The neon rain hammered the streets harder now, drumming against rooftops, puddles, and Elric's jacket in erratic staccato. Steam hissed from vents around the alley, curling into thick, wet fog that made the lights shimmer like fractured prisms.
Elric's eyes flicked between the six girls at his side. Each looked… different in focus, posture, and intent.
Lyra Vant crouched slightly, eyes sharp as blades. "Player, we need to move. Situation is escalating. Threat level unknown."
Kaida-9's fists clenched, heavy armor whirring. "Affirmative. Engagement parameters active. Unauthorized individuals must be neutralized."
Mii twirled in the rain, completely ignoring Kaida-9. "Ooooh! Combat! I love combat! Player, show us your moves!"
Pix grinned, bouncing side to side. "Ohhhh yes. Random chaos incoming. Let's see what your luck can do, Elric!"
Sera's soft, eerie voice floated in the air. "Probability calculations are… unreliable. This is impossible."
Elen stayed serene, calm, gentle an anchor amid the insanity. "Stay with me. Follow my lead. Trust your instincts."
Elric swallowed. "…Right. Follow the lead of… a spreadsheet, a stage diva, and someone who wants to kill everything."
He took a step forward and the alleyway lit up.
From above, a drone hovered silently at first, then pivoted. A red laser traced across the walls and the six figures. It wasn't subtle. It was scanning.
Lyra hissed. "Scanning for anomalies. All six of you are flagged. Containment units will deploy in… twenty seconds."
Kaida-9 growled. "Understood. Engagement: immediate."
Mii squealed dramatically. "Twenty seconds? That's not enough! Player, we need something!"
Pix bounced. "Ohhh, I love a ticking timer! This is RNG gold!"
Elric glanced at the drone. Single pulse, slow movement. "…Alright," he muttered. "Looks like a scripted trap. Perfect for a high-risk… high-reward run."
He took a step forward. Miscalculated. Slipped on a puddle.
The fall sent him sliding directly behind the drone.
"…What?" he murmured. "…Wait no. That… worked?"
The drone spun toward him. Red laser eyes slicing the alley. Fired. A short pulse of energy shot out, hitting the wall inches from his shoulder. Sparks flew.
Elric instinctively jumped and somehow landed directly on top of a barrel that tipped over and knocked the drone off-balance. It wobbled, sparked, then fell backward into a stack of crates.
"…Okay," Elric muttered, panting slightly. "That's… luck."
Lyra's eyes widened. "…Impossible."
Kaida-9 growled. "No… parameters… check again."
Mii clapped her hands. "See, Player?! You do have skill! Chaos skill!"
Pix danced around, pointing. "Or luck. Either way, we're winning!"
Sera stepped forward, voice soft but sharp. "This is highly improbable. Repeating pattern detected. Statistical anomaly: Elric D. Grimm."
Elen gently placed a hand on Elric's shoulder. "It's alright. You are… fine."
Elric blinked at her, chest still pounding. "…Yeah. Totally fine. Definitely fine. No problem at all."
Another drone appeared, larger this time. Sleek, black, weapons mounted along its sides. Red targeting lasers swept across the group.
Lyra hissed. "Containment units inbound. Ready for combat."
Kaida-9 slammed a fist into the ground. A shockwave ran through the alley. "I'll handle it."
Mii twirled dramatically. "I'll perform! Wait… I mean combat! Player, follow my lead!"
Pix zipped between the group, tapping controls on the nearest crate, activating what looked like a hacked turret. Sparks flew everywhere.
Elric hesitated. "…Okay. Step one: survive. Step two: do something stupid that somehow works."
He stepped forward. Misjudged another puddle. Slipped. Fell.
Right into the path of the drone's targeting laser.
It fired.
Hit… nothing.
A stray crate Pix had activated rolled in front of him at the perfect angle. The laser bounced, hitting a wall behind them.
"…Ohhhhhh," Elric whispered, stunned. "…yeah, okay. That's… definitely luck."
Lyra's sharp gaze softened for a fraction of a second. "…It can't be real."
Kaida-9 growled. "No system should allow survival under these odds."
Mii spun, hair drenched, rain dripping down her face. "Player! You're amazing!"
Pix giggled uncontrollably. "See? Chaos champion! RNG king!"
Sera's eyes narrowed. "…This is… unnatural."
Elen smiled calmly. "…You're handling it. Just trust yourself."
Elric grinned, water dripping into his eyes. "…Alright. Let's see what the next wave does."
And somewhere in the distance, the alley's lights flickered a faint system prompt appearing just at the edge of his vision:
[PLAYER LUCK: ACTIVATED]
Elric's grin widened. "…Ohhhhhh… this is gonna be fun."
