Chapter 9 - New Equipment, Finding the Special Zone

Faust shook his head, impressed by the loot. The loot table for Bronze Jackals was far better than Blue Slime, allowing his 100% Drop Rate to shine

He opened his status before taking the Essences to see how much Attributes he managed to absorb.

[Name: Faust Havlicek]

[Level: 3 (50/300)]

[Constitution: 123 > 133]

[Strength: 30 > 35]

[Agility: 40 > 60]

[Spirit: 18 > 25]

[Schema: The Perfect Match, Blood Lord]

[Schema Abilities: Talent Replication, Instance Replication, Attribute Drain, Blood Regeneration]

[Skills: Stealth Lv1, Appraise Lv2, Acid Shot Lv1]

[Combat Power: 211 > 253]

[Origin Coins: 624 > 704]

[System: 100% Drop Rate]

The returns on the Attribute Drain had him glowing with joy. His Combat power was sky-rocketing, and the Bronze Jackals he once thought fast were now slower than him.

He hadn't even used acid in that final fight. He just dealt critical hits and drained their attributes before they died.

He pulled out the Bronze Jackal Essence, which were aptly a bronze color and hard spheres, making them annoying to swallow.

"I need a second mouth for all this," Faust grumbled and started downing the essence.

[You have consumed...]

[Agility: 60 > 80]

His body suddenly turned lighter than the wind. Faust stumbled at the sudden change then smiled. He dashed left and it felt like the world slowed down to help him keep up with how fast he was moving.

He skidded to a stop and nodded slowly. "Now this is good."

Then he pulled out the skill book and the Jackal dagger. The skill book was the same as usual. Leather, with strange inscriptions on its cover, and small like a journal.

[Severe Hit (Bronze): Attacks deal greater blood loss]

It was a simple skill, useful against higher level enemies, but detrimental to his Attribute Drain ability.

He thought about it for a moment, then glanced further at a forest farther across the field. His minimap still had unexplored sections of the [Hunter's Dream], but that forest looked promising.

The enemies would be higher leveled, meaning more exp and better drops. There would be strong Jackals in the fields, but there might be Level 5 or even 6 enemies out there.

His combat power was starting to outpace his level thanks to how quickly he gained attribute points. So he could probably face a level four monster easily.

"Okay i'll do a quick this place for anything useful then if there's nothing I'll go to the forest," he decided.

And for that forest, he would need stronger skills. He poured mana into the skill book and it disappeared.

[You have learned a new skill "Severe Hit Lv1"]

Then he took out his new dagger.

It was a jagged weapon with serrated teeth made to rend flesh. He equipped it with a thought.

[You have Equipped Jackal Dagger (Bronze)]

[Strength: 45 (+5)]

[Agility: 80 (+10)]

[Combat Power: 273 (+15)]

Okay now this is more like the build i would like. Now if i could just get the right clothes for it….

Faust hummed then came up with a simple plan. He would store his basic Naginata in his spatial bag and run across the field using his high Agility to improve the minimap his Appraisal skill gave him and check for anything special.

Stuffing the long Naginata into his spatial bag was a strange experience. He put it in sharp side first in case he needed to pull it out quickly.

He kept waiting for the sharp edge to pierce through the other side of his bag, but it never happened.

"Hahh… if i lost my bag like that i would riot."

And with that he set off into a run. At first he was hesitant. But the more he moved the greater his speed grew. The wind roared in his ears, drowning out Faust's laughter.

Until he was practically flying across the field, moving so fast his legs blurred. Yet he could perceive everything around him clearly.

His speed was absurd. He could cover a hundred meters in three seconds. His minimap expanded, charting Hunter's Dream quickly. He circled the edges first then moved in quickly. There were two other areas at the edge of Hunter's dream.

The first was the forest of high trees called [Mind's forest].

And the second was a sandy stony expanse that spread far called [Nightmare's Edge]. It sounded a lot more menacing than the forest so he chose to stick to the forest till he reached level 10.

He circled the large fields only twice to save time and energy. Jackals chased after him, barking angrily, but were soon left in the dust.

Close to the center of Hunter's Dream he found what he had been looking for.

Six Jackals guarded a small hill, and at the top was a wooden treasure chest.

Bingo.

Faust rushed forward, appraising them as they rose to meet his challenge.

[Bronze Jackal]

[Level: 2]

[Combat Power: 80]

[Details: They are fast and enduring. Their bites can crush metal easily. But they aren't very sensitive.]

These were the stronger Jackals, their combat power was almost twice that of their peers at the same level.

But one of them stood out.

[Bronze Jackal]

[Level: 3]

[Combat Power: 150]

[Details: They are fast and enduring. Their bites can crush metal easily. But they aren't very sensitive.]

This was the leader of the pack. It was slightly larger than the others and growled at him menacingly. But it stuck to the chest.

Its design must have told it to protect the chest.

But that just made things simpler for Faust.

The five Level 2 Jackals charged at him while the leader stayed back. Game design fucking over mobs as usual. Faust sighed.

The first Jackal jumped for his neck, but Faust sidestepped and slashed open its throat in a burst of motion.

He flicked out his left hand and his tether to extended at the same time. The sticky rope plopped between a hound's eyes, blinding it.

Faust dodged another lunge then jumped over a third. His jump carried him high into the air.

The world spun as he rolled mid-air and pulled on his tether.

He commanded it to retract and extend repeatedly, controlling its length precisely. Then he swung the stuck Jackal at its comrades like a flesh hammer.

SNAP!

Two Jackals died on impact, turning into bloody piles of meat.

[You have killed "Bronze Jackal" and gained 5 experience points.]

[You have killed…]

The last Jackal dodged the attack and bounded at Faust when he finally landed.

The Jackal came at an awkward angle behind him, forcing Faust to stretch out a hand and let the beast bite into his forearm.

Its bronze teeth sank deeply into his skin despite his higher Constitution. A flash of pain surged up his arm like lightning, making Faust wince.

But the next second he jammed his dagger into the Jackal's skull ending its life promptly.
