Chapter 86 - The Serpent’s Kindness

Her hand was warm. 

Invisibility settled over us like a second skin, bending light and attention away from us as we made our way back to my lodging.

It required contact to maintain, so thankfully, she didn't pull away. 

Her fingers were still damp from the fountain. And the light coat I had given her was soaked through now. 

I made sure not to look when I started noticing. 

She hardly looked at me either. 

It had surprised me how he had just stormed off. I knew after that ordeal earlier, she would likely have been unsettled by me, but the fact that she chose to come with me over him must be very telling about their relationship. 

I was certain he had also likely been the one to have shoved her into the fountain. 

I spared a brief glance at her. 

She still hadn't said anything. 

Her scent surrounded me.

It was intense. I had been roaming around the castle grounds earlier to find the source of what I had smelled on the King.
