After the mission of Marcus Valder, four full weeks passed in which no external mission was requested from Kaizen. This long silence was intentional. Severus and Elias were observing him closely, testing his ability to wait, to remain inside the void without filling it with any feeling or memory. Kaizen spent his days in the training room or in his own room, practicing concentration exercises, writing imaginary reports, or sitting without movement for long hours staring at the wall. He no longer felt boredom. Boredom was a concept that had burned away long ago.
On a stormy night, when the rain was striking the walls of the gray building forcefully, the door of his room opened. Severus entered with Elias and three other men Kaizen had never seen before. They were wearing dark gray robes, and their faces were devoid of any expression.
"Stand," Severus said. "Tonight you move to the Tier of Inferno."
Kaizen stood without a word. He walked behind them in the long corridor until they reached a wide hall he had never entered before. The hall was circular, its walls completely black, and its ceiling high, disappearing into the darkness. In the middle, there was a raised stone platform, surrounded by eight iron pillars. On the platform there was a single metal chair, and in front of it a small table with a very thick file.
Severus gestured to the chair. Kaizen sat. The men tied his hands and feet to the chair with smooth but firm metal restraints. The restraints did not hurt, but they prevented almost any movement.
Severus stood in front of him, looking at him with cold eyes.
"The Tier of Inferno is different from everything you have gone through until now. In Spark you observed. In Flame you burned small targets. But in Inferno, you will burn entire paths. You will move conflicts, you will bring down small systems, you will change the course of events between the baronies. You will be the fire that is not seen, and whose source is not known."
Severus opened the file. The first image was of Duchess Isolde Raven herself, ruler of the Barony of Silk.
"This is your first major mission in the Tier of Inferno. We will begin by weakening Duchess Isolde from the inside. Your task is to plant seeds of doubt and betrayal within her close circle, then burn one of her main pillars. The goal is not to kill her now, but to make her doubt everyone around her. We will use you as a completely hidden tool. You will enter the grand palace of the duchess as a wealthy silk trader and a new financial advisor, under the name 'Seth Forn.' You will gain her trust gradually, then begin planting doubts between her and her closest advisors."
Severus paused for a moment, then continued In a deeper voice:
"The mission will last for three full months. During it, you will live inside the palace, you will participate in her meetings, you will listen, you will write, you will plan. In the end, you will make one of her closest advisors appear to be a traitor, and you will push the duchess into making wrong decisions that lead to major losses for her barony. Every step must be calculated. Every word that leaves your mouth must be a weapon. And at every moment, you must remember: you are not a person. You are Inferno. Inferno does not feel. Inferno only burns."
Kaizen looked at the image of the duchess for a long time. Her face was strong, intelligent, cold. He felt nothing toward her. No hatred, no admiration, no fear. She was just a large target. A bigger piece In the machine.
"When do I begin?" he asked in his calm voice, devoid of any tone.
"After three days. During them you will undergo intensive training in accent, court etiquette, verbal deception, and methods of planting doubt without being discovered. After that, you will go alone. You will be connected to us only through encrypted messages."
In the next three days, Kaizen underwent harsh training. He learned the refined accent of the nobles of the Barony of Silk, learned how to walk, how to smile in a way that appears genuine while being completely empty, how to direct conversation to plant doubt without appearing intentional. He learned how to make others doubt each other with a single word.
On the fourth day, Kaizen left the gray building heading toward the palace of Duchess Isolde. He was wearing elegant clothes of a wealthy silk trader, carrying complete forged documents, and possessing a carefully constructed life story. He arrived at the palace after four days of travel.
The duchess's palace was enormous and luxurious, surrounded by wide gardens and guard towers. He presented himself as "Seth Forn," a successful silk trader from the north, carrying major trade offers and information about new trade routes. After careful inspection, he was allowed to enter and was received by the duchess herself in the throne hall.
Isolde was a woman in her early fifties, strong-willed, highly intelligent, and her eyes looked at every person as if they were a chess piece. Kaizen spoke to her calmly and intelligently, offered her profitable deals, and showed extensive knowledge of politics and economics. The duchess was impressed. At the end of the meeting, she ordered him to remain in the palace as a temporary trade advisor.
Kaizen began his work inside the palace. He participated in meetings, listened, observed. He watched the relationships between the duchess and her advisors, uncovered jealousy and hidden ambitions, recorded weaknesses in every person. At the same time, he built superficial relationships with everyone, smiled an empty smile that appeared genuine, and planted seeds of doubt with simple words:
"I heard that some advisors communicate secretly with the Barony of Blood… but of course, I am sure this Is just a rumor."
A single word was enough for suspicion to begin to grow.
After one full month, results began to appear. The duchess became more suspicious of her advisors. She began to meet with them less and demand more detailed reports. Kaizen continued planting more seeds, gathering information, and sending encrypted reports to Severus every week.
In the second month, Kaizen selected an internal target: a senior financial advisor named Grayson, one of the closest to the duchess. He began building a case against him slowly. He planted forged documents in his office, suggested to the duchess that Grayson was stealing her money, and caused some servants to testify against him indirectly.
At the end of the second month, the duchess accused Grayson of betrayal. He was arrested and subjected to harsh interrogation. He confessed under torture to crimes he had not committed and was executed in the public square.
This blow was strong. The duchess became more isolated, more fearful, and less trusting of those around her. She began making impulsive decisions that weakened her barony's economy.
In the third month, Kaizen completed the mission. He planted false information that led to major financial losses for the duchess and caused her to lose the trust of important merchants. In the end, he left the palace quietly, leaving behind a palace filled with suspicion, fear, and slow collapse.
When he returned to the gray building, he submitted a detailed report exceeding one hundred pages. Severus read the report in long silence, then raised his eyes to Kaizen.
"You are no longer a Spark, and you are no longer Flame. You are now Inferno. You have weakened the Barony of Silk from within in a way that cannot be seen. This is the level of Inferno. Congratulations."
Severus remained silent for a long moment, then added In a calm voice:
"But remember, Kaizen… or what remains of Kaizen. The more you rise, the more you will lose. Very soon, you will enter the Tier of complete dissolution, where 'I' disappears entirely. Are you ready for that?"
Kaizen looked at him with completely empty eyes, cold like ash after the last flame dies.
"I am ready."
Severus stood and placed his hand on Kaizen's shoulder.
"Then welcome to the Tier of Inferno. From now on, you are not a person. You are Inferno waiting to burn what it is ordered to burn."
Kaizen returned to his room. He lay on the bed and closed his eyes.
He no longer thought about the duchess.
He no longer thought about Marcus.
He no longer thought about anything.
He only felt the flame Inside his chest.
A calm, cold, precise flame that burns everything that approaches it.
And he knew the next stage would be harsher.
He knew that "kaizen" was about to disappear completely.
And the ash was waiting for him patiently.
