Chapter 101 - Sadly Not Underdog

POV Rio

'Sigh. Might as well get this over with.'

"What can I do for you, Ms Frost?" I say with a polite smile.

"Mr Pines, I have heard many things about you," Emma Frost says with a smile that makes her seem innocent, but I know this was going to happen eventually.

"Ms. Frost, I am trying to spend my time in peace, so may I ask why you have decided to seek me out during my time off?" I ask simply.

"Well... I would hate to interrupt your time with family. I am hosting a party and wished to invite you," Emma says with a flirtatious smile.

I admit I was expecting something else and was now getting a bit worried, as Emma was now clearly hitting on me. I wasn't worried for myself but for her.

"Yes, well, please send the invite to my estate, and I shall respond if it works with my schedule," I answer calmly but subtly take a peek at Lucy, who was holding my arm.

Emma seemed to know exactly what she was doing as she didn't so much as flinch when Lucy stared her dead in the eyes. Lucy hugged my arm more provocatively, and I was certain that this could devolve into a fight if I wasn't careful.

It seemed Emma wasn't one to back down, as she reached forward towards my shoulder as if to touch me, but she instead tripped on air, and I was unable to move forward to catch her as Lucy held me tight. But the expected fall didn't happen as Emma was able to recover flawlessly. I dare say she did almost as well as Lara did when she tripped. Of course, it's a pure coincidence that all women seem to trip around me, especially Lara. And it definitely has nothing to do with Lucy, who was wearing a decently acted innocent smile. Lucy was obviously completely unrelated to this pattern of events, even if women only trip when she is around me.

"Pardon me, I saw something on your shoulder, but it seems I misstepped," Emma says with a smile, but I have a feeling she knew exactly what happened.

I had to do my best to avoid reacting to the stare-down both Emma and Lucy were doing. I dare say that if they were Kryptonians, they would be shooting lasers out of their eyes. I would interrupt, but the Force was telling me that was a very poor idea, and I trusted that feeling. Though ignoring it was becoming harder as Lucy was starting to squeeze me and her vectors were wandering protectively, or rather provocatively.

"Look up in the sky!" yells a random passerby.

"It's a bird!" says one person.

"No, it's a plane!" Yells another.

'Wait, what?'

At this point, even I was interested.

"It's a frog!" says another man, and everyone looks at him with confusion.

I was about to speak up when something hit me in the face.

Splat.

A slimy green creature hits me in the face.

"Ribbit," says the frog.

Once the first frog falls, a second and third swiftly follow until everyone is running away in panic as it starts to rain frogs.

Lucy, Emma, and I all find shelter in a nearby building, and I am completely confused as to what in the world was happening. Those thoughts get disrupted by a new sensation on my arm.

"Oh no! Are you alright, Rio!" Emma says worriedly while hugging my arm to her very well-endowed chest.

I don't hesitate and remove my arm.

"I appreciate the worry, but do not touch me without asking first," I say firmly.

I won't say that I don't like physical contact at all, but it seems a part of me, perhaps my elven side, doesn't like contact with those I don't know closely.

"Oh, uh, sorry about that, it won't happen again," Emma suprisingly back downs right away, and she seems sincere, which improves my opinion of her.

Even Lucy seems to find her apology good enough, as she doesn't retaliate. Though she does gloat a bit with a smug smile, I lightly rap her on the head to make her behave.

"Tehee!~" Lucy says while sticking out her tongue.

I roll my eyes and refocus on the frog rain outside and notice something interesting. The frogs were asexual, which meant they couldn't breed. That and I found the source of the odd weather.

"Behold the Frogpocalypse!" screams a man in a frog suit.

'Yeah, that makes sense.'

It was Marvel, so I just ignored the rest of the situation and let Spider-Man and Spider-Woman deal with the wack job wearing the Frog Suit.

This wasn't the first weirdo that has shown up in recent times. There was this world version of the Condiment King, who used Mustard, Ketchup, and other condiments to commit crime. Mind you, his "crimes" were really low-level stuff like trespassing and staining people's clothes. Then there was the truly evil Penny Pincher; he commited Penny related crimes, but his soul was oddly really dark. My guess was that since the Penny Plunderer from DC was sent to Hell, every version of the character is bound for that same place. Don't even get me started on Stripperella. The number of times she has been arrested for public nudity is ridiculous.

