[Ding!!! You are eligible to be connected to the ]

[Ding!!! You will awaken and unlock the latent potential of your soul!!!]

[All those who awaken will be evaluated by and if deemed worthy you will be granted the chance to become a ]

[Cassian Lockheart, do you wish to begin your awakening?]

[Y/N]

This was the first thing Cassian woke up to on his seventeenth birthday. A rather exciting way to wake up. Still, it came as a shock; while he obviously knew it would happen, he never knew the specifics. And now, as he read through the crimson panels displayed in front of him, anticipation began to build within him.

Especially when he realized he too had the chance to become a . From his knowledge, only two people in Earth's history had ever awakened as , and they were known as the strongest to ever live.

"Can I awaken as a chosen one?" Cassian asked himself as he looked around his small bedroom. He was still in bed. He didn't come from some profound bloodline, nor did he have some powerful parents. So, from an outsider's point of view, his chances were pretty low.

"Well, as long as I awaken something good," he thought, trying to be optimistic.

Done thinking, Cassian stood up and walked to the middle of the room. He'd read that when a person awakens, it is agonizing, and he didn't want to fall off his bed while writhing in pain. That would be slightly embarrassing.

"Sigh~ I can do this. Alright, woo!"

Done hyping himself up, Cassian continued.

"Yes. Do it!"

[Beginning awakening: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5–]

"ARGHHHH!"

Instantly, Cassian let out a bloodcurdling scream and he fell to the floor. He curled in on himself, his arms wrapping around his legs; tears clouded his vision as they fell down his face, which was twisted in agony. What he read had downplayed the pain he'd feel. Still, he persevered, opening his eyes with much effort.

His glassy, hazy blue eyes tiredly moved to the crimson panels that were bundled in front of him. With much effort and gritted teeth, he put all his energy into focusing on what was written.

[Ding!!! Awakening Proceeding!!!]

[Ding!!! Determining Talent level: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5–]

[Ding!!! Talent level: E]

Cassian's already rapidly beating heart practically stopped.

"N-no…."

Still, he kept reading.

[Ding!!! No powers have awakened within Cassian Lockheart!!!]

"S-shit."

[Ding!!! An intervention has occurred!!!]

"A-a what!?"

The agony that had plagued him began to calm down. Though his body was still in aftershock, his ability to think properly had returned slightly.

[Ding!!! You have been chosen by the ]

[Ding!!! Due to this unwelcome intervention, Cassian Lockheart has now become untethered from the ]

[All future growth and development will come from the system and his own 'unique' path.]

Cassian now sat up, drenched in his own sweat and tears. He could have sworn he heard bitterness radiating from the panel. He shook his head before looking back at the panels, which had now turned black.

[Ding!!! Does the host wish to begin the bonding process?]

"What… the hell! A system? Like the ones out of novels? And a summoning system at that!" Cassian exclaimed in excitement.

"YES!"

[Ding!!! Beginning Bonding… 1, 2, 3, 4, 5–]

"Hm? It doesn't hurt! Wait, actually it feels kinda nice!" A warm, soothing feeling spread throughout his body, releasing any tension left by the previous torturous situation.

"Ah~ that feels good~" he said as he rolled his shoulders, still sat on the floor, and then finally a voice echoed in his head, making him wince slightly. The voice was cold and lifeless, holding a mechanical tone.

"Ah!" Cassian clutched his head as an abundance of information rushed his mind, making him slightly dizzy. He clenched his teeth as beads of sweat dribbled down his forehead.

"Ah, fuck, why so much pain, damn!" He hated pain—not that he'd actually felt true pain until today, but a stubbed toe was enough to bring a tear to his eye. It went like this for around ten minutes: information after information funneled into his mind in rapid succession until finally, it stopped.

Cassian unclenched his eyes; now they shone with clarity. The information he'd been fed had seamlessly molded with his mind. Now it felt like he'd always known it. A smile appeared on Cassian's mouth once he remembered how crazy his system was.

"So cool. Still, before I do anything…" he sniffed himself. "I need a bath. I stink." With that thought, Cassian stood and walked over to the bathroom. Thankfully, the door was in his bedroom.

...

"Ahhh~ that was refreshing~" Cassian said, stepping out of the room, stretching his arms upwards. He now wore loose black joggers and a plain black T-shirt. His short black hair was slightly damp and his sky-blue eyes shone with excitement. His body was practically vibrating with anticipation.

"Alright, system! Let's do this. First, how many points do I have?" Cassian asked, sitting in a chair.

Points, or by their true name , were the currency of the system, used to buy whatever he needed. They could only be earned through self-imposed quests, which gave Cassian a breath of fresh air. It would mean the system wouldn't impose quests on him like the systems out of novels he'd read.

