# PAIN BREEDER – CHAPTER 11: "THE VOICE OF BLOOD"
---
**FADE IN:**
**EXT. FOREST – MORNING**
The sun was just rising. The crimson light filtering through the trees turned the forest floor into a lake of blood.
A white dove was gliding through the air. Even this animal seemed to be in a hurry. Its wings were flapping rapidly.
**SHING!**
A spear pierced right through it.
It was Yesser's spear. Was the white dove flying too low, or was Yesser's spear too long? No one knew.
Cain's group had been walking all night. No one had stopped. No one had spoken.
Keisecan swayed on his horse. His eyes were red, his hands trembling. But he wasn't crying. He no longer cried.
**CAIN (on his horse, at the front)**
Are you tired, little aide?
**KEISE (voice hoarse)**
…No.
Cain didn't smile. He just turned his head.
**CAIN**
You're learning to lie. Good.
Yesser moved silently among the trees. His crimson spear gleamed in the sunlight. His face still showed no expression.
Falcon Eye, at the very front, glided along the tree branches. His eyes scanned the forest, catching every movement.
Frostmorne turned his small object in his hand. His black cloak fluttered slightly in the wind.
Valerius walked at the very back, within the shadows. His black umbrella was still open. The smoke from his cigarette rose slowly.
**FALCON EYE (suddenly, sharp)**
Stop.
Everyone stopped.
**FALCON EYE**
There's a camp ahead. Smoke is rising.
Cain dismounted. Keisecan did too.
**CAIN**
How many?
**FALCON EYE (squinting his eyes)**
…Six. Maybe seven.
**CAIN**
Breeders?
**FALCON EYE**
I'm not sure. But the smoke is a different color. Either they're mixing medicine into the fire… or burning something.
Cain turned his head. He looked at Keisecan.
**CAIN**
Time to learn.
Keisecan's face tightened. But he made no sound.
---
**EXT. FOREST – CAMP – SOME TIME LATER**
The camp was set up in a small clearing. Three tents. A fire in the middle. The smoke was a different color, just as Falcon Eye had said. It was bluish. Something had been mixed into it.
Six people sat around the fire. Some were wounded. Some were tending to herbs. Some just stared silently at the sky.
They were Breeders.
Among them was a woman. Red-haired, her face covered in scars. She held a baby in her arms. The baby wasn't crying. It was just sleeping.
**BREEDER WOMAN (whispering)**
We're all going to die…
**BREEDER 2 (weakly)**
Quiet. Maybe no one will come.
**BREEDER WOMAN**
Cain came. No one escapes him.
Silence.
A leaf rustled among the trees.
Cain leaned against a tree trunk, watching them. Keisecan stood beside him.
**CAIN (whispering to Keisecan)**
What do you see?
**KEISE (whispering, trembling)**
…Six people. One baby.
**CAIN**
Breeders. All of them.
Keisecan's breath caught.
**KEISE**
The baby too?
**CAIN**
The baby too. A Breeder is born, a Breeder grows. They have no innocence.
Keisecan's hands trembled. But still, he didn't cry.
**CAIN**
Today, you will kill.
Keisecan's eyes widened.
**KEISE**
I… I can't.
**CAIN**
You can. Because if you don't, they will kill you.
Cain drew his sword. He offered it to Keisecan.
**CAIN**
Take it.
Keisecan's hands trembled. He took the sword. It was heavy.
**CAIN**
Don't be afraid. The first blood is the hardest. Then you get used to it.
Cain placed his hand on Keisecan's shoulder.
**CAIN**
I'm right behind you.
---
**EXT. FOREST – CAMP – EVENING**
It had grown dark.
The campfire still burned. The bluish smoke rose into the sky.
The Breeders were eating. Some prayed, some wept silently.
The woman rocked her baby in her arms.
The baby suddenly began to cry.
**BREEDER WOMAN (whispering)**
Shh… shh…
A sound came from among the trees.
Leaves rustled.
The Breeder woman raised her head.
**BREEDER WOMAN**
Who's there?
Silence.
Then a branch snapped.
Keisecan emerged from the trees. Sword in hand. Trembling.
**BREEDER WOMAN (astonished)**
This… this is a child…
**BREEDER 2**
Is he alone?
Keisecan's breathing was fast. His eyes were wide with fear. But he didn't step back.
**KEISE (voice trembling)**
You… you're Breeders.
**BREEDER WOMAN (softly)**
Yes. But we haven't hurt anyone. We're just running.
**KEISE**
Cain says otherwise.
The woman's face changed.
**BREEDER WOMAN**
Cain… he's a killer. He hunts us. He lost his family, yes. But that doesn't give him the right to kill anyone.
Keisecan's hands trembled. The sword felt heavy.
**BREEDER WOMAN**
Did you lose your family too, child?
