Chapter 12 - Aftermath Part 2
Blue lightning and steel collided outside the Kaminari estate.
Clang!
Unruly Ay's lightning coated forearm stopped the Root ANBU's tanto from reaching Antares' throat.
Ay pushed him back.
Barely.
A thin line of blood opened along Ay's arm, but he did not move back.
"Stay behind me," Unruly Ay said towards his little brother, his voice rough as lightning crackled around his body slightly.
Antares sat on the cold stone path behind him sweating, and breathing way too fast to be normal, almost hyperventilating.
His face was stained with blood on it, not his blood.
That made it worse.
The Root ANBU tilted his head slightly at Unruly Ay.
Just a small movement acknowledging Unruly Ay, like he was looking at an interesting obstacle.
Not an enemy, just an obstacle.
'He's not taking him seriously,' Antares thought, his fingers digging into the stone beneath him.
The Root operative moved.
Step.
And he vanished
Unruly Ay's eyes widened.
Clang!
He blocked the first strike with his hand clad in more condensed lightning chakra so the tanto doesn't cut through it.
Crack!
The second hit his side.
Ay grunted as the tanto scraped across his unstable Lightning Cloak, cutting through the chakra and drawing blood.
The Root ANBU did not press forward immediately.
He watched and measured his opponent.
Ay clenched his teeth.
"You think I'm weak?" Unruly Ay growled, his lightning flaring brighter around him.
The Root ANBU said nothing.
That silence was worse than an insult.
Unruly Ay stepped forward.
Boom!
The stone cracked beneath his foot as he vanished in a rough Lightning Shunshin.
For a second, Antares saw only a blue light streak.
Then Ay appeared in front of the Root ANBU and threw a punch toward his mask.
The assassin leaned back just enough to dodge the telegraphed attack. The Lightning Shunshin was fast, but at Unruly Ay's level, it still moved in a straight line.
Ay's fist grazed the mask with his fist.
Crack!
A thin line split across the blank white surface.
The Root ANBU finally took one step back.
Step.
Ay grinned through bloody teeth.
"There you are," Unruly Ay said, his voice filled with anger.
Then the Root operative disappeared in smoke.
Poof!
Ay's grin vanished.
Antares' eyes widened.
"Behind you!" Antares shouted before he even realized he had spoken.
Unruly Ay twisted.
Shing!
The tanto missed his neck by a hair's breadth away.
Ay drove his elbow backward.
Boom!
The Root ANBU blocked, but the force sent him sliding across the stone path.
Crk.
Inside the estate, Misaki's clone was still fighting.
Boom!
One Root operative crashed through a wall, lightning crawling across his chest as smoke rose from his flack jacket.
Misaki's clone stepped through the hole after him.
Her hair flickered with static electricity.
Her eyes were cold.
Very cold.
"You picked the wrong family to mess with," Misaki's clone said, her voice sharp and her temper flaring as golden chains formed behind her.
The Root ANBU on the ground reached toward his mouth.
Poison capsule.
The clone moved first.
Clink!
Golden chains wrapped around his jaw, arms, and throat before he could bite down.
Then her body flickered from instability.
Antares noticed since the wall separating them was broken through after his mother launched the Root through the wall.
The Root ANBU fighting Unruly Ay also noticed the instability in the clone.
The assassin's posture changed.
He had found a weakness.
Misaki's clone clenched her teeth as she was receiving chakra.
Far away, the real Misaki was still feeding chakra through the seal connection.
She was still too far away, tired and angry to stop.
The Root ANBU fighting Unruly Ay moved suddenly.
Not toward Ay.
Toward the clone.
Unruly Ay's eyes sharpened.
"Oh no you don't!" Unruly Ay yelled as he pushed chakra into his legs.
Bzzzt!
He vanished.
But he was slower now.
Only a little.
But in a fight like this, a little was enough to make a huge impact.
The Root ANBU slipped past him.
Step.
Step.
The assassin's blade flashed towards Misaki's Clone.
Misaki's clone turned.
Too late.
Shing!
The tanto pierced through her chest.
For half a second, nobody moved.
Antares stopped breathing.
The clone looked down at the blade.
Then back at Antares.
Her expression softened.
Just for him.
