Chapter 4 - Improbable

The girl frowned, her brows furrowing in bewilderment. Then, her amethyst eyes widened.

"Wait a second. You can speak peridian!" She exclaimed before narrowing her eyes and raising her daggers threateningly. "How?"

Hill lowered the bloody horn as his own confusion amplified.

How the hell is an alien speaking peridian? Does that mean she isn't an alien? But her hair... and those eyes! They don't look like contact lenses... He grimaced as a painful throb wracked his head. This is just way too much.

"Answer my question." The girl demanded, stepping forward menacingly. "How are you able to speak—"

"Because I'm from Earth." Hill interrupted, stepping backward cautiously. "What about you?"

"I'm from Earth as well."

Hill stared at her blankly, the horn slipping an inch because of his sweaty grip. For a moment, silence passed between them, interrupted only the ambient rustling of the canopy above.

"Bullshit," Hill blurted out.

The girl raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"You heard me! You're not from Earth!" Hill spat as a crooked smile crossed his face. "Eartlings don't have purple eyes and... and baby-blue hair! You look like you walked straight out of a damn cartoon! You have to be an alien!"

"I'm the alien?!" The girl scoffed, her voice pitching up in offended disbelief. She pointed one of her onyx daggers squarely at his face. "Have you looked in a puddle recently, you psychopath? You have literal demon eyes! They're bright red!"

"I was born with them!" Hill yelled back. "It's a genetic mutation! My whole family has red eyes as well! It's called biology, you alien freak!"

"Biology? Really?" She let out a humorless laugh. "Why should I believe you? You're standing here, drenched in blood and wearing pig skin as a diaper! Besides, you look just like them."

"Them?" Hill frowned. "Stop being vague. The hell are you talking about?"

"Oh come on," The girl muttered, rolling her eyes theatrically. "I'm not going to entertain this shit. You know damn well who I'm talking about."

"No I don't!"

"Yes you do! Don't waste your breath."

Hill's smile widened as his facial muscles began to twitch uncontrollably. "You're trying to piss me off."

A dangerous smile crossed the girl's face. "Oh yeah? And what'll you do about it?" She stepped even closer. "I dare you to stab me."