[SSP –> 0]

[Ding!!! A beginner 5,000 (SSP) has been given!!!]

[0 (SSP) –> 5,000 (SSP)]

"Neat. Hmm, what to do first—"

He thought for a moment; choosing his first steps was important, but first, he needed to see his options.

"Bring up the summoning list," he commanded.

[Sovereign Summoning:]

[Novice class Summon: 1,000 (SSP)]

[Expert class Summon: 2,000 (SSP)]

[Knight class Summon: 3,000 (SSP)]

[Commander class Summon: 4,000 (SSP)]

[Saint class Summon: 5,000 (SSP)]

"Hmmmm~" Cassian hummed, looking at the options. There were more, but they were out of his price range. Despite that, 5,000 (SSP) for a Saint-class summon was extremely good. Sadly, that price would increase with every purchase.

Still, a Saint-class summon could contend with a 5th-tier awakened. And Cassian, as a 1st-tier awakened, would stand no chance. Still, Cassian wasn't going to summon anything straight away.

He had other things to check out.

"System, open the shop!" he said, slouching back.

[Sovereign Summoner Shop:]

[Sovereign Summoning Points —> 5,000]

[Rank Up – 10,000 (SSP)]

[Copy — 500 (SSP)]

[Fuse – 500 (SSP)]

[Items]

[Summon Upgrades]

[Necessities]

As Cassian scanned over the text, information he'd acquired flooded his mind.

[Rank Up] could be used for either him or his summons. For each rank, the price is different. The higher the rank, the more expensive. For him, a tier 1, it would cost 10,000 (SSP), a rather cheap price. This also added to his excitement, for he wouldn't need to spend time cultivating mana—a rather tedious task. Still, if he had to, he would. Thankfully, he didn't.

[Copy] could be used on his summons. Instead of having a section in the shop for him, instead, for 500 (SSP), he could copy a singular thing from his summon. Each time the price would increase. And he could only use it one time on a summon; after that, nothing from the summon could be copied. Because if he could just copy everything, what would be the point of having them? There wouldn't be. And as a summoner, his job wasn't to fight.

[Fuse] allowed him to fuse any of his existing powers and could also be used on his summons. 500 (SSP) was the base price; it would increase the more he wanted to fuse. Yet again, the price would increase the more he used it. He was beginning to believe this was just so he wouldn't spam it. Still, he couldn't deny the thrill in the chase. So, he didn't really mind. And thinking back to his E-rank talent, he didn't believe he was in any place to complain.

[Gift] allowed him to bless each summon with a gift that was totally random. This could be anything—even he didn't know. Yet again, the price depended on the rank of the summon and he couldn't use this on himself. Oh, and this could be used on the same summon once every rank. So, if he used it on a novice-rank summon, he wouldn't be able to use it on them again until they reached Expert rank. Overall, this was a nice little boost… or big boost, he didn't actually know.

[Items] allowed him to buy… well, items. Such as weapons, utilities, formations, and other things. There wasn't much more to add, except the prices varied, obviously, and that only he and his summons could use what was bought. If anything was given or stolen, it would disappear and reappear within his system [Inventory]. Oh yeah, and he has an infinite inventory—you know, the basic system function.

[Summon Upgrades] was obvious; the system would evaluate the summon he wished and then tell him everything that could improve. After that, he'd be offered a variety of options tailored for that specific summon which he could buy. A very, VERY useful function because Cassian was but a clueless monkey in the world of awakeners.

And lastly, we have [Necessities], which yet again was obvious. Cassian could buy anything that was a necessity from this, such as his favorite FOOD! He even checked, and it literally had a near-infinite amount. Foods he'd never eaten. Foods that were in languages he'd never heard of. Hell, there was even food that cost millions of points. CRAZY! You wouldn't understand the type of yearning he had to try them! He drooled just thinking about it!!! But you didn't hear that from me.

"Hmmm~ system, will performing a summoning make a grand disturbance? I'm already on thin ice with the landlord; I don't need to give him a reason to kick me out…" Thinking about the landlord, a vein pulsed on Cassian's forehead. That crazy old man was out to get him! He hadn't even done anything! Believe him!

[The summoning will be seamless and quiet… the summon, however, could make noise. So proceed with caution!!]

"You make a good point… still… sigh~ I guess that means I'll have to register at the awakening association," he said, and as he said it, the system sounded again.

[Self-Quest Initiated!!!]

[Quest – Register as an awakened!!]

[Reward – 1,200 (SSP)]

[Consequence – None]

Cassian grinned, standing up.

"Neat. Ahhh~ what a great awakening day~"
