"Succeed? Fat chance!" Hayley Sullivan took a sip of tea. "Even if she had wings, I'll make sure there's no escape for her this time."
A cold glint shone in her eyes. "That girl has lived in our home for so many years. With our family on the brink of collapse, it's about time she made some sort of contribution!"
It was Hayley Sullivan's idea to sell Georgia Thorne to Keith Larkin.
She had been considering it ever since Jared Thorne brought the girl home all those years ago.
'Georgia Thorne had to go.'
Jared Thorne let out a short sigh. The company was nearly finished, and if Keith Larkin hadn't been willing to invest, he wouldn't have resorted to such a ploy.
'If they could really win over Keith Larkin, there was hope for the company.'
The afternoon was spent in restless anxiety.
Outside, the sound of a car was heard.
Selena Sheridan squeezed Georgia Thorne's hand. "Georgia, I'll go in with you."
Georgia Thorne didn't refuse. She had escaped safely, but she knew if she didn't give Jared Thorne and the others a valid reason, they would never let her off the hook so easily.
A servant hurried to open the door, only to see that the person accompanying Georgia Thorne wasn't Keith Larkin, but Selena Sheridan.
The color drained from their faces.
Hayley Sullivan was so furious she nearly smashed the cup in her hand. 'Selena Sheridan? The Sheridan Family's most treasured granddaughter, a true high-society lady.'
Selena Sheridan couldn't stand the way the Thorne Family treated Georgia Thorne, and her own expression was grim.
Holding Georgia's hand, she said softly, "Georgia, take it easy."
"Miss Sheridan, what brings you here?" Jared Thorne immediately put on a welcoming smile, not daring to mention the incident at the hotel.
Selena Sheridan looked at them with contempt, putting on the airs of a great lady. "What's the matter? Am I not allowed to visit?"
"Of course you are. You're welcome here anytime," Jared Thorne said with a sycophantic grin.
"Dad, Mom, I'm a little tired today. I'm going to go to my room to rest," Georgia Thorne said listlessly, her eyes downcast.
"Yes, yes, you go on upstairs."
Leaning on Selena Sheridan for support, Georgia Thorne went back to her room.
On the stairs, they ran into Amanda Thorne, who was coming down.
As they passed, Georgia heard her snort with contempt.
Once they were back in the room, Selena Sheridan burst out, "I just can't stand it anymore! The way your family treats you!"
Selena Sheridan treated Georgia Thorne wonderfully, just like a real sister.
"Please, don't. I should have expected this," Georgia Thorne said, sinking onto the bed, utterly exhausted.
'It seemed this was the only purpose she served for the Thorne Family now.'
"How can I not say anything? You're his—Jared Thorne's—daughter, after all! You..." Selena Sheridan started, indignant on her friend's behalf, but she trailed off when she saw Georgia's red-rimmed eyes.
She changed the subject. "You still haven't told me, how did you get away?"
Georgia's head throbbed at the thought of Elliot Sheridan.
'He hadn't wanted her. It was too humiliating to admit out loud.'
Georgia Thorne told a half-truth. "I grabbed a knife, wounded Keith Larkin, and ran out while he was caught off guard."
「Downstairs」
Jared Thorne quickly called Keith Larkin.
Over the phone, Keith Larkin was screaming, ranting about how they had offended the Sheridan Family and that everything was ruined.
Someone from the Sheridan Family...
