Chapter 15 - chapter 16

CHAPTER 16 — LEVERAGE

---

Bram didn't slow down.

Didn't stop.

Didn't look back.

---

The noise of the outpost faded behind him.

Voices.

Arguments.

Regret.

---

None of it mattered.

---

What mattered—

was what came next.

---

Scene 1 — The Shift

"…you cut her off clean."

---

The voice came from above.

---

Veyrix.

---

Perched like he owned the air.

---

Bram didn't stop walking.

---

"She was costing me."

---

A pause.

---

Then—

Kael'thar stepped out from the shadows ahead.

---

"You speak like a merchant."

---

"I am one."

---

"…in a collapsing world?"

---

Bram finally stopped.

Looked at them.

---

"In a collapsing world," he said calmly,

"…merchants become kings."

---

Silence.

---

Then—

Veyrix smiled.

---

"…I like him."

---

---

Scene 2 — The Real Conversation

No guards.

No humans.

No distractions.

---

Just them.

---

"You are different," Kael'thar said.

---

"Obvious."

---

"…you kill above your level."

---

"Not kill," Bram corrected.

"…solve."

---

That caught their attention.

---

"…explain," Veyrix said.

---

Bram reached into his pack.

Pulled something out.

---

A blade.

---

Simple.

Clean.

---

But wrong.

---

"…that weapon," Kael'thar narrowed his eyes,

"…it carries structured energy."

---

"Good," Bram said.

"You can see it."

---

He tossed it.

---

Veyrix caught it mid-air.

---

The moment his fingers closed around the hilt—

his expression changed.

---

"…this isn't crude."

---

"No."

---

"…this is controlled output."

---

Bram nodded.

---

"Calibrated."

Pause.

---

"Built to penetrate Stage 2 defenses."

---

Silence.

---

Real silence this time.

---

"…humans don't make this," Veyrix said.

---

"They didn't," Bram replied.

"…I did."

---

---

Scene 3 — Proof

"Test it," Bram said.

---

Kael'thar didn't hesitate.

---

A nearby corpse—

Ironhide Lurker — Stage 2 (Low)

---

Still intact.

Still armored.

---

He swung once.

---

Clean.

---

The blade cut through the plating like it mattered.

---

Not easily.

---

But effectively.

---

That was the difference.

---

Veyrix exhaled slowly.

---

"…this changes things."

---

"Yes."

---

"…how many do you have?"

---

"One."

---

"…and how many can you make?"

---

Bram smiled slightly.

---

"That depends."

---

---

Scene 4 — The First Real Negotiation

Now—

they were paying attention.

---

"State your terms," Kael'thar said.

---

Bram didn't answer immediately.

---

He stepped forward.

---

"You have something I need."

Pause.

---

"Information."

---

"…about stages," Veyrix said.

---

"Yes."

---

"…you want knowledge?"

---

"I want structure."

---

Silence.

---

Then—

Kael'thar nodded.

---

"…fair."

---

He stepped closer.

---

"Listen carefully."

---

---

Scene 5 — The Truth of Stages

"Your people guess," Kael'thar began.

---

"Ours… classify."

---

Bram listened.

Carefully.

---

"Stage is not just power."

Pause.

---

"It is adaptation."

---

"…go on."

---

"A Stage 2 creature is not simply stronger than Stage 1."

---

"It is built differently."

---

"Denser."

"More stable."

"More resistant to external force."

---

"…which is why bullets fail," Bram said.

---

"Yes."

---

Veyrix leaned in slightly.

---

"Stage 1 dies to damage."

Pause.

---

"Stage 2 survives damage."

---

"…Stage 3?" Bram asked.

---

Kael'thar's eyes sharpened.

---

"Stage 3 ignores damage."

---

Silence.

---

That was new.

---

"…and Stage 4?"

---

"…reshapes the battlefield."

---

Bram processed it instantly.

---

"…so the solution isn't more force."

---

"…correct."

---

"…it's better interaction."

---

Now—

they were impressed.

---

"…you understand fast," Veyrix said.

---

"I don't waste time."

---

---

Scene 6 — Value Recognized

"…your weapon," Kael'thar said,

"…it bypasses resistance."

---

"Yes."

---

"…not fully."

---

"No."

---

"…but enough."

---

"That's the point."

---

Silence.

---

Then—

Kael'thar spoke.

---

"We will trade."

---

Simple.

---

Direct.

---

Clean.

---

"…you provide weapons," he continued.

"…we provide knowledge."

---

"And resources," Bram added.

---

A pause.

---

"…negotiable."

---

"Not really."

---

That—

made Veyrix laugh.

---

"…you're bold."

---

"I'm valuable."

---

---

Scene 7 — The Human Side

Bram's device buzzed.

---

Incoming call.

---

Commander Hale.

---

He answered.

---

"…this better be good," Hale said immediately.

---

"It is."

---

"…we're done negotiating."

---

"No," Bram said calmly.

"…you just lost leverage."

---

Silence.

---

"…what?"

---

"I have a new buyer."

---

A pause.

---

"…who?"

---

Bram glanced at the demons.

---

"…someone who understands value."

---

"…you're bluffing."

---

"Am I?"

---

Another pause.

Longer this time.

---

"…what do you want?" Hale asked.

---

There it was.

---

Control.

---

Bram smiled.

---

"Stage 1 high-grade crystals."

Pause.

---

"Bulk."

---

"…that's expensive."

---

"So am I."

---

Silence.

---

"…and the designs?" Hale asked carefully.

---

Bram's eyes sharpened.

---

"That's a different price."

---

---

Scene 8 — Position Secured

Call ended.

---

Veyrix tilted his head.

---

"…you're playing both sides."

---

"Yes."

---

"…dangerous."

---

"Profitable."

---

Kael'thar studied him.

---

Long.

Hard.

---

"…you're not strong."

---

"No."

---

"…but you will become a problem."

---

Bram nodded.

---

"That's the plan."

---

---

Ending Line

"In a world where strength decides survival—

control decides everything else."

---
