Drystan, the hunters' leader, was heavily chained. When he looked up, his eyes fell directly upon Clark. "How could you deceive your own kind?" he spat out, his voice laced with betrayal.
"To save the remaining hunters from dying," Clark explained flatly, meeting his gaze. "You were trying everything to draw Prince Gideon out, regardless of the cost. I couldn't let you drag everyone down with you. Seeing you turn completely reckless left me with no other choice."
Ensley stepped forward, drawing his dagger from its scabbard. He pressed the sharp tip firmly beneath Drystan's chin, forcing the hunter leader's head up. The edge of the blade rested just a fraction of an inch away from slicing his throat.
