CHAPTER 3 — The Contract Is Signed

‎The next morning, sunlight spilled across the Vale estate, golden and sharp, glinting off polished marble floors. Xyra Vale stood in front of a long oak table, her reflection staring back from the glossy surface, one eyebrow raised.

‎Across from her sat Rafael Hale, suit perfectly tailored, tie flawless, posture as rigid as ever. The contract itself lay between them, a stack of thick paper that somehow radiated authority—and boredom, at least to Xyra.

‎"You realize you're about to marry me under the terms of this contract," Rafael said, voice calm but firm.

‎Xyra tapped her finger on the corner of the first page, smirking. "I do realize. I also realize I haven't read most of it."

‎"You signed it without reading?" he asked, calm but with a slight edge that only made her grin wider.

‎"I read the important parts," Xyra said lightly.

‎"And those are?"

‎"The parts where I benefit."

‎Rafael studied her for a long, deliberate moment, eyes narrowing. "You missed three clauses."

‎Xyra shrugged elegantly. "I didn't miss them."

‎"You ignored them?"

‎"I rejected them emotionally," she replied, voice serene.

‎Rafael exhaled, a thin line of impatience crossing his perfectly composed face. "That is not how contracts work."

‎Xyra leaned back in her chair, hands behind her head, completely at ease. "It is now."

‎Mira Solen had insisted on following Xyra in for moral support, sitting quietly to the side. Her face shifted between horror and amusement. "She actually said that?" Mira whispered under her breath.

‎Xyra glanced at her. "What? Emotional rejection is valid in most high-level negotiations."

‎Mira blinked. "Negotiations don't usually include sarcasm as a clause!"

‎Xyra smiled. "Then it should."

‎Rafael leaned forward, sliding the contract toward her. "Sign here. And here. These are standard obligations."

‎Xyra examined the paper as though it were a delicate puzzle rather than a legal document. "Hmm… obligations…" She tapped her lip thoughtfully. "Some seem inconvenient. But… inconvenient can be fun."

‎Rafael's jaw tightened imperceptibly. "This is not a game."

‎"Everything is a game if you know the rules," she replied, eyes glinting with mischief.

‎A sharp knock on the door interrupted their standoff. A butler entered with coffee, placing two steaming cups on the table. Xyra picked hers up with elegance, swirling it as if she were concocting a potion rather than drinking a morning beverage.

‎Rafael ignored the interruption, though his eyes never left her. "Do you understand the consequences of this agreement?"

‎Xyra sipped her coffee calmly. "Consequences are relative. Some people see disasters; I see opportunities."

‎Rafael pinched the bridge of his nose, the faintest sigh escaping. "You are infuriating."

‎Xyra tilted her head, perfectly innocent. "Thank you. That is exactly the reaction I hoped for."

‎By mid-morning, the contract was signed, stamped, and notarized. Xyra Vale had officially entered her new life—married, legally, to a man who could not be provoked easily… except, of course, by her.

‎As they walked through the grand hall together, Xyra nudged Rafael lightly. "So, do we shake hands for ceremony, or do we start plotting our next chaotic maneuver?"

‎Rafael's gray eyes locked on hers, calculating, precise, and… faintly amused. "One step at a time."

‎Xyra grinned. "Boring. Let's skip to step five."

‎Outside, the world awaited—gossiping socialites, nosy family members, and the faint whisper of enemies watching, already predicting the chaos this "married couple" would bring.

‎And Xyra? She couldn't help but smile. Chaos, after all, was her specialty.
