The festive season was slowly approaching its end. Durga Puja had already passed, but the excitement of the celebrations had not faded yet. There were still two very important occasions left—Diwali and Bhai Phonta. Because of these upcoming festivals, the joy and enthusiasm among everyone had not diminished at all. In fact, it felt as if the festive spirit was continuing in full swing.
Diwali was always one of the most exciting days of the year for us. On that day, we burst a huge number of fireworks. Apart from the lights and decorations, the entire sky would be filled with colorful explosions of crackers and rockets. In our neighborhood, the celebration of Kali Puja also took place on the same night as Diwali. Because of that, the night sky would glow endlessly with fireworks of every kind imaginable. It was truly a magical sight that everyone looked forward to every year.
This year, Diwali and Kali Puja were going to be celebrated on Monday. And honestly, a Diwali without bursting fireworks was simply unthinkable for us. So we, a group of friends, decided that we would go out on Sunday to buy our fireworks.
As planned, when the time came, all of us friends gathered together and headed toward the firework market. Our group consisted of me, Kartik, Sanjib, Megha, and five other friends from our neighborhood. The atmosphere on the streets was already buzzing with excitement. Shops were brightly lit, and many stalls were selling colorful fireworks. Everywhere we looked, people were busy preparing for the big night.
When we reached the shop to buy crackers, we divided ourselves into two smaller groups to make the buying process easier. In one group, there were Sanjib and Megha. In the other group were the rest of us—Kartik, me, and the other friends.
Each of us had already decided the amount of fireworks we would buy. We were buying them in moderate quantities so that we could enjoy them together during the celebration. But something unusual caught our attention.
Sanjib seemed to be buying nearly half of the total fireworks all by himself.
At first, we were a bit surprised. But after thinking for a moment, we quickly understood the reason behind it. Sanjib clearly had something special planned. The amount of fireworks he was purchasing made it obvious that he was preparing for something bigger than just casual celebrations.
None of us said anything out loud, but we exchanged meaningful glances with each other and smiled quietly.
After finishing our shopping, we all started heading back home. As we walked along the road, we could already see fireworks being burst in the distance. The sky was filled with bright flashes of red, green, blue, and golden sparks. Rockets shot high into the air before exploding into dazzling patterns.
The scene was absolutely breathtaking.
It was the kind of beauty that could hardly be described with words. The sky looked like a gigantic canvas painted with colors and light.
Megha looked up at the sky in amazement and said excitedly,
"Oh my God! Sanjib, look at the sky. Doesn't it look so beautiful? What do you think?"
Sanjib smiled while watching the fireworks and replied,
"Yes, you're right. It's really amazing. Watching this makes the heart feel peaceful and happy."
All of us stood there for a moment, admiring the colorful display above us. The crackling sounds of fireworks echoed all around the neighborhood, creating a festive symphony of celebration.
After enjoying the view for a while, we continued walking back toward our homes.
Before leaving, Sanjib turned toward Megha and said mysteriously,
"Megha! Make sure you come early tomorrow. A big surprise is waiting for you."
Megha looked curious and a little excited.
"A surprise? Okay, Sanjib. I'll definitely come," she replied eagerly.
With that, we all returned home for the night.
The next day was the much-awaited day of Diwali and Kali Puja.
From the morning itself, preparations had already begun at the neighborhood club beside our houses. The members of the club were busy decorating the area, arranging lights, setting up the stage for the puja rituals, and preparing everything necessary for the evening ceremony.
The senior members were guiding the work, while we juniors also joined in to help as much as we could. Some of us arranged decorations, some helped with lighting, and others assisted with small tasks around the club premises.
The entire area gradually transformed into a beautiful festive venue.
As evening slowly turned into night, the atmosphere became even more lively. People started gathering near the club to witness the Kali Puja ceremony. The idol of Goddess Kali looked magnificent under the glowing lights and decorations.
Soon, the puja rituals began with great devotion and excitement.
After the rituals were completed, the celebration of fireworks started.