Keisecan's eyes filled with tears. But he didn't cry.
**KEISE**
…Yes.
**BREEDER WOMAN**
Did Cain tell you that? That Breeders did it?
Keisecan didn't answer.
**BREEDER WOMAN**
He's lying. Breeders don't murder families. They only try to save the ones they love. Just like you.
Keisecan's sword fell to the ground.
**CLANG!**
An arrow flew from behind the trees.
**SHING!**
It pierced Breeder 2's throat. The man collapsed. Then Frostmorne emerged. The Breeders began to die, one by one.
**BREEDER WOMAN (screaming)**
NO—!
Yesser came out from among the trees. His crimson spear was bloody. His face still showed no expression.
**YESSER**
A waste of time.
Cain emerged from the trees. His mocking smile was gone. There was only emptiness on his face.
**CAIN (to Keisecan)**
Pick up your sword.
Keisecan looked at the sword on the ground. Then at the Breeder woman. Then at Cain.
**KEISE (trembling)**
…I can't.
**CAIN**
You can.
Cain took Keisecan's hand, lifted the sword from the ground, and placed it back in Keisecan's palm.
**CAIN**
Breeders are not innocent. This woman is not innocent either.
**BREEDER WOMAN (in tears)**
Please… take my baby… don't kill him…
The woman held the baby out to Keisecan.
Keisecan froze.
The baby wasn't crying. It was just sleeping.
**CAIN (coldly)**
You will kill the baby too.
Keisecan's eyes filled with tears.
**KEISE**
No…
**CAIN**
A Breeder is born, a Breeder grows. It has no innocence.
Keisecan raised his sword. His hand trembled.
The Breeder woman placed the baby on the ground. Then she looked into Keisecan's eyes.
**BREEDER WOMAN (weak, trembling voice)**
…Do what you have to do. But don't kill him. Please.
Keisecan's hand hung in the air.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then suddenly, Valerius appeared behind him.
**SHING!**
The woman's head rolled to the ground.
Valerius wiped his sword. He puffed his cigarette.
**VALERIUS**
This isn't a playground, Cain. And your aide… instead of sending just a child next time, talking would be more reasonable, don't you think?
Keisecan's eyes went blank. The sword fell from his hand.
**CAIN**
What is there to talk about, Valerius?
Valerius lit his cigarette. He took a deep drag.
**VALERIUS**
There's nothing to talk about. But you could create some topics. Maybe your old village… what do you say?
Cain's eyes narrowed. Veins bulged from his head. He stepped in front of Valerius.
**CAIN**
Come on, let's talk.
Just then, Yesser's spear came between them. They stood face to face. No one spoke.
Then the baby began to cry.
Everyone turned their heads toward the baby.
**KEISE (trembling)**
What will happen to the baby?
**CAIN**
We'll kill it.
**VALERIUS**
No. Remember, Cain. We are hunters, not murderers.
Valerius took the baby into his arms. He turned to Keisecan.
**VALERIUS**
Let's decide among ourselves who will take care of it. Ah, yes. I've got it. Keisecan, you will take care of him.
Then he turned to Cain.
**VALERIUS**
Any objections, Blood Count?
Cain just looked at Valerius. He didn't answer.
**VALERIUS**
Take good care of him, or else.
He placed the baby into Keisecan's hands.
---
**SCENE CHANGE – YONCA GUILD – TRAINING GROUND (FOREST AREA)**
**THUD!**
A sword fell from above. Into Ren's hand.
They were outside the guild, in a wooded area. Erett was with him.
**ERETT**
Come on, soldier. Show us your skills.
Ren looked at the sword. Then at Erett.
**REN**
I don't fight with a sword. I use my hands.
**ERETT (surprised)**
What do you mean? Did you kill those hunters with your bare hands?
**REN**
Yes. Just my hands.
**ERETT (impressed)**
Impressive. Good. But son, bare hands aren't always enough. Sometimes the sound of steel is more important. Come on, attack me.
Ren attacked. The sound of clashing steel filled the entire forest.
Erett disarmed Ren with a quick move, knocking the sword to the ground.
**ERETT**
No, Ren. No. Wars are fought without emotion. Remember. You said you've encountered Cain before, didn't you?
Ren nodded silently.
**ERETT**
Look at that legendary hunter. Did he show any emotion when fighting you?
**REN**
No. Even when his arm was cut off, he was still smiling.
**ERETT**
That's it. Swing your sword with emotion. But with the right emotion.
Just then, a voice cried out.
**WOUNDED BREEDER (from a distance, desperately)**
Help! Help me!
Erett and Ren turned their heads toward the sound.
A wounded Breeder was running. An arrow in his back.
**WOUNDED BREEDER (breathless)**
Please… help me…
The man collapsed to the ground.
---
**FADE OUT.**
**[END OF CHAPTER 11]**
