Finally, it was morning. I stepped into the dining area first, my heels clicking softly against the floor, my face was already calm even though my thoughts were not. Salvatore's mother was already seated, composed as always, and Gianna was beside her, scrolling lightly through her phone like the world was normal.
A maid moved quickly, placing breakfast on the table, and I took my seat like I belonged there more than anyone else.
"Where is my son?" Salvatore's mother asked one of the guards.
"Madam," he said carefully, addressing Salvatore's mother. "The boss left the house around midnight. He went out for business."
Her expression barely changed, and Gianna looked up though, slightly surprised.
"Midnight?" she repeated. "He did not even rest?"
The guard nodded once and stepped back out, and there was silence again. Then Elsie walked in.
