Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Scene: Government Office – Hridyansh's Cabin

Hridyansh sat behind his desk, files neatly stacked in front of him, his expression calm—but his eyes carried the weight of responsibility.

He picked up a file, glanced through it, and called his junior.

Within moments, the officer stepped in. "Yes, sir?"

Hridyansh looked up and said firmly, "I want complete details on this."

The junior hesitated for a brief second before replying, "Sir… this file is already marked as cleared."

"Then why is it still on my desk?" Hridyansh asked, his tone calm but piercing.

"And from what I can see… this doesn't look cleared to me."

The junior shifted uncomfortably, glancing at the file before saying, "Sir… this came from the finance department."

"I want a complete report on this within two hours," Hridyansh said firmly.

"And find out exactly who handled this file."

The junior nodded quickly, sensing the seriousness in his tone. "Yes, sir. I'll get everything on your desk."

The officer left the cabin, closing the door quietly behind him.

Hridyansh leaned back in his chair, his gaze fixed on the file—something about it didn't feel right.

A faint crease formed on his forehead as a thought crossed his mind—this wasn't just a simple oversight.

Two hours later, the officer returned to his cabin, a file clutched tightly in his hand.

"Sir… here are all the details," he said, placing it carefully on the desk.

Hridyansh opened the file and began going through it page by page, his expression growing more serious with every passing second.

It was a multi-crore rural development project—covering road construction, water pipelines, and sanitation facilities across several villages.

On paper, everything looked flawless. Every report was marked "completed," every fund accounted for, every signature perfectly in place.

But the deeper he went, the more the cracks began to show.

The same contractor name appeared repeatedly across different districts.

Inspection reports were filed on dates when no visits were actually recorded.

Photographic evidence looked identical—just renamed and reused for different locations.

And then… something even more disturbing.

The final clearance note stated that the entire project had been personally reviewed and approved by a senior officer—

IAS Officer R.K. Verma.

Hridyansh paused.

R.K. Verma was known for his integrity—someone who never signed anything without thorough verification.

Which meant only two possibilities—

either the documents were forged…

or something much bigger was being hidden beneath the surface.

Hridyansh slowly closed the file, his eyes sharp—because this was no longer just a case… it was a trap waiting to unfold.

He immediately called the officer back.

"It's not mentioned anywhere which company was awarded this contract," Hridyansh said, his voice calm but firm.

"And if this project was cleared under R.K. Verma… then why is this file on my desk?"

The officer hesitated, his eyes lowering for a moment before he replied, "Sir… this file was flagged anonymously and redirected to your office."

"This is strange… very strange," Hridyansh said quietly, his eyes narrowing as the pieces refused to fit together.

He tapped his fingers lightly on the desk before looking up again, his voice turning sharper—"Find out who flagged this file… I want names."

The officer left once again.

Hridyansh sat back in his chair and began reviewing other files, but his mind kept drifting back to that suspicious one.

No matter how hard he tried to focus, something about it kept bothering him—like a puzzle that refused to be ignored.

Within an hour, the officer rushed back into his cabin, slightly out of breath.

"Sir… we found something unusual," he said.

"This project was originally assigned for review under your name… but it has been completed and cleared under R.K. Verma."

For a moment, Hridyansh went still—because now it wasn't just suspicious… it was personal.

"What is this? A joke?" Hridyansh's voice turned cold.

"A project assigned to me for review… cleared by someone else… and I wasn't informed at all?"

The officer remained silent, the tension in the room thickening as Hridyansh's expression hardened—this was no clerical error.

"I'll speak to IAS R.K. Verma myself," Hridyansh said, his tone firm and controlled.

He reached for his phone, his mind already racing—because whatever this was, it had gone far beyond a simple mistake.

He immediately called R.K. Verma and explained the entire situation.

But the response he received made his grip tighten around the phone—

Verma denied reviewing any such project.

A chilling silence filled the room—because now it was clear… someone had forged not just documents, but the authority of an IAS officer.

He ended the call, his expression still composed—but inside, he was shaken.

One question, however, still lingered in his mind…

who was actually awarded this contract?

He slowly turned back to the file, his eyes narrowing—because somewhere in those pages… the truth was hiding.

He went through the file again, page by page—but nowhere was the name of the company mentioned.

A project worth crores… cleared, executed, and closed—without a contractor on record. That wasn't just unusual… it was impossible.

At that moment, his phone rang. It was from home.

"Isha has fainted," the voice on the other end said, panic clearly evident.

Hridyansh's expression changed instantly—without another thought, he grabbed his keys and rushed out, the case momentarily slipping from his mind.

He reached the hospital within minutes and rushed straight toward the doctor, his heart pounding with fear.

"Doctor, how is she?" he asked urgently, his voice barely steady as he searched for answers.

The doctor smiled warmly. "Congratulations, Mr. Hridyansh… you're going to be a father."

For a moment, everything else faded—the fear, the tension, even the unanswered questions… as a quiet, overwhelming happiness took over him.

Hridyansh stood there, a soft smile forming through the chaos of emotions.

A new life… a new beginning… something pure, untouched by the darkness of the world outside.

He gently walked into the room and saw Isha resting, her face calm.

Sitting beside her, he held her hand—this time, not as a promise… but as a silent vow.

To protect her.

To protect their child.

To protect the life they had just begun.

But somewhere, buried beneath this moment of happiness…

a question still lingered—

about the file…

about the missing truth…

about the storm that was slowly finding its way toward them.

Because sometimes…

when life gives you a reason to smile,

it also begins testing how much you can protect it.

Will this new happiness bring them closer…

or become the very reason everything starts to fall apart?

Wait for the next part… because the game has just begun. ⚡

To be continued…