One after another, different kinds of fireworks lit up the sky. There were loud bomb crackers, colorful fountains, spinning chakris, sky rockets, and many other dazzling fireworks. The sounds echoed loudly through the air while the sky sparkled with bright colors.
The environment became incredibly vibrant and festive.
We friends also gathered together and began bursting some of the fireworks we had bought the previous day. We lit sparklers, rockets, and fountains, laughing and cheering as the sparks danced in the air.
Everyone was having a wonderful time.
Suddenly, Sanjib quietly signaled something to us with his hand.
We immediately understood that the moment had arrived for his special plan. Without making it obvious, we each returned to our tasks and positions.
Then Sanjib turned toward Megha and said,
"Megha! The time has come. Now it's time for you to see your surprise."
Megha had been waiting eagerly since the previous day.
"Yes! I've been waiting for this moment for so long. I can't wait to see what the surprise is," she replied excitedly.
Sanjib smiled and gently guided her toward a nearby three-story building. Together they climbed the stairs and reached the rooftop.
From the rooftop, the entire neighborhood could be seen clearly. The night sky stretched endlessly above them, glowing with occasional fireworks bursting in the distance.
Sanjib then handed Megha a small whistle.
Looking slightly puzzled, Megha asked nothing but waited for an explanation.
Sanjib said softly,
"Megha, blow this whistle as loudly as you can. Once you do that, you'll see the surprise."
Megha was already too curious to ask more questions. Without wasting a moment, she placed the whistle to her lips and blew it loudly.
The moment the whistle sound echoed through the air, something incredible happened.
Suddenly, from different corners of the neighborhood, rockets shot up into the sky one after another. At the same time, dozens of sky lanterns—glowing softly with warm light—began floating upward into the night.
Within seconds, the entire sky was filled with fireworks.
Rockets burst into colorful patterns, fountains sparkled brightly from the rooftops, and lanterns slowly drifted upward like glowing stars.
It felt as if the sky itself had turned into a magical dream.
The breathtaking display looked like something out of a fantasy world.
Megha stood there in complete astonishment, watching the magnificent scene unfold before her eyes. The sky was glowing with countless colors—red, blue, green, gold, and silver. The floating lanterns added a peaceful beauty to the vibrant explosions of fireworks.
It truly felt like standing inside a dream.
Sanjib looked at Megha and asked gently,
"So, Megha… are you happy?"
Megha's eyes were still fixed on the sky, shining with excitement and joy.
"Yes… I'm very happy today," she replied softly.
For a few quiet moments, both of them simply stood there together, enjoying the magical beauty of the night.
The colorful fireworks continued bursting above them while the lanterns floated higher and higher into the dark sky.
It was a moment neither of them would ever forget.
After some time, the fireworks slowly ended, and the sky gradually returned to its calm state.
Eventually, it was time for everyone to return home.
As Megha prepared to leave, she turned toward Sanjib with a grateful smile and said,
"Thank you, Sanjib. Because of you, I got to see something so beautiful tonight. I enjoyed it so much. So… thank you once again."
Sanjib laughed lightly and replied,
"Alright, alright. Now go home and get some rest. We'll talk again tomorrow. Bye!"
Megha waved goodbye and said,
"Good night, Sanjib. Bye!"
They both went their separate ways and returned to their homes.
Later that night, after everything had quieted down, Sanjib came to meet us—his friends who had secretly helped him arrange the entire surprise.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all of us for supporting his plan.
Without our help, organizing such a beautiful surprise would have been nearly impossible.
After thanking everyone, he finally returned home.
But even after reaching home, Sanjib couldn't sleep immediately.
The memories of the evening kept replaying in his mind—the fireworks, the lanterns, Megha's smile, and the magical atmosphere of the night.
Feeling inspired and emotional, he sat down at his desk with a notebook and pen.
Under the soft glow of the table lamp, he began writing down the events of the unforgettable night so that he would never forget it.
Carefully, he wrote the tale of the experience memory on the story book :
"A journey from Books to Hearts 💕."
And with that, he began recording the beautiful story of a friendship that was slowly turning into something much deeper—something called true love.