POV Shift Emma Frost

When I first approached Rio Pines, it was due to his strange mind. I couldn't hear his thoughts at all. Even with all my control, I would still hear someone's thoughts if they were thinking them out loud enough. But Rio was different, which caught my eye. The next thing that caught my eye was the mind with him. That woman was... Strange. Her mind felt dark, very dark. The kind of mind I expect to see in an asylum. So I was a bit worried she was a danger, but the more I observed, the less certain I was she was deranged at all.

I admit that I got carried away when I noticed how protective of Rio she was. She acted as if I was trying to steal him away. If Rio was single, then I would pursue him, but I'm not a homewrecker, so I really just wanted to mess with her. But it seems I might have gone too far given how Rio reacted when I put his arm between my breasts. I just hope he doesn't hold a grudge.

Another reason I was even talking with them was simple. I was bored. Ever since selling Frost Pharmaceuticals to Wayne Enterprises, I have had nothing to do. I was rich, sure, but I had nothing to do with that money except the usual luxuries I am used to. But those have long since become too common and thus uninteresting to me. So I started doing something I never thought I would do. I started playing video games. And some of my favorite games have been made by the man I met today.

"Mr Pines, I do apologize, but I must get going," I say as I have a plan.

"Rio is just fine," Rio says calmly.

"Then, Rio, please call me Emma, and I hope both of you have a wonderful day," I say as I start to leave.

"You as well," Rio responds.

Once I leave, I find a place out of sight and turn into my diamond form. My plan was simple: help out the kiddos and show that I am a team player. I had been trying to join the Guardians of the Globe for a while, but so far I haven't gotten their attention. This would be much easier if I could just apply like this was a job, but oh well.

POV Rio

Once Emma left, she appeared again not long afterwards, but this time in her Diamond Form to keep her identity secret. The man in a Frog Suit didn't last long after that before being knocked out and arrested; oddly enough, when he was knocked out, the frogs all vanished.

"So, want to continue our walk?" I ask.

"No," Lucy says, and from the look in her eyes, I could tell what she planned.

"Sigh. Fine," I relent, and we head home to have some fun.

Timeskip

"Fourfold Fold Slash of Light!" I chant, and Selene is unable to dodge the attack as her arm is cleaved off.

Selene backs off and solidifies her blood into needles before they are shot at me.

"Greater Evasion!" I chant, and my body becomes unnaturally flexible, allowing me to dodge the projectiles.

Selene had used the time to reattach her arm and came back at me with a sword.

"Ability Boost, Greater Ability Boost, Limit Breaker, Physical Boost, Greater Physical Boost, Body Strengthening, Greater Body Strengthening," I chant in rapid succession.

I hold my sword and focus everything on this attack.

"Six-fold slash of light!" I chant and release the technique.

Six red slashes of light are released as I swing my sword at speeds far beyond what a normal person should be able to handle.

My attack cleaves right through the sword and cuts Selene into six different pieces. The cost of my attack, however, was that my arms had been completely shattered and the enchanted steel sword I used had also fallen to pieces from the strain.

Simulation Terminated.

The Selene I had just killed disappeared, and I sat down in exhaustion as my arms started to heal.

"Damn, remind me to never anger you," Lara jokes as she enters the simulation room.

I didn't respond as I got a notification I had been hoping to hear.

Lara hands me a towel with a smile, and I see Selene entering the simulation room as well.

"How goes your training?" I ask.

"Focus Battle Aura," Selene chants, and her nails glow red for a moment.

"Congratulations on learning your first Martial Art," I say with a genuine smile.

"Thank you for the training," Selene says with a humble bow.

"Sure, you don't want to learn?" I ask Lara.

"No thanks, I got my fill of magic education; it's just not my thing," Lara says calmly.

I had trained her a bit in magic, but her talent was only decent, and she didn't care to learn it much more than she needed. I didn't push her and let it be. All my lessons were voluntary anyway.

"Well, that calls it for today, I got to wait for my arms to heal," I say as my arms had already turned a gnarly purple from all the bruises.

I get up and stop and think for a second.

"Uh, don't tell Lucy where I am for a bit," I say as I realize Lucy wouldn't be very happy to see what I did to my arms.

"Too late," Selene says and starts to sneak away.

"Rio~~" Lucy says sweetly.

I slowly turn towards the doorway and see glowing red eyes that look disgustingly sweet but hide a promise I dare not speak aloud.

"Mercy?" I ask.

"There is no mercy~" Lucy responds in that same dangerous tone.

Gulp

I swallow nervously and start backing away.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you. I have... Other plans for you, huhuhu," Lucy says with a laugh that I don't like.

"Run away! Run away!" I shout as several magic clones are created as distractions.
