Chapter 65 - Chapter 65: The Unbreakable Bond

Chapter 65: The Unbreakable Bond

In the silent, cavernous space of the new guild hall, a single being floated in the darkness. Mew, suspended in a meditative trance, was observing the flow of latent magic.

Then, a new frequency tore through the calm. It was a profound and terrible silence, the psychic equivalent of a star collapsing. Mew recognized the signature instantly: Erza. It felt her conscious, painful attempt to sever her own connection to their shared bond.

Her iron will was suppressing her grief with such immense force that her own psychic control was shattering. In her turmoil, she was unknowingly broadcasting her deepest fears. Fragments of her memory—the terrifying silhouette of a half-finished Tower against a stormy sea, the blinding flash of an orbital blast she knew was called Etherion, the face of Jellal twisting into Siegrain's—were leaking from her mind like a psychic beacon of pure distress.

Mew intercepted this chaotic, desperate broadcast. It wasn't just feeling her emotions anymore; it was seeing the source of her pain. Its placid observation turned to immediate, empathetic alarm. It would not let this happen. It would not allow her to erase herself from their family.

In a frantic burst of psychic energy, Mew captured these raw, leaked fragments—the crushing weight of her despair, the chilling image of the Tower, the terror of Etherion, the unbearable loneliness of her march—and thrust them directly into the hearts of her closest friends.

Simultaneously, it acted.

In the guild hall, Natsu had Gajeel in a headlock. "Say it! Say my fire is way more awesome than your stupid iron snacks!" "Bite me, Salamander!" Gajeel roared, his skin beginning to shimmer. "At least I don't get sick on a—" Natsu suddenly went rigid. His playful grin vanished, replaced by a look of profound shock and pain as the psychic packet hit him. He saw a dark tower and felt a coldness that had nothing to do with Gray. He felt Erza's sorrow as if it were his own. Before Gajeel could ask what was wrong, a blinding flash of light engulfed them both.

In his apartment, Gray sighed, trying to pry Juvia's arms from his waist. "Juvia, for the last time, I'm just going for a walk. Alone." "A romantic moonlight stroll for two!" Juvia swooned, her body turning to water. "Juvia will not let you face the lonely night by yourself, Gray-sama!" Gray froze mid-struggle. He saw the face of a man who looked like Jellal but wasn't, and felt the ghost of a tear on his own cheek. He felt Erza's decision to face death alone. A blinding flash of light engulfed them both.

In her apartment, Lucy stared at the note she'd found on Erza's empty bed. Happy sat on her shoulder, his ears drooping. "She's really gone, isn't she?" he whispered sadly. Just then, the psychic jolt from Mew struck Lucy. Her sadness instantly morphed into raw terror as the image of a satellite weapon firing from the heavens flashed in her mind. The words on the page became a suicide note. A blinding flash of light engulfed them both.

Miles outside of Magnolia, a brilliant, impossible light erupted directly in Erza's path.

She threw up an arm to shield her eyes, stumbling back. When the light faded, a chaotic pile of her guildmates lay on the road.

"I was talking to you, Salamander!" Gajeel roared, before blinking at the pine trees. "Where the hell are we?"

"Oh! A romantic moonlight trip with Gray-sama!" Juvia squealed.

But Natsu, Lucy, and Gray were already scrambling to their feet, their faces etched with a shared horror. They knew. They felt it.

Natsu was trembling, not from cold, but from a rage born of shared pain. He looked at Erza, at the real, physical manifestation of the despair he had just been forced to see. "You idiot!" he yelled, his voice cracking with emotion. "You really think we'd let you go alone?! After everything?!"

Lucy was already sobbing, the psychic echo of Erza's loneliness still ringing in her soul. "We're your family, Erza! You don't get to decide to leave us! You don't get to make that choice for us!"

Gray said nothing, but he stood beside Natsu, his expression as hard and unyielding as his ice. He had seen the trap she was walking into, and his entire being rejected it. He simply shook his head, his message clear. We're not letting you do this.

It was too much. The sight of them—their faces reflecting the very pain she had tried to hide—shattered the last of her knightly composure.

A choked sob escaped her lips. Her iron will crumbled under the weight of their shared love. She fell to her knees in the dirt.

"You don't understand," she wept, finally letting the full truth spill out. "Siegrain... he's Jellal. He's playing the whole world... It's a trap... a trap for everyone."

She confessed everything. They didn't recoil. They didn't run. They simply drew closer, forming a circle around their broken friend on the dark, lonely road. The silent vow was absolute. Her fight was their fight. Her past was their present. And she would never, ever have to be alone again.
