

That night—

Naruto had quietly stuffed the wallet into his pocket.

All his ramen savings.

Afraid his "poor senior" would starve.

But too proud to say it out loud.

"…Damn."

Yuan exhaled softly.

Then muttered—

"You could've just handed it to me directly."

He started walking again—

Tap.

Tap.

The metal staff touched the ground—

Guiding him through the darkness.

…Wait.

My mission is to capture Naruto.

"…That's awkward."

He thought for a moment—

Then grinned.

"Or…"

"Recruit him into Akatsuki?"

"Future Hokage and Akatsuki member aren't mutually exclusive, right?"

"And the Nine-Tails…"

"…I'll take that burden instead."

A pause.

"…Yeah."

"I'm such a good senior."

"You're smiling again."

Konan's voice cut in.

"You're about to walk straight into me."

Yuan stopped abruptly.

"Sorry."

She looked at him carefully.

"Aren't you able to sense your surroundings?"

"I can."

"But why waste chakra while walking?"

"..."

Fair enough.

Then—

Her gaze shifted.

To the frog wallet.

And just like that—

She froze.

The memory returned.

A small wooden house.

By the lake.

Yahiko.

Nagato.

And her.

Under the guidance of Jiraiya.

The happiest days.

Frog pajamas.

Warm light.

Simple meals.

And now—

This scene overlapped.

"I want… a rice ball."

The words slipped out unconsciously.

Even she paused.

That was inappropriate.

But before she could retract it—

A rice ball was already placed in her hand.

"Told you you were hungry."

She blinked.

Then quietly accepted it.

"…Why were you sensing me earlier?"

Yuan immediately shot back:

"You're slandering me."

"You were staring at my wallet first."

"I thought you were planning to steal my money."

"…???"

Konan went silent.

What kind of logic is that…?

Ten minutes later—

They arrived.

A massive steel tower.

The former political center of Amegakure.

Ninjas stood guard.

At the sight of Konan—

They all bowed.

"Angel-sama."

Inside—

The building was alive.

Unlike the cold Akatsuki tower.

Work. Movement. Purpose.

They climbed higher.

Walked through corridors—

Until—

They stopped before a wooden door.

"Angel-sama!"

Two ANBU bowed.

The door opened.

Yuan's chakra spread instantly—

Scanning—

Mapping—

Inside his mind—

Shelves.

Rows upon rows.

Scrolls.

Books.

Archives.

A massive library.

"Besides jutsu scrolls,"

Konan explained,

"There are also books."

Most of it—

Looted.

From war.

From one man—

Hanzo.

This tower—

Was his legacy.

Yuan nodded slowly.

A faint smile appeared.

"Perfect."

"This is exactly what I needed."
