Needless to say, that guy Zheng Lei had a campus belle for a girlfriend and wanted to show her off.
He was calling Yang Hui over for no other reason than to use him as a backdrop. The message was clear: 'You and Lin Yu broke up ages ago, but I've managed to stay with my campus belle for six years.'

He couldn't just expose Huang Lingyu's part-time job at the KTV. Zheng Lei would be mortified, and Huang Lingyu would be devastated.
He had no grudge against Huang Lingyu, so of course he wouldn't put her in such an impossible position.
If he went, Huang Lingyu probably wouldn't be able to stomach a single bite all night. So, he decided it was best not to get involved.

This guy clearly loved watching drama unfold and had no problem fanning the flames. Yang Hui offered to see him off *after* dinner, but Sun Tao wouldn't have it.
