Chapter 27 - First Day [4]

Corvin gave equal attention to every student in our class.

He gave them all advice on things like what muscles they should train more, how to fix their bad postures, and how to improve their weapon control.

He helped everyone except Liam and me, who were basically sitting on a bench in the scorching hot sun.

I wiped my forehead. "Man... should I summon ice?"

"It's not that hot," Liam spoke.

I looked to my side at him, who sat calmly despite the heat.

"For you, yeah," I spoke.

"I'm serious, it's not that hot, maybe it's your body thats like that, dude," Liam replied. He didn't seem to be joking.

"He's not lying, it's not warm at all," Nira spoke as she walked to us.

She looked completely serious.

'Vaelis, is that possible?'

'Yes, the ice-body you've developed is a lot more sensitive to heat, so any sort of heat will feel significantly higher than it once did.' Vaelis answered.

'Wait... so I can't even go to the beach without sweating a river?'

'...' Vaelis didn't answer, but the silence was confirmation.

I got off the bench and fell to my knees.

"NOOOO!!"

------

After the class ended, the rest of the class was guided by Professor Black.

Who, to my surprise, was a middle-aged-looking woman, and she had a tall figure and wore what resembled a military uniform.

The novel never mentioned her, but from what I've heard, she loves to torture children, at least according to Nira, who wasn't necessarily the most trustworthy source of information.

"You two follow me," Corvin spoke to Liam and me with a serious expression and led us through the halls.

We passed many other students who gazed at us with curious expressions as they all moved to their classes.

It was mostly first years and a few third years; the second years were probably out on their missions.

We eventually reached a part of the academy where there were no students.

The Faculty facilities.

It was a rather large building.

The walls blended perfectly into the academy's circular shape and gave off a sleek, modern vibe with tinted windows and lots of floors.

This was where the teachers' offices, research facilities, and other stuff were.

Stepping inside, my eyes widened slightly.

The inside was a lot more old school with wooden tiles, and...

"Candles?" I spoke.

"The headmaster has... unique tastes," Corvin explained.

'First a sports car and then this...? That's kind of cool, actually.'

Corvin led us toward his office, which was on the second floor.

The entire building was surprisingly quiet. I hadn't even seen another professor, maybe because it was the first day, so they were too busy with students to be here.

Stepping inside Corvin's office felt like stepping into a parent's room after you broke the TV or something.

His office was pretty simple: a desk, some shelves on the wall that had no books, and flower vases... a lot of flower vases.

"Professor, you must really like flowers," I spoke.

".... They're from... Professor Black." His expression was complicated.

I instantly made an assumption.

Jake had watched a lot of romcoms back on Earth, so anytime I saw even the slightest sign of a possible romance, I felt the need to find out more.

I smiled, "Professor, if you ever need dating advice, just call me."

"..."

"..."

Both Liam and Corvin stared at me with dumbfounded expressions.

"I dont think I'll need that, but thank you. Now back to the main point of why I brought you two here." His expression turned serious.

"I'm offering you both the opportunity to be taught personally by me."

'There it is.'

This is exactly what I wanted to happen; in fact, I only sparred with Liam so he would offer us this.

Getting one-on-one teaching from someone like him would solve a problem that Vaelis can't.

My weapon skills.

Although I still have the teachings the old Cassian received its not enough. I needed to have solid sword skills that I could blend with my ice. That's another reason I revealed my ice so Corvin could see it.

I put my prosthetic hand on my chin to make it seem like I was thinking.

While I was faking thoughts, Liam spoke.

"I accept." He spoke firmly without doubt.

Corvin smiled and turned to me. "And what of you?"

"Hmm... I accept as well."

Corvin's smile widened. "Okay, so you two will meet me on Saturdays and Sundays weekly from now on. Is that acceptable?"

"Yes, Professor." We spoke simultaneously.

"You may leave now, I'm sure Professor Black is eager to meet you two."

"Thank you, Professor." We bowed and left, closing the door behind us.

We walked out of the building and headed in the direction of-?

"Wait..." I paused.

Liam turned to me. "What?"

"Where do we go?" The novel never really gave an in-depth description of the academy's layout, so I didn't know where to go.

"I thought you said you read the map."

"I might have, maybe, possibly... forgotten completely about that."

"Haa... just follow me, we need to head to the field."

"What field?"

"That field." He pointed forward.

There was a massive field that was a blend of trimmed grass and reinforced ground that encircled the entire field, creating a running track.

There were white guiding lines painted on the track, and I spotted many students that...

Lied on their stomachs?

"MOVE!!"

"GET UP!! GO!!"

A loud, authoritative scream forced the students to weakly get back up and start running again.

Their clothes were drenched in sweat, and they looked barely conscious.

'What the fuck?'

"There you two are!!" A scream came directed at Liam and me.

Professor Black approached us with a... smile.

"Since you two are late, you'll have to do double what the rest are doing."

My face paled. "B-but Professor, we were called by-"

"Dont care, GET MOVING!!"

She blew the whistle around her neck so loud my eardrums hurt.

'God damn it.'

Nira was right.

'I'll never doubt her again.'

I reluctantly joined the other students.

Looking to my side, Liam didn't seem to mind as he had a neutral expression.

'Motherfucking protagonist bastard.'
