There was a fixed tram route from Fuer Street to the Tindero's Sphere plaza in the Academy District. Such tram routes had expanded to more than a dozen, and trams ran on the main streets of many districts in Piltover.
Vocal Avenue had a tram route. The design of these trams was very similar to the buses Durin rode before he transmigrated, but they made a clanging bell sound when they stopped.
"Ding-ding."
The tram slowly stopped next to the station sign. The tram door opened, and Durin boarded the tram.
The crew consisted of a driver and a conductor.
The driver needed to hold the throttle with their left hand, the brake with their right hand, and step on the bell with their foot. There was no need to turn around at the terminal; they just needed to go to the back of the car and drive back, as there was an identical set of equipment at the rear.
The tram fare was only two copper circle coins, and one could ride directly to the terminal—the Tindero's Sphere plaza.
The conductor, who took the two copper circle coins, tore off a ticket for Durin.
The tram was crowded with people of all ages and genders. Some were reading newspapers, some were chatting, some were smoking, and there was a middle-aged stout woman carrying two bundles of vegetables.
When the tram just started, the people on board swayed a bit.
"I heard another front desk clerk died at the Ecliptic Vaults last night?"
Two middle-aged men sitting close to Durin started conversing.
"Yes! The sight was just unbearable; her heart was gone. You tell me, how can these Enforcers not even catch a murderer?!"
"Don't even mention it. This morning's 'Daily Light' said that the council nobles decided to hire a group of bounty hunters to assist the Enforcers in catching this serial killer."
"Sigh! I hope they catch him soon, so we don't have to live in fear every day."
Listening to their conversation, Durin frowned instantly. A serial killer who dug out people's hearts? How could such an extremely dangerous individual appear in Piltover?
And they couldn't even catch him? Were the Enforcers' guns toys?
How could they not catch him?!
Durin was a bit confused. Could it be that the madman from Ionia who treated killing as an art performance had come to Piltover? But the act of digging out hearts didn't seem to align with his pursuit of art!
Wait… could it be a serial killer like Hannibal, who had an artistic pursuit of cannibalism?
Durin pondered, but couldn't come to a conclusion.
A piercing screech of wheels rubbing against the tracks interrupted Durin's thoughts.
"Screech!"
The tram suddenly pulled into the station and stopped. Unbeknownst to him, the tram had reached its destination. As soon as the door opened, people pushed and shoved each other to get off.
Durin also followed the crowd outside. The plaza was bustling with people coming and going. The gilded giant statue not far away made Durin instinctively straighten his back.
That was Piltover University!
In a short while, he arrived.
A "Admissions Office" sign was placed at the school gate. Durin walked directly towards the registrar, who was dressed in a gray mage robe with three blue stripes at the collar, sitting at a long table.
"I'd like to pay tuition and enroll in Piltover University," Durin stated.
The registrar looked up and down at Durin. Upon seeing the mage robe Durin was wearing, his deadpan face showed a slight change in expression. He said, "Congratulations on becoming a Mage Apprentice. To pay tuition, go to office 402 on the 4th floor of the Administration Building and find Ailis."
"Thank you," Durin said with a slight smile.
After walking through the main gate, Durin headed straight for the tuition payment office on the 4th floor of Piltover University's Administration Building.
After passing through the crowd of people being checked for apprentice qualifications on the first floor, he walked down a corridor and entered the elevator.
When the elevator doors opened again, a red-carpeted corridor came into view.
Office 402 was at the end of the corridor, a large door painted red. Although the door was ajar, many people were neatly lined up waiting. Looking around, there were probably about twenty people.
It seemed like a long wait was ahead.
Time ticked by. He watched as one person after another came out of Office 402, but each of them had stayed inside for a long time.
It wasn't until the clock on the corridor wall had completed two full rotations that it was Durin's turn.
He took a deep breath, raised his hand to knock on the door, and then pushed it open.
This was a private office. Behind a desk sat a young woman with braided hair, dark skin, and square-framed glasses. She wore a white shirt and seemed to be writing some report.
Without looking up, she asked, "What is it?"
"Hello, are you Ailis? I'm here to enroll in Piltover University and would like to pay the tuition in advance to get my admission letter," Durin replied honestly.
