Chapter 44 - Invitation

Like a lion that stops roaring after its hunger is satiated, the storm was over. I could still hear the wind outside, but it was more of a gentle weeping than a howling madness that almost killed Brian earlier. 

Before Senne intervened, that is. 

Karuhi had recovered somewhat too, although she didn't look as composed as she normally did. 

The power was back up, and there was no need for a mini campfire in my room anymore. Much to Senne's disappointment, I put away the candle and we sat in the middle of the room again, for there really weren't any other place to sit. 

I wanted to ask Karuhi when she would be heading home, but I held back as I thought that might come across as a little rude. So I decided to revisit the topic that made me curious earlier. 

"So what were you actually 'investigating' before?" I asked her. 

"Well, I saw an unusually high concentration of lightning in this area," she said, her voice somewhat cold.
