"How long are we going to stay like this?" Adeline asked, her voice barely a whisper in the quiet of the room.
Gideon kept his hands wrapped firmly around her from behind, pulling her flush against his chest to ground himself.
"I feel agitated the moment I move away from you," Gideon admitted. "My wolf and I are still trying to understand your scent."
He rested his chin on her shoulder, the heat from his body radiating through her. Tilting his face slightly, he pressed a tender kiss on the side of her neck, causing her to flinch as a spark of electricity shot through her.
Adeline's nerves frayed at the sudden proximity, and she instinctively braced herself for what she thought would come next. A possessive, deep kiss that would consume her.
To her wonder, however, Gideon pulled away. He took a steadying breath, his hands lingering on her waist for a second longer before he stepped back completely, putting a small distance between them.