"Run Sochi," Misaki's clone whispered.
Then her body cracked apart into blue lightning.
Bzzzt!*
The clone vanished and the lightning went through the blade towards the Root anbu.
Antares stared at the empty space where she had just been.
His mind knew it was a clone but his heart did not care.
"M-Mom…" Antares whispered, his voice shaking as his emotions fluctuated and eyes watering with unshed tears.
The Root ANBU got a mild shock from the lightning clone but the chakra in the clone wasn't a lot to make the shock stronger, after it was done with the clone the Root anbu turned toward Antares one again.
Then the air split from multiple figures.
Swoosh* BZZzzt*
Four masked figures landed across the broken path with a lightning shunshin.
BOLT operatives.
Their armor was dark.
Their masks were blank with the symbol of the hidden cloud but with a distinct lightning going through the clouds.
Their chakra felt sharp and ready.
The lead operative raised one hand.
"Protect the young lords," the BOLT captain said, his voice cold through the mask focusing on the enemies.
The Root ANBU's did not speak, not wanting to chat with the new threats to their mission.
Both sides moved at the same time.
Clang!*
Steel met steel.
Boom!*
A BOLT operative kicked one Root through a wooden pillar.
Another BOLT operative appeared behind the second Root and slashed down with a lightning coated blade.
The Root twisted away.
Barely.
For a second, the fight became chaotic to Antares' eyes.
Blue sparks and Black clothes flew around his vision
He also saw the blurring white mask with and without insignia blurring, and blood flying through the air.
Then one Root ANBU stopped moving, He stood in the center of the broken hall.
Too still and very abnormal behavior to do in a fight.
The BOLT operative in front of him narrowed his eyes.
"Move back!" he shouted to the other BOLT operatives.
The Root ANBU reached for his cloak.
Then the ANBU opened it.
Paper bomb seals covered the inside.
Dozens.
Maybe more.
All glowing.
Antares' eyes widened.
The Root ANBU's voice was flat, not even a bit of conviction or any emotions in his words.
Just pure emptiness being heard from his voice.
"For Konoha," the Root ANBU said as the seals ignited.
Boom!*
Fire swallowed the hallway.
The explosion tore through the estate wall and blasted stone into the air.
Two BOLT operatives were thrown across the path as they were in the process of attacking that root member.
One crashed through a railing.
The other hit the ground hard and rolled, armor smoking.
The remaining two stayed on their feet.
Barely as the explosion shook the estate.
Smoke filled the air.
Coughing.
Ringing ears and burning wood flying through the air.
Antares could barely hear anything as he started coughing from the burning smoke.
Then a shadow moved through the smoke.
The remaining Root ANBU.
Heading straight for him.
Unruly Ay saw it too, His eyes widened and he shouted.
"No!"
Bzzzt!*
He tried to activate his Lightning Cloak again.
The chakra sparked and flickered.
Unruly Ay froze.
His body had reached its limit.
The Root ANBU appeared in front of him.
Boom!*
A knee slammed into Ay's stomach.
Ay coughed blood.
Before he could fall, the Root caught his wrist, twisted, and drove him into the stone path.
Crack!*
Unruly Ay hit the ground hard.
His Lightning Cloak vanished completely.
Antares stared.
His brother had lost.
Not because he was weak.
Because he was young and tired.
Because the Root ANBU had never been taking him seriously in the first place.
The assassin stepped over Unruly Ay's body and moved toward Antares.
Step*
Step*
Antares tried to move.
His legs did not listen.
The Root ANBU reached for him.
Then the eastern wall of the estate exploded inward, a hand coated in lightning phasing through.
BOOM!
Stone, wood, and dust blasted across the room.
A massive figure entered through the broken wall, lightning crawling over his damaged body.
The Third Raikage.
Burned and bleeding.
Still injured from fighting the 8 Tails.
And still the most terrifying thing in the room.
His right hand was shaped like a spear.
Lightning screamed around his fingers and arching across his body.
Bzzzt!
The Root ANBU closest to him turned.
Too late.
The Raikage vanished.
Step.
Shing!
His lightning spear hand pierced straight through the Root operative's chest.
The assassin's body went rigid.
Blood spilled onto the floor.
The Third Raikage lifted him off the ground with one hand.
