Phoebe Faulkner grabbed Jace Lennox's arm. "You have to know my older brother! Please, tell me, what happened to him? Everyone says he's dead, but I don't believe it. My brother is so incredible, there's no way..."
"Finn Vaughn, get her out of here!"
Jace Lennox pried Phoebe Faulkner's hand off his arm and barked the order at the bodyguard outside the door.
Hearing this, Phoebe Faulkner lunged like a cornered animal, throwing herself at Jace Lennox and wrapping her arms around his waist. She entangled all her limbs around his body, clinging to him like an octopus, and shouted, "If you don't tell me what happened to my brother, I'm not leaving! Didn't you say you were going to lock me up? Well, go ahead! Lock me up!"
'When her second brother had his accident, he only ended up in a vegetative state. At least she could still see him, still hope that he might one day wake up. But with her older brother, he was missing without a trace—not even a body was found.'
'After learning what happened to her older brother, she had tried everything to find him, to track down anyone who might have a clue.'
'Now that she had finally found someone, how could she possibly let him go?'
"Finn Vaughn!"
"Yes, boss!" Finn Vaughn entered and forcibly pulled Phoebe Faulkner away.
Phoebe Faulkner tried to struggle, but she was no match for Finn Vaughn. She was simply dragged out of the room.
"Miss Faulkner, you can leave now."
Finn Vaughn led Phoebe Faulkner to the elevator and pressed the down button.
"You're his bodyguard, right? Tell me, does he know my older brother? My brother's name is Cody Faulkner. He looks a lot like me. Take a good look at my face—have you ever seen a man who resembles me...?"
"Miss Faulkner, the elevator is here." Finn Vaughn ushered Phoebe Faulkner inside, pressed the button, and didn't say another word.
Phoebe Faulkner was forcibly sent on her way.
However, no sooner had Finn Vaughn escorted her out of the hotel and turned back than she spun around and ran right back in. She pressed the elevator button and headed straight for the presidential suite on the top floor where Jace Lennox was staying.
DING-DONG—DING-DONG—
Hearing the doorbell, Jace Lennox stood, walked to the entrance, and opened it to find a panting Phoebe Faulkner. "My... my brother..."
Jace Lennox immediately moved to shut the door.
Phoebe Faulkner quickly squeezed halfway in, using her body to block the door and keep Jace Lennox from shutting her out.
"Sir, at the auction... did you spend all that money on me because of my older brother? Are you his friend? Can you please tell me what happened to him?"
Jace Lennox stared at Phoebe Faulkner in silence.
Phoebe Faulkner was still catching her breath, but her gaze was resolute, her eyes filled with desperate hope.
Jace Lennox released his grip on the door.
Phoebe Faulkner slipped inside.
"S-Sir..." Phoebe Faulkner gasped, forcing a smile. But before she could ask her question, Jace Lennox seized her wrists, pinned them over her head, and slammed her back against the door.
"If I were your brother's friend, do you really think I'd take advantage of his misfortune to sleep with you?" His handsome face was just inches from hers, his warm breath fanning across her skin and making her cheeks burn.
"I bought you for one reason: to sleep with you. And since you refuse to leave..." Jace Lennox's fingers traced her cheek.
At his words, Phoebe Faulkner shoved him away with all her might.
Pushed back a step, Jace Lennox slid one hand into his pocket and watched her with cold indifference.
