Megan Kane couldn't believe what she was hearing.
She suddenly felt her heart pounding.
She could no longer suppress the emotions she had just managed to calm.
The two people inside didn't seem to have noticed the eavesdropper outside.
They were still talking animatedly about the matter, as if they didn't know how to resolve it.
"I'm doing everything I can to negotiate the terms you've proposed."
"But you should really think about the amount you're asking for."
"I really can't come up with it on such short notice."
Rowan Monroe found the man's demand utterly preposterous. How could she possibly hand over such a large sum of money?
She felt the issue was no longer about whether they could continue negotiating, but that there was simply no way to negotiate further.
After all, no matter how much she thought about it, she couldn't produce that much money. Unless she was given some time, no matter how they discussed it today, they would never find a solution.
