Amid the downpour, the man still held the black umbrella. Cradling the cat in her arms, Qiao An wore a rare, gentle expression.
The man stood cautiously beside Qiao An, not daring to get too close, yet not wanting to be too far. He was so focused on keeping the rain off her shoulders, constantly tilting the umbrella, that he didn't even notice his own back was getting soaked.
When the two arrived at the pet hospital, Qiao An had to fight back a laugh as she watched the once free-roaming stray begin its regimen of deworming and vaccinations.
To everyone else, the cat was just meowing constantly out of fear. But only Qiao An could understand how foul its curses were!
"Human! You ungrateful wretch!"
"We had a deal! I'm a free stray forever! I'll never surrender for canned food, and you can't force me to get a job!"
"Boo hoo... I was wrong! I don't want to be a workhorse! I want to be a free cat..."
