Chapter 9 - Hattori Heiji

Officer Otaki looked at the young man who suddenly appeared, feeling a bit annoyed, but mostly helpless.

"Heiji, didn't I tell you to wait outside? How did you get in? And Kazuha?"

Looking at the dark-skinned youth with a confident smile, Takato was certain that this abrupt newcomer was the "High School Detective" from Kansai, and also an important character in "Detective Conan," Hattori Heiji. He hadn't expected to stumble upon him by chance this time.

Immediately after, a sweet, soft female voice came from behind him.

"Heiji! Why did you run off again without a word...?"

"Idiot! Didn't I tell you to stay outside! Girls shouldn't come to this place!"

Hearing the voice, Hattori Heiji turned his head and loudly called out to the Female student who was running over, then stepped forward to stop her, preventing her from getting closer to the crime scene.

This Female student with dark brown hair, tied in a high ponytail, was naturally Hattori Heiji's childhood friend, Toyama Kazuha.

"What's wrong, Heiji! I came because I was worried about you, why are you so fierce! And calling me an idiot so loudly!"

Toyama Kazuha retorted to Hattori Heiji's behavior, but when she got to the word "idiot" at the end, her voice suddenly became softer.

Meanwhile, Officer Otaki, after listening to Hattori Heiji's words and re-examining the scene, still couldn't understand.

"Heiji, although this scene is very strange, why do you conclude that this is a revenge killing?"

"Because of the victim's cause of death."

Hattori Heiji was about to turn back to explain, but because Toyama Kazuha appeared, his response was half a beat late, causing the sentence to be spoken by someone else.

And that person was Takato. Takato, who suddenly spoke at this moment, naturally became the focus of everyone present.

Looking at the man who had spoken the answer he had in mind, Hattori Heiji couldn't help but feel surprised. Now he didn't want to add to the explanation, but rather wanted to see what kind of deduction this man could make.

Officer Otaki, after hearing this sentence, still found it incomprehensible, so he looked at Takato.

"The victim's cause of death? Is there a problem?"

Takato glanced at Hattori Heiji beside him, and seeing that he showed no intention of speaking, he continued to explain.

"Pay close attention to the wounds on the victim's wrists. The victim's wrists were cut twice. The technique was very precise, severing both arteries on the hand. This prevents the wrist wound from coagulating and allows a greater amount of blood to flow out. Under normal circumstances, the victim would die from excessive blood loss. As more and more blood is lost, the human brain will suffer from a lack of oxygen due to insufficient blood. In this situation, a person will become unconscious before dying, meaning that in such cases, the victim usually dies peacefully without feeling pain in the end."

Hearing this, Officer Otaki couldn't help but look at the victim's state of death, realizing what Takato was trying to say.

"But look, everyone, the victim's eyes!"

Takato pointed to the victim's wide-open, terrified eyes and continued, "Those eyes show fear and terror. A person who has lost consciousness cannot make such an expression, which means the victim was subjected to an extremely terrifying stimulus while still conscious, and then died in that fear while still conscious! Simply put, he didn't die from excessive blood loss; he was actually scared to death!"

"In other words, the killer only needed to wait for the victim to bleed to death, but instead, chose to inflict the most painful torment on the victim when he was most helpless before death, making him die in fear! A killer who does this would not simply be after wealth. The killer had an extremely strong emotional release in killing the victim. The only scenario I can think of is revenge! And it's a deep-seated grudge!"

Hattori Heiji listened to Takato's deduction and finally couldn't resist interjecting to complete the final logic, then looked at Takato and praised him.

"To make such a perfect deduction so quickly after seeing the scene, you're not an ordinary person, Detective Brother, are you? Won't you introduce yourself?"

Facing Hattori Heiji's question, Takato smiled helplessly.

"Akechi Takato! I'm a Detective temporarily working odd jobs at this internet cafe."

"I see, you're a Detective too! Hello, my name is Hattori Heiji, I'm a High School "High School Detective". Nice to meet you."

Hattori Heiji said, leaning forward and extending his hand for a handshake.

Seeing Hattori Heiji's gaze, Takato understood that he was currently being suspected—this wasn't good. His identity hadn't been established yet, and he had run into the son of the Osaka Prefectural Police Superintendent. It was a bit counterproductive.

However, he still shook Hattori Heiji's hand.

"Since you're a Detective, why are you working odd jobs here?"

Sure enough, Hattori Heiji immediately hit the nail on the head. A person claiming to be a Detective working odd jobs at a crime scene, without a reasonable explanation, indeed seemed very suspicious.

"To earn money, it's not shameful."

Takato explained with a smile.

"After all, as a new Detective, I don't get many requests."

Showing weakness at this time would be even more suspicious, so Takato bit the bullet and continued. As long as they didn't check his identity information, everything would be fine.

"By the way, as customers of the internet cafe, do any of you know the victim?"

Officer Otaki appropriately asked the manager and others the question, and the somewhat awkward atmosphere between Takato and Hattori Heiji was temporarily broken.

At this moment, the staff member who had gone to call the police returned with an answer, "I know him. He's been coming here almost every day at this time for over a week."

"Every day?"

Hearing this, Takato immediately had an idea. He had just thought that the person who invaded the internet cafe's network must be someone who came to the internet cafe every day and directly installed malicious programs on the internet cafe's computers. And the victim came at this time every day. Could he be the one who invaded the internet cafe's computers?

"Do you have his registration record?"

Officer Otaki continued to inquire.

"Yes, at the front desk. I'll go get it."

The staff member said and ran back to the front desk.

"But Heiji, if the killer committed the murder for revenge, then this case should quickly yield clues. You and Kazuha should go back first."

Officer Otaki said to Hattori Heiji and Toyama Kazuha.

"That's right, chasing the killer is too dangerous. Heiji, you and I should go back first. The police officers will handle the rest."

Toyama Kazuha walked up and pulled Hattori Heiji, saying.

However, Hattori Heiji clearly had no such intention.

"It's too early to go back. After all, the killer is still at the scene!"

Looking at Takato, Hattori Heiji continued, "Don't you agree, Detective Brother?"

As for this conclusion, Takato was full of question marks—What? The killer is still at the scene? Why don't I think so!
