Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 — The Day I Met Him in College… Not Knowing He’d Forget Me

I still remember that day… clearer than anything else in my life.

The day I first saw him.

It was my first week in college. Everything felt new—new faces, new classrooms, new beginnings. I was nervous, trying to adjust, trying to fit in… trying not to feel lost.

And then… I saw him.

Standing in the middle of the cricket ground.

Confident. Calm. Surrounded by people.

James Carter.

I didn't know his name back then.

But somehow… I couldn't look away.

There was something about him.

The way he held the bat.

The way everyone listened when he spoke.

The way he smiled… like the world was already his.

"Who is he?" I asked the girl standing next to me.

She followed my gaze and smiled.

"You don't know? That's James Carter. College cricket team captain."

Captain.

That made sense.

He didn't just stand there… he owned the place.

I don't know why… but from that moment, my eyes kept finding him.

In the corridor.

In the cafeteria.

On the ground.

It became a habit.

Or maybe… something more.

A few days later, I was walking across the campus, holding my books, lost in my own thoughts—

And suddenly—

thud

I collided with someone.

My books slipped from my hands and fell to the ground.

"I'm so sorry—" I started, bending down quickly.

But before I could pick them up… someone else did.

I looked up.

And my heart skipped a beat.

It was him.

James.

"I think this is yours," he said, handing me my notebook.

His voice was calm… but something about it made me nervous.

"Th-thank you," I stuttered.

Great. First impression ruined.

He gave a small smile.

"First year?"

I nodded.

"Yes."

"Be careful next time," he said lightly, "the campus can be dangerous."

I blinked.

"Dangerous?"

He smirked slightly.

"You never know who you might run into."

For a second, I didn't understand.

Then I realized.

He was joking.

And somehow… that made me smile.

From that day…

Things started changing.

Not suddenly.

Not dramatically.

Just… slowly.

We started crossing paths more often.

Sometimes by chance.

Sometimes… not really.

A small "hi" turned into short conversations.

Short conversations turned into longer ones.

And before I even realized it…

He wasn't just the boy I noticed.

He became the person I looked for.

But what I didn't know back then…

Was that this beginning…

Was already leading to an end.

An end where—

He would stand in front of me one day…

And not remember me at all.

...... ..... . ....

I met him in college…

I fell in love with him…

I married him…

But one day—

He looked into my eyes and asked,

"Who are you?" 💀
