His job as a zookeeper for a national treasure, the giant panda, had once been a source of immense pride, and his daily life was incredibly therapeutic.
All of that changed after Si Yang broke his leg. The panda he had raised by hand became extremely aggressive, leaving no choice but to isolate it in a separate enclosure to recover.
With the fur on his lower body shaved, the once endearingly goofy little guy now looked rather pathetic. But his keeper still came to visit every day, bringing all sorts of tasty treats.
This was the same Si Yang who could tell which keeper was coming to feed him just by the sound of their footsteps. Now, however, he wouldn't let the keeper get close, just endlessly crying out and baring his teeth, seemingly in great distress.
The keeper didn't understand what the giant panda was trying to express. He just quietly placed a freshly washed apple inside the isolation ward, hoping the little snack would cheer the kid up a bit.
