"I thought I might get something out of being kind to her a few times, then she started blushing in front of me as if having a crush on me. You wouldn't know how disgusting that was if you hadn't seen it."
The owner of the voice paused in the middle of speaking and chuckled. Then, perhaps encouraged to continue by someone beside him, he stopped laughing and continued talking.
"But if I knew she would change like this, I wouldn't have outright rejected her back then. If I had kept leading her on, I could have hooked her up and become Duke Atlante’s son-in-law, you know."
As I continued to listen, I could guess who the owner of the voice was. Because the number of people who had been somewhat kind to Sylvia could be counted on one hand, and those who had rejected her love confession was even less.
In fact, there was only one such person.
