Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 - Life is short

The thief was about to attack when Silas interrupted her.

"Stop. Don't make a mistake. Do you think I came here unprepared knowing you?" Silas said.

The thief withdrew her mana and shook her head. She lifted up her cloak and fixed up her hairs, revealing her charm. Her crimson eyes showed that she was ready to devour him.

She bit her finger and sighed. "I don't think so. You must be well prepared."

Silas nodded. It was a lie. He didn't expect to meet with a succubus on the first day of adventure.

Either his luck was good or it was horrible. Nevertheless, he won't let this opportunity escape.

His mind was working overtime right now.

Silas coughed. "Of course, to capture the succubus, I have poured a lot of money into this operation. Lucky me."

"Are you going to kill me?" The succubus asked, crystal tears forming in her crimson eyes.

She looked pitiful. But that was all the work of her charm. Silas didn't let that interfere with his judgment.

"That depends?" Silas said. "Depends on your action and past. Now, do tell me why you targeted these pitiful people? Did they harm you?"

Silas asked, pointing his chin at the two sleeping adventures.

"Nothing like that." The succubus said, hanging her head low.

She bit her bottom lips, trying to force a word in her mouth. She needed to explain. Otherwise, she would be dead.

"I am searching for a spouse." Succubus revealed.

"Huh?" Silas acted surprised. His face twitched as he scanned the succubus. Even with a disguise she put on, Silas can feel the beauty.

A disgustingly beautiful appearance capable of making men and women fall for her. That was the charm of succubus. Now that succubus was saying that she was looking for a spouse.

Silas knew her from the game. She was one of the main character's partners. Unfortunately, she died without making love to the main character.

Maybe, Silas got a bad ending for her. Anyway, he knew her goal from the start. He just wanted to be sure.

"I know. It is weird for a succubus to be a loser at finding a spouse. But here I am. When I was traveling, I encountered these two adventures and thought that I could try my luck with humans. After all, there are a lot of humans. Even if I don't want that, who knows love can be a powerful spell."

"I see." Silas nodded. "So you followed these two. Bewitched them and bewitched others around them so they won't get close to you."

Succubus nodded with enthusiasm.

"Hummm…" Silas lightly tapped the table.

Succubus flinched, thinking that Silias ordered his men to do something horrible to her.

She went and grabbed his hands and pleaded for forgiveness.

"Don't. Don't. I will do anything you say. I can die yet. I need to find love." Her yell vibrated through the bar.

Every noise stopped and every adventure eyed him like he was some kind of animal. Her charm even worked like that.

Under the murderous gazes, Silas remained unchanged. He looked at the succubus who had mistaken him as some sort of super powerful individual.

Even if the image she conjured was a lie, he can use that. After all, he was a con man. He can use lies and truth to get what he wants.

"Okay. Let's have a contract." Silias smiled.

"A contract?" Succubus tilted her head.

"Yep. Yep. I will offer you an opportunity to find your spouse. And you will lend me your strength." Silas said. "Don't worry I won't force you to do vile stuff."

While she was a succubus demon, her morality was quite good. That was probably why she was somewhat a main character in the game.

The succubus nodded. "Okay. As long as you find me a spouse, I can do everything."

"Sure. But to be sure, let's make a contract. I don't expect the conversation to head this way, so I need to prepare a contract. Come find me in the morning. I will be here."

"Okay." Succubus stood up, hiding her head with a cloak. "Don't run away. I seriously need to find a spouse."

A sigh escaped his lips as he watched the succubus leave the bar. He then looked at the two sleeping adventures and stood up. He went to the bartender and threw him a coin.

"See those two, take them back to their place."

"It is not our service but.." The old bartender glanced at the coin and smiled. "I will do it."

Silas asked for cold water and cleared his mind. He then headed upstairs. As soon as he opened the door, he was greeted by Roland.

His breath caught in his throat as if he was choking.

"You surprised me." Silas pushed the knight and took his clothes. "I will answer your question. Wait for me to finish."

With that, he entered the bathroom and took a shower.

He then left the bathroom, water still dripping from his hair. He then wore something casual and sat down on the bed.

"Okay. Now you can ask me?"

"I sense a monster in your talking group." Roland exclaimed. "What was that?"

"Just a strange succubus." Silas waved his hand. "And she will be travelling with us."

"Huh?"

