Before Megan Kane could even pull herself from her daze, her brow furrowed. A sudden knock had sounded at the door, and she had no idea who was out there.
'At this hour, whoever it was couldn't have gotten back so soon, could they?'
She couldn't make sense of what was happening, much less who could possibly be knocking.
'I have to stay as calm as possible, in case they suddenly decide to break the door down.'
The person outside offered no response, simply resuming their unhurried knocking.
It was as if this would not end until the door was opened, one way or another.
"Who the hell are you? If you don't answer, there's no way I'm opening this door."
"Speak up now, or you can just stay out there and knock all day."
"Besides, I've already pressed the call button. Medical staff will be here any second, so I hope you can keep that rhythm going."
"Just don't be planning to run off the second they get here."
