Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: We Are Already Divorced

The case took a sudden, unexpected turn.

Overnight.

Countless WeChat messages between Jane Jacobs and her best friend were leaked to the media.

The leak sparked a nationwide discussion, and the story quickly shot to the top of the social media trending charts.

[Why does *she*, Evelyn Grant, get to steal my man and marry Julian?]

[I'm going to ask Evelyn Grant to meet me and push her off a roof! What do you think? Is it doable?]

[Don't worry, Julian will definitely take my side.]

[Because I'm pregnant. The baby isn't his, but Julian doesn't know! He thinks we slept together that night, but he was dead drunk. He couldn't even get it up, so how could I possibly be pregnant?]

[And let's say, worst-case scenario, the truth comes out. As Evelyn Grant's husband, Julian will definitely sign a letter of forgiveness for me! So, I'm going to risk it.]

[As soon as Evelyn Grant is dead, I'll be the rightful mistress of the Sterling household.]

Each and every screenshot was a testament to Jane Jacobs's venom and cunning!

Bolstered by public pressure, the police verified the evidence and uncovered the truth with record speed.

And so, on the 58th day of her detainment, Evelyn Grant was finally cleared of murder and acquitted.

As the two imposing black gates before her slowly swung open, the air of freedom rushed in to meet her.

Evelyn Grant's eyes welled with tears.

'These past days have been a living nightmare!'

'Today, I can finally wake up.'

The clothes she had been wearing when she was arrested now hung loosely on her frame, so baggy she seemed to rattle inside them.

Evelyn Grant looked nothing like a pregnant woman; she was as thin as a rail.

Outside the high walls, a black Maybach had been waiting for some time.

The moment Evelyn Grant emerged, a car door was thrown open, and a tall, slender figure strode toward her.

"You had those chat logs as evidence. Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

It was Julian Sterling.

His dark eyes simmered with displeasure, and his opening words were a cold accusation.

"Evelyn Grant, was it fun? You could have quietly submitted that evidence to the court to prove your innocence. But no, you had to leak it to the media and make a public spectacle of it all!"

"Do you have any idea what you've done? Jane's grave was desecrated, her headstone defaced! Are you happy now?"

Her silence only fueled his rage. "Say something! Have you gone mute?"

"What do I have to be happy about?"

she retorted.

Her voice was cold and distant.

Julian Sterling's handsome face froze. He clearly hadn't expected her to talk back.

"Seeing just how deeply my husband loved his mistress? Yes, that's certainly something to celebrate."

"You—"

"We're divorced. I don't want to see you again."

Evelyn Grant was surprisingly calm. Perhaps it was despair, or maybe after the earth-shattering upheaval her life had become... she was simply tired.

Exhausted, body and soul.

She tried to walk away, but Julian Sterling grabbed her by the wrist, yanking her back and dragging her toward his car.

"You're coming with me!"

Evelyn Grant panicked, struggling against his grip. "Julian Sterling, what are you doing? Where are you taking me!"

"To the hospital! To get rid of that bastard in your belly!"

He clenched his fists, his usually warm and gentle eyes now bloodshot with rage. "You only got pregnant by some other man to escape the death penalty, didn't you? Now that you've been acquitted, that child is useless. I won't allow it to exist!"

'Julian Sterling didn't know what was wrong with him. The mere thought of Evelyn Grant beneath another man, writhing in pleasure as they made love, sent an uncontrollable rage coursing through him.'

'Evelyn Grant had told him herself that she only had eyes for him!'

'How dare she!'

"Let me go!" The sharp pain shooting through her wrist made Evelyn Grant's brow furrow in pain.

But she was no match for Julian's strength and could only let him drag her forward.

Suddenly—

another cold voice cut in,

forcefully pulling Evelyn Grant into his embrace.

"Brother, she told you to let her go. Didn't you hear?"
