"AHHHH!"
The sudden scream echoed through the vast old castle.
Iris Yates was so scared she squeezed her eyes shut, her feet feeling rooted to the spot. She gripped Rhett Reynolds's hand tightly. "What happened? I think that was Ruby's voice."
Rhett Reynolds shone his flashlight around. "I don't see anyone. She was probably just scared by a snake or some creepy-crawlies. Don't be afraid. This is just a large hall filled with junk."
After a few seconds, Iris Yates slowly opened her eyes. Looking at the area illuminated by the flashlight, she realized this old castle was more than met the eye. The hall was high and wide, filled with clutter on both sides, with a wooden staircase winding its way up the middle.
'Maybe it's not as scary as I thought?'
Ruby Sawyer had been so frightened by what just happened that she'd nearly bolted out the door.
