Damian Fairchild glanced at Seraphina Quinn. "I heard you had a miscarriage with severe bleeding years ago and can no longer have children?"
His words were like a rusty knife, slicing a raw, bloody gash across Seraphina Quinn's heart. The pain instantly drained the color from her face.
He continued, "A woman who's lost the ability to be a mother must be quite envious of others with children, wouldn't you say?"
Seraphina's breathing grew heavy.
Her hands at her sides suddenly clenched into fists.
She swallowed hard, then forced a smile. "Yes. I'm so envious that Mr. Fairchild will soon be surrounded by children and grandchildren."
With that, Seraphina Quinn turned and walked away.
Mr. Winslow waited until she was a good distance away before his gaze fell on Damian Fairchild. He asked pointedly, "That ex-wife of yours… she can't have children?"
