In a time of war, everyone knows there's a lot of uncertainties but little did lyra know, hers was going to take a turn for the worse! And it all started on the day of her wedding or so she thought?!
But on this day, she is filled with fear and hope and dreams, because she knows everyone knows of her disability, her strange eyes and she feared even if Kael don't see any of that, what about the Elders, the pack, the clan. Cause the Alpha must always marry a strong Beta, not one with a curse.
Now Kael was everything she ever wanted, they've been friends since childhood, long before he became the Alpha everyone love and feared. Through the conflicts, the separations, countless fights and arguments, fear and hope that one might not return from his/her mission.
Kael was a strong, fit Alpha, not just for the role but as a man, he wasn't one to send others on missions without leading them himself, of course he can't do it all himself but he never for once sat on a throne and bark out orders, without actually getting his hands dirty too.
The instance of a B rank reconnaissance mission gone wrong, the unsuspecting young pack led by their veteran leader Flynn were ambushed by 3 different packs with a chemical weapon that disoriented their sense of smell. Flynn through astute observation and coordination made sure the casualties were kept to a minimum of just one person.
And he immediately sent the fastest runner to go get back up. It's not that Flynn was a push over but his dad always told him "never rush in, keep a cool head" since this was a trap and he's the leader, they'll look to separate him from the pack. That's why he had to hold back and protect the team. On his day Flynn can alone fend off a whole pack!
One of the criteria to be the leader in any rank missions, is the strength and ability to be able to at least defend yourself against half of a pack! This goes just to tell you no pack leader was a weakling, it was no joke. But at this moment he wasn't alone and he had inexperienced members with him.
One other reason he couldn't just go claws blazing was because of Rio, the leader of the packs that ambushed them. Even though they were all on no man's land " this is a territory where no one owns and everything goes, no holds bars.
Rio was a cunning bastard and him being involved in this means information was leaked, and given that except for the initial chemical ambush attack and the loss of one life, they were just chased and backed to corner, Flynn knew a cave nearby where he and Kael have rested several times on a mission.
He directed the surviving pack there, even though he would have loved to keep that place a secret but their survival was of much importance.
Flynn: something is wrong, they knew exactly where we were, this was planned, someone leaked our info, we have a rat in our midst.
Chase: (Flynns immediate partner) but we were all attacked and someone died instantly.
Flynn: I'm not saying the traitor is here right now or not. You understand the politics at home.
Tasha: (frightened and inexperienced) please i don't wanna die, who would try to kill us. I can't die on my very first B rank mission.
Flynn: no one is dying anymore. First we try to stay alive, we keep watch and hope that Jolt gets home fast and gets us the help we need.
And since Rio hasn't attacked for hours, i know he has an ulterior motive, we just have to figure that out! And tend to the injured. Remember your training, this is no time to panic. Get yourself together and help yourselves.
Unknowingly to them Rio was already close by listening to everything they were saying.
Rio: yes keep yourself together little ones, you don't know what i might do next. He laughs hysterically. Now I'll make it simple for you, what i want is your leader Flynn. Send him out and you all can walk out here unharmed!
They all gasped and looked at Flynn, expecting a response.
Flynn and the pack still disoriented from the chemical attack, that's why they couldn't notice Rio was close by listening.
But Flynn now knows what this ambush was all about and who set it.
Flynn: why not just use your cowardly chemical methods again and just take me? Oh unless it affects you too or you don't have much anymore?
Anyways Giving myself to you to save my team is nothing, I'd gladly do it. He shouted, but we all know your dirty schemes, no one leaves here alive.
Rio: oh you know me all too well, it's a shame we haven't met on the battlefield, I'd like to test my claws on your pretty face...take them. By now you're all tired and hungry, it's almost 2 days, i give you till morning to make your decision.
Just as he said this, a body came flying from the back of Rio's pack and landed at his feet.
Then a deep terrifying voice, almost as if it pierced right through ones heart, said from the back. Why don't i make that decision for you!
Flynn froze, surprised. He perceived an eerie smell in the wind, the forest carried that smell, he was familiar with the smell. This is terrible, he knew what was coming and immediately shout to all the pack with him. Retreat now! Everyone fall back deep into the cave now!
When the news reached kael after a day's journey, he didn't waste time at all sending help but the astonishing part was that he wanted to lead that team himself. But the general said no!
General kalus: This is a reconnaissance mission, if Flynn a pack leader can't bring back his team safely from a B rank mission, maybe he shouldn't be a leader after all.
Kael: but general they were ambushed by 3 packs and your son is on that mission too. This is no longer a B rank mission and you know it.
Klaus: This is what we do, whoever is not prepared come back from a mission, should be prepared to die in it!
Kael: So you'd do nothing?! He roared.
General klaus: I respect you're our Alpha, but even so, there are rules and protocols that govern how things are run here, so please respect that.
Klaus: There are a lot of perks that comes with being an Alpha, but even more from being a good person.
General Klaus: Even as the Alpha, you dare not defy the order!
Klaus: watch me!
And he walked out.
