Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The Daily Life of Ray and Lina.

The city was nowhere in sight anymore. Ray and Lina were now in a deserted plain, rocky area. There were barely any trees, very far away. Like a desert with a few trees you can see in a distance. Thanks to the dark clouds in the sky, it wasn't too hot. The air was pleasantly cold. The perfect temperature of a breeze you would want in summer.

Ray walked while carrying a bag on his back, two in one hand, and Lina in the other as she looked around with a child's curiosity. A child she was.

"Papa, Papa!" she said while tapping him on his head. "Look! Some monsters are coming towards us from a distance."

She pointed towards a direction where a pack of five wolf-like monsters were heading towards them. Their black fur and eight glowing yellow eyes made them look freakishly scary to anyone but these two as they Ray had killed countless of these and Lina had seen him kill them countless time. Even though they looked three times bigger than Ray, the two of them weren't scared at all.

Ray put down his bags and Lina and prepared to fight.

"Papa, Papa!" she said while tugging at his pants. "What are you gonna use this time?" she asked, her eyes filled with curiosity.

"I don't know." he said as he bent down to her level to give her a pat on the head. "What do you want me to use?"

"Then! Then! How about an axe!"

"An axe, huh? Good choice."

He then proceeded to make a big axe and took a stance, ready for battle.

He dashed forward, closing the distance between him and the wolves(approximately a hundred and fifty meters) in a mater of seconds. He jumped into the air and landed a fatal hit with the axe on the leeder of the pack, the biggest one, killing it instantly.

He then jumped down, slashing the front two legs of the other one and chopping them off. He then proceeded to chop off it's head as well.

One of the monsters used a it's tried to bite Ray but Ray managed to dodge easily by ducking and cut open it's throat. Three dead.

The other two got scared and ran away and Ray didn't stop them. Because the less bloodshed she sees, even if monsters, the better.

He had only just turned the axe back into mana and retracted it into his boy when he suddenly Lina crashed into him from behind and hugged him.

"Papa! That was awesome! You're so cool!" she exlaimed, her eyes full of admiration for her papa who can defeat such strong monster easily.

"Is that so?" he said while patting her head. He had been careful to not get covered in any blood in that fight earlier. "Well I'm honored, princess.

"But papa, why did you let the other two run away?"

Well, you see, they attacked us so I attacked them back. They got scared and gave up on attacking us. So why would I attack them back? It's basically bullying."

"Papa is so kind!"

"Kind, huh?" The words seemed other worldly to him as he had killed countless people and kept it a secret from her. So hearing her say that felt weird.

He turned towards the monster corpses and then back towards her. "Hey. You want to eat some grilled meat?"

"Really, really, really?!" she asked while drooling at the thought of grilled meat. "I wanna, I wanna!"

"Okay then. You got sit with the bags while I process the meat and make some food."

Lina ran towards the bags, really happy while sparkling with excitement.

As he prepared to process the monsters, he noticed something in a distance. After focusing on it a little, he realized it was a group of bounty hunters.

Bounty hunters are exactly what one would expect. They hunt those with a bounty on their head set by the organization. The organization sets bounties on anyone they don't like. The bounty on Ray's head was something that would change anyone's life. Even their whole upcoming generations.

"What a pain in the ass." he said as he proceeded to make an explosive. "This should do it. This grenade should be strong enough to kill them all."

He took a stance and threw the grenade really hard into the air. It traveled the ditance of about two miles and blew up the whole gang instanly before they even realized it.

"All right. That should be good."

"Papa!" Lina shouted from a distance as she ate some snacks. "I heard a bang just now. What was that?" she said, her mouth filled with candies.

"This rascal. Eating snacks, huh?" Ray whispered to himself. "It's nothing! I just saw a few monsters in a distance and killed them with an explosive. That's all."

"Okay!" she said before instanly going back to eating snacks again.

An hour later.

Ray had finiched processing the meat and had grilled them on a grill he made using his own mana. Now, the two of them were enjoying the grilled meat together.

"So goood!!!" Lina exclaimed with joy as she devoured the meat. "Papa! It's soooo goood!!!!"

"Really? It' that good?" he asked while eating. "Eat lots, okay? We have a lot ."

While Lina continued to eat, he looked at the sky while smiling.

"Including those twenty bounty hunters who I killed while processing the meat, I've killed five-thousand-three-hundred and thirty two(5332) people now. Evil, broken and innocent. He thought to himself.

And I'll continue to do so. For you two. I'll be sure to change the world.

Why did Ray kill so many people?

Who is this other person?

And will he be able to keep his promise?

A promise that caused him to be in a constant state of guilt, sorrow, and both physical and emotional pain.

What is it that's driving him to to all this?

Next time: Calm Plains.