"You entered my home," Ay said, his voice low and heavy filled with anger.
The Root ANBU twitched once.
Only once.
"And touched my family." as Ay ripped his hand free from the root ANBU.
The body dropped on the floor.
Thud*
No one moved.
Then another figure landed near the broken wall.
Code name Ikazuchi.
BOLT's second in command.
She carried Misaki in her arms.
Misaki looked pale and heavily exhausted.
Her breathing was heavy, and blood trailed from the corner of her mouth, but her eyes were wide with rage.
"Antares!" Misaki shouted, trying to push herself out of Ikazuchi's hold.
Ikazuchi held her firmly.
"Lady Misaki, you cannot stand," Ikazuchi said, her voice tense but controlled.
"I don't care!" Misaki snapped at her.
Then the last Root ANBU moved.
Fast.
Too fast.
He appeared behind Antares and grabbed him by the throat.
A cold kunai pressed against the side of Antares' neck.
Antares froze.
The Third Raikage stopped.
Misaki stopped breathing.
Ikazuchi's hand moved toward her blade.
The Root ANBU pulled his cloak open slightly.
Paper bomb seals lined the inside.
Not as many as before.
But enough.
The Root ANBU's voice was empty.
"One step and the target dies with me," the Root ANBU said, pressing the blade closer to Antares' skin.
Antares felt the edge bite.
A tiny line of blood ran down his neck.
His breathing broke.
No
No
No
His mind screamed in protest.
He had died once already.
He did not even remember how fully, but he knew it.
And now this new life is about to end here too.
In his own home no less, In front of his mother and father.
Because he could not move and fight like the others.
Because every time danger came, someone else had to step in front of him because of how weak he still is.
His Mother.
His brother Unruly Ay.
BOLT operatives.
His father.
Everyone.
Everyone except him.
'I don't want to die,' Antares thought as his eyes shook from his overwhelming emotions.
The Root ANBU's grip tightened.
'I don't want this life to end already.'
His chest burned.
Fear turned into anger.
Ugly.
Hot.
Humiliating.
'I said I would reach the top.'
His fingers twitched.
'I said I wouldn't be weak.'
The warmth inside him stirred.
Not gently.
Not slowly.
It surged.
'I've been coasting.'
The thought hit harder than the blade.
'I've been acting smart trying to impress the people around me.'
His breathing changed.
'I'm not some prince in a tower.' he thought again in distress as his chakra channeled through his coils
The Root ANBU shifted slightly, preparing to move.
'I'm not a damsel.' as his eyes went white not in control of his body and mind went blank.
Misaki's face abruptly changed sensing a chakra build up with her Kaguras Mind eye.
"Antares, stop!" Misaki shouted, panic cutting through her voice.
Too late.
The chakra inside Antares erupted.
BZZZZT!
Lightning exploded from his body in every direction.
Wild and uncontrolled.
Overfed by his Uzumaki vitality and chakra too dense for a child his age.
The Root ANBU's eyes widened behind the mask.
For the first time, he looked afraid.
The lightning tore through his cloak.
Paper bomb seals burned out before they could activate.
Crack!
His defensive chakra shattered.
The blade melted near Antares' neck.
The assassin tried to let go.
He couldn't.
Antares' chakra swallowed him.
Boom!
The blast threw the Root ANBU across the room.
His mask shattered.
His cloak burned away.
His body slammed into the far wall and collapsed unconscious, smoke rising from his armor.
The entire estate went silent.
Antares stood there for one second.
Eyes white.
Lightning crawling over his small body.
Then it vanished.
His eyes rolled back.
Misaki screamed his name.
"ANTARES!" Misaki shouted in worry for her son
And he collapsed.
Ay who was ready to substitute with antares and take the blast stopped and rushed toward the Root ANBU to subdue him and extract information later on.
"Ikazuchi" he shouted towards his Deputy BOLT commander
"Sir" she answered her face stoic behind her mask
"Put him in a stasis scroll and drug him so he doesn't wake up until we are ready to question him" he told her sternly as he held 2 fingers on the side of the root's neck checking and confirming a pulse.
'Konoha will pay for this offence' he thought to himself as he looked at his sons on the floor, his cloak fading away and feeling absolutely livid.
