Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Patch 1.0: Ascending the Divine Logic

The air in the Restricted Zone began to hum with an unnatural frequency. Caelum Thorne sat in the center of the room, his eyes closed, but his mind was traveling through millions of lines of glowing binary code.

[NOTICE: BODY RECOGNITION... SUBJECT: CAELUM THORNE]

[RANK: F (TRASH)]

[SYSTEM LOGIC: SUBJECT IS BEYOND REPAIR]

"Beyond repair?" Caelum whispered, a cold smirk playing on his lips. "That's because you're looking at the exterior. Let's see what happens when I edit the source file."

In this world, people spent years cultivating mana, absorbing energy from the atmosphere to slowly strengthen their bodies. It was a slow, inefficient process. But Caelum saw the truth: the body was just a container for data. If he could change the 'Capacity' variable, the mana would follow.

[ACTION: INITIATE 'SELF-PATCHING' PROTOCOL] [TARGET: DNA_SEQUENCE_001]

Suddenly, Caelum's veins began to glow with a sharp, neon-blue light. It felt like liquid fire was being poured into his bloodstream. His muscles tore and reformed in milliseconds. The pain was excruciating, but he didn't scream. He was busy rewriting the very foundation of his existence.

[WARNING: SYSTEM OVERSEER DETECTED ILLEGAL MODIFICATION!]

[ATTEMPTING TO RESET SUBJECT...]

"Denied," Caelum grunted, his fingers flying through the air, typing commands into the void. [COMMAND: ENCRYPT_USER_DATA]. [COMMAND: MASK_IDENTITY_AS_ERROR].

The Overseer's probe hit an invisible wall and bounced back. To the System, Caelum Thorne no longer looked like an F-Rank human; he looked like a corrupted file that shouldn't be touched.

[SUCCESS: PATCH 1.0 INSTALLED] [NEW STATUS: UNRANKED (BEYOND SYSTEM LOGIC)] [MANA CAPACITY: INFINITE (RESTRICTED BY PHYSICAL CONTAINER)]

As the glow faded, Caelum stood up. He felt lighter, faster, and deadlier. His senses were so sharp he could hear the heartbeat of the guards standing three floors below.

A knock sounded at the door. It wasn't the soft knock of a student. It was the heavy, rhythmic thud of an Academy Enforcer.

"Caelum Thorne! Open the door by order of the High Council!" a voice boomed from the hallway.

Caelum looked at the door. Through the wood, he could see the man's stats: [LEVEL 45 WARRIOR | STATUS: AGGRESSIVE].

"Kira," Caelum called out softly.

The shadow in the corner shifted, and the assassin appeared, her eyes wide with shock as she sensed the terrifying aura radiating from Caelum. "Master? Your energy... it's different. It's not mana anymore. It's... something else."

"It's the future, Kira," Caelum said, walking toward the door. "Open it. It's time we show the Council that their locks no longer work on me."

Kira bowed and reached for the handle. As the door swung open, the hallway was filled with a dozen armored mages, their staves glowing with hostile energy. But the moment they saw Caelum's eyes—eyes that held the depth of a thousand broken stars—they froze.

The System roared in their minds: [ERROR: TARGET NOT FOUND. TARGET IS A GHOST.]

"You were looking for Caelum Thorne?" Caelum asked, his voice echoing with a double-tone, as if two people were speaking at once. "He's gone. You can call me the Architect now."
