Annelise Valentine hugged the dog and stared at the two troublemakers, finally unable to hold back. "Alright, you two, come over here."
Pippa immediately ran over and hugged her leg. "Mommy, you're not mad anymore?"
Annelise freed a hand to ruffle his head. "Is there any point in being angry? You've already brought the dog home."
Her tone shifted, her expression turning serious.
"We can keep the dog, but he can't be named Westgate."
Pippa asked, "Then what should we call him? How about we call him Goldie!"
"Mommy, look! He's Goldie, isn't that cute? Goldie, do you like that name?"
The little golden retriever gave a cooperative "WOOF."
Pippa asked, "Can we, Mommy? Can we please call him Goldie?"
Goldie.
'At least it's better than Westgate.'
She sighed helplessly and reached out to ruffle Pippa's head, the corners of her mouth curving up in spite of herself.
"Alright, we'll do as you say. His name is Goldie."