"Yeah. Yeah. I want to find a mage but hey, a succubus is good with magecraft as well." Silas said.

Roland gave a disgusted look and backed away, shielding his body.

Silas smiled and threw a piece of small wood in his direction for being rude. "It is not like that, you perverts. Anyway, don't judge her for her race. Judge her by person. Aren't you a knight?"

Roland caught the small piece of wood and nodded. "I will. But if she harms you or any other innocent person, I will cut her down."

"Good luck. Wait, don't you see me as an innocent person."

"I am still looking." Roland smiled.

Silas turned off the light and went to sleep. Before sleep took over him, his mind was dancing across countless thoughts.

At first, he was supposed to recruit a mage from the bartender. Although she was weak, her potential was immense. And this inn was not simple.

Silas suspected that this inn was a part of the underworld. Well, it doesn't matter anymore. His plan has changed a lot from the start.

And he had to act accordingly.

At drawn, Silas blearily opened his eyes on top of his bed.

His face was hardened and stiff, with traces of sweat and tears still lingering on his cheeks.

He had a nightmare.

He quickly wiped his face and went to the bathroom. It was the first nightmare he had in a while.

He looked at himself in the mirror and reminded himself.

"Don't take unnecessary risks."

After that small episode, Silas went to the bar to have breakfast.

Roland left him a note saying that he left early to train those four knights. He was alone. So much for a personal guard. He was useless.

Silas ordered breakfast from the female bartender from before. This time she wore a different hairstyle. Silas didn't know the style name but it suited her.

It heightened her cuteness.

"Any recommendations?" He asked, checking their menus.

"Salad. Our salad is pretty good." The young bartender said, timidly.

"Okay, I will take one. By the way, do you want to come with us? To the adventure." Silas suddenly invited her.

He missed the perfect chance last night so he just decided to act blunt. But perhaps, he was a bit too direct as she dropped the cup she was cleaning.

The sound of glass shattering echoed in the bar.

Behind the kitchen the old man, Xilo, checked outside and saw the scene.

"What are you talking about?" The young bartender said, picking up the glasses.

"I am just recruiting. Anyway, that is your choice. If you want to come with me, I will teach you everything I know about magecraft. I can even show you a way to reach the fifth circle." Silas smiled.

"Sounds good right? I wanted to give you a few more days to decide but we don't have time. We will be leaving in the morning." Silas said.

"You don't even know my name. How can you recruit to your party without even knowing that?" The young bartender said.

Silas nodded, agreeing with her.

Xilo arrived with a broom to clean up the mess. He overheard the conversation and smiled inwardly. The heir of Viremont is indeed bold.

"That is probably because I know the nature of this place." Silas said.

Xilo frowned, emitting the heavy intent from his body. Silas smiled.

"You guys are from the underworld right?" Silas asked.

"How did you know?" The young bartender exclaimed. Then, she immediately covered up her mouth.

Xilo sighed.

Silas chuckled at that. "Is she still in training?"

Xilo nodded. "Yes, Young master."

"It seems like you know about me."

Xilo shook his head. "No. I won't say that. Our information about you was wrong this time. The information says that you are a rash and prideful individual. But…"

Xilo's eyes lingered on Silas and completed his sentences.

"You are strange, Sir Silas."

"I will take that as a compliment. Anyway, my offer still stands, I want an answer in the evening." Silas said. "You will reach the Fifth circle and beyond. And your underworld organization will have the backing of Viremont. Think about it."

"Luna, you rest for today and think about Sir Silas's offer." Xilo looked at the young bartender and said. "I will take his order."

"Yes." Luna went back to the kitchen and disappeared from his view.

Soon, a flesh salad appeared in front of him. Just as he was about to take a bite, a voice came beside him.

"My my. You have the scent of another woman."

Silas turned beside and saw the succubus. Now, she was completely different from last night. You could say that she had transformed in a snap.

She wore a black dress showing off her cleavage. And her jewelry was mostly red. She side eyed him and extended her hand.

"I guess I was a bit frustrated last night. I forgot to introduce my name. I am Ice-pick Cube-loa Sinne."

Silas smiled at the name. He remembered thinking about the first time he heard this name. Maybe that was why he remembered her.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Ice-pick. I am Silas Viremont."

"You are the first to call me by that name."

"I see." Silas smiled. "I hope I am not the last."
