Story Title: Does Love Grow Old?

Author: Sagar Kumar

In a small corner of a quiet village, there lived an elderly couple, Ramesh and Saraswati, in a tiny mud house. They had crossed many years of life—Ramesh was seventy, and Saraswati was sixty-five. Their hair had turned white, and they needed sticks to walk, yet their faces carried a strange peace and warmth.

Every morning, Ramesh would wake up early and sweep the courtyard. At the same time, Saraswati would light the stove and cook rice. In these simple daily tasks, their love quietly lived and breathed.

One day, a young boy from the neighborhood asked,

"Grandpa, is there really any love left at your age?"

Ramesh smiled but said nothing. He simply looked at Saraswati and gave a gentle smile.

That afternoon, Saraswati suddenly felt unwell. She felt dizzy and weak. Ramesh became very worried. He gave her water with his own hands, brought her medicine, and stayed awake the entire night, checking on her again and again.

Late at night, Saraswati softly asked,

"Do you still care for me this much?"

After a brief pause, Ramesh replied,

"Can caring for you ever decrease?"

Tears filled Saraswati's eyes. Even after so many years together, this care and affection—this was true love.

The next morning, the same young boy came again. He saw Ramesh gently combing Saraswati's hair with his own hands. Surprised, the boy asked,

"Grandpa, you are doing all this yourself?"

Ramesh calmly replied,

"When we were young, she did everything for me. Now she is not well, so I do it. Love is not just about being together in happy times, but also about never letting go during difficult times."

The boy fell silent. He realized that he had never truly understood the meaning of love.

Days turned into months, and months into years. Ramesh and Saraswati grew older, their bodies weaker. But their love remained the same—strong, pure, and unbreakable.

One evening, Ramesh was sitting in the courtyard, looking at the sky. Saraswati came and sat beside him and said,

"You know, I used to think love fades as we grow older."

Ramesh smiled gently and said,

"Love never grows old—only people do."

Saraswati held his hand tightly. In that moment, it felt as if time had stopped. All the storms, struggles, and sorrows of their lives had passed, but the love that still remained was their greatest treasure.

People in the village often said,

"Such love even at this age!"

But Ramesh and Saraswati knew the truth—love has no age. It is made of care, trust, and deep understanding.

And in the end, only one truth remains—

Love never grows old, if it is true.
