Chapter 85 - Chapter 85: Megrey

Chapter 85: Megrey

In a research facility outside of City Y.

"Genos, the Snail-Man and the Chameleon Man have been confirmed dead, and our target King is completely unharmed."

A Genos clone with the number 28 marked on his chest emotionlessly reported about the Snail-Man and Chameleon Man.

"As expected."

Genos was slightly disappointed. Though he had expected the Snail-Man and Chameleon Man wouldn't be able to harm King, he still held out hope that their combined efforts, especially the Chameleon Man's stealth, might allow them to obtain a blood sample of King for his genetic research.

Unfortunately, King was, after all, King. Even with the Chameleon Man's extraordinary abilities, he still couldn't inflict the slightest injury on King.

"I must obtain King's genes. Contact our cooperating partner and instruct them to absolutely procure a blood sample from King."

"Understood."

...

Somewhere in the world.

"A blood sample from King? Heh, since we're going to kill King anyway, obtaining a blood sample along the way would be a convenient bonus."

"Understood, sir. I'll immediately notify the Fa Fa Assassin Group."

"Good. I hope the Fa Fa Assassin Group doesn't disappoint our trust."

...

The next day.

A City.

Inside the Hero Association Headquarters' war room.

Jace held a document in his hand and reported solemnly, "Director, Ms. Shibabawa has sent us a prophecy fax."

"What? Ms. Shibabawa's prophecy!?"

Sitch shuddered and hastily said, "Quickly tell me the contents of the prophecy."

Shibabawa was a great prophet who had accurately predicted various impending disasters many times, such as earthquakes and Monster invasions. She was a special hero employed by the Hero Association.

Because Shibabawa's prophecies had never been wrong, and each one always foretold a disaster, it could be said that a prophecy from Shibabawa invariably meant bad news. However, Shibabawa's prophecies allowed the Hero Association to prepare in advance for impending disasters.

Therefore, Sitch both loathed and held in high regard Shibabawa's prophecies.

Jace nodded, handed the document to Sitch, and said with a solemn expression, "Ms. Shibabawa's prophecy states that within this month, B City and D City will be destroyed by Monsters."

"What!?"

Sitch's eyes widened. B City and D City will be destroyed by Monsters? Wouldn't a Monster capable of destroying two cities be a Dragon-level disaster Monster?

He gasped. He thought, extremely terrified. L City and M City had just experienced the rampage of a Dragon-level Monster. Fortunately, Hammond's target was King, and the destruction he caused in L City and M City was merely incidental, not inflicting widespread damage on either city. However, Shibabawa's prophecy this time was that B City and D City would be destroyed. According to the Hero Association's definition of disaster levels, this Monster was indeed a Dragon-level Monster!

However, what made him helpless was that Shibabawa's prophecy did not give the exact time of the disaster's occurrence. This meant that within one month, the disaster could happen today or tomorrow. In short, from now on, the Monster disaster that would destroy B City and D City could occur at any moment.

Sitch's body tensed. Knowing time was tight, he immediately ordered, "Jace, immediately notify the government to evacuate the citizens of B City and D City."

"Understood."

Jace knew the seriousness of the matter. A disaster of this magnitude, capable of destroying two cities, was too alarming. Preparations must be made in advance, otherwise, they would be caught off guard when the disaster struck.

Sitch then instructed Coulson, "Coulson, check the heroes active in B City and D City and have them search for the source of the Monsters..." He paused mid-sentence, remembering what King had told him about the dangers hidden outside D City and Z City. Could the danger King mentioned be related to this major disaster? He pondered for a moment, then ordered, "Focus on searching outside D City, and also have people investigate the situation outside Z City."

"Understood."

Coulson nodded, turned, and went to contact the heroes in B City and D City.

After Sitch gave his orders, he worriedly rubbed his temples and muttered to himself, "I hope we can minimize the losses, otherwise the public will complain about the Hero Association again."

The thought of a flood of public complaints after B City and D City were destroyed by Monsters instantly gave him a headache. This job was truly damn difficult.

...

"Welcome to the beautiful City Y."

Inside the City Y train station, King arrived as agreed. He wore a black peaked cap, his usual white sweatshirt, and a black backpack, with his hands in his pockets, waiting for Child Emperor to pick him up.

"I wonder if Sitch took my words seriously. A huge threat is hidden outside D City and Z City."

King idly recalled yesterday's events. The Winged Dragon had completely destroyed his house, then fled, its whereabouts unknown.

However, the appearance of the House of Evolution and the Winged Dragon reminded him that this world didn't just have one crazy scientist named Hammond. In his memory, a genius madman was hidden outside both D City and Z City. Their scientific research achievements would pose a serious threat to their respective cities in the near future. Therefore, driven by a hero's luck and sense of responsibility, he informed Sitch that dangers were hidden outside D City and Z City, asking Sitch to send heroes to investigate.

However, he didn't know if Sitch had taken his words to heart, as he couldn't explain why he knew of the dangers existing outside D City and Z City.

"Hello, may I ask if you are Mr. King?"

While King was spacing out, a deliberately lowered voice entered his ears. He looked up in confusion, only to see a round-faced, stout middle-aged man, wearing a beige trench coat and a beige woolen cap, approaching him, his gaze filled with probing curiosity.

King asked in confusion, "You are?"

The plump middle-aged man extended his hand and smiled, "Mr. King, it's an honor to finally meet you. I am Megrey, the police chief of City Y, specially entrusted by Child Emperor to pick you up and take you to the 'Elementary Student' research institute."

"Police chief? Megrey?"

King looked at Megrey in surprise. Child Emperor actually had such a deep relationship with the police? One must know that since the establishment of the Hero Association, the Association and the police had been at odds. The Hero Association disliked the police for getting in the way, and the police resented the Hero Association for meddling too much and stealing their thunder. As a result, both sides caused trouble for each other, eventually leading to a strained relationship where they barely interacted. He didn't expect Child Emperor to "go against the current," holding a high position as a Hero Association hero, yet still associating with the police. If Sitch found out, his expression would surely be priceless.

Megrey smiled and said, "Mr. King, are you curious about my relationship with Child Emperor?"

"A little," King shook his head. "However, I generally don't meddle in matters that don't concern me. Your relationship is irrelevant to me. I just came here by invitation to help Child Emperor complete an experiment, and then I will leave. Lead the way."

"Mr. King is truly straightforward. This way, please!"

Megrey led King to an ordinary car, then immediately started the engine and set off.
