Chapter 7 - Heart Attack

Jason didn't waste another second and called his mom back immediately. He held the phone to his ears; his heartbeat was still thudding. After two rings she picked up the call.

"Mom? Is everything okay?" Jason asked her as soon as he heard the call was received.

"Yes, honey, everything is fine. I'm sorry I called so many times. Your cousin Phil called me earlier this morning." Her calming, familiar voice came through the speaker.

Jason let out a long sigh.

"Mom, you scared the shit out of me. I thought something was seriously wrong."

"No, honey. It's just that Phil said a friend of his has a company that's hiring right now. He gave me a number and told me to send it to you as soon as possible. But I don't know how to do that on these smartphones. Sigh." His mom said.

Jason rubbed his forehead.

"Oh, alright. Don't worry, Mom. I will help you."

After giving her mom a few steps of instructions, her mom finally managed to give him the number.

Who even needs a job now? I have got a system. I am making money every time my heart beats. But if I don't call that guy, my cousin will make a damn scene. And I still need something to cover this income. Fine, I will make the call.

Jason called that number. After a few rings, the call was finally received.

"Hello?" An impatient voice answered from the other side of the phone.

"Uh, hello. My cousin Phil gave me this num—"

"Oh yeah, yeah. Phil's cousin. Did he brief you on the job?" The man cut in immediately.

"No, he just send me the num—"

"Okay. Where do you live?" The man cut him off again.

Jason frowned a little.

Jesus Christ, can I finish one sentence?

"Oak Street, Rigit Apartments."

"Nice. My office is only about 15 minutes away from there. Come meet me today at 4:00 P.M. I am texting you the location. Call me when you get here."

"Today I—"

Click. Beep Beep.

Jason slowly lowered the phone, staring at the call ended screen in disbelief.

"Damn this son of a bitch. Before I could even refuse, he hung up on me." Jason muttered and gritted his teeth in frustration.

Ding!

The notification popped down from the top of his cracked screen; it was a location pin for the noodle map.

Sigh!! What the hell does he think he is? Fine. I will go. But if I'm doing this stupid interview, I'm going to do it on my terms.

A crooked smirk appeared on his face.

I'll demand a salary so outrageously high that he will choke on his own spit. It'll be worth it just for the entertainment.

Jason checked the time and realized he had a little over an hour to get ready.

The quests will have to wait. First I'm going to give that guy a damn heart attack.

Jason tossed the phone onto his bed and headed for the bathroom to take a shower. After taking a shower, he decided to heart attack the man in formal clothes, so he wore a white shirt with a black tie, a 3-piece purple-colored suit, and a pair of black formal shoes.

It was almost 4:00 P.M. when he left his apartment room. A few minutes later Jason arrived at the location the man had sent him earlier. It was an apartment building. The iron gate was closed, and the security guard was nowhere to be found.

Jason took the phone out of his pocket and called that number.

Ring… Ring… The number you have called is currently busy now.

It rang 2 times, and the call was cut.

What the hell? Is this guy's brain wired wrong?

A minute later, his phone rang.

The call came from that number. He answered.

"I'm outside the building." Jason said.

"Okay wait."

Click

The man ended the call. Jason stared at the phone again.

This motherfucker is getting on my nerves.

He waited impatiently for a few minutes before finally the iron gate opened and a skinny man in his early thirties stepped out. He wore a t-shirt and baggy pants, had a goatee, and his arms were covered in tattoos.

"Are you Phil's cousin?" The man asked.

"Yes. I'm." Jason replied.

"Come with me."

Without waiting, the man turned around and went inside.

Jason followed him a few steps behind. They took the stairs instead of the elevator. Jason looked around.

Where the fuck is he taking me to? He said it will be an office. But It looks like a typical resident apartment.

The man stopped on the first floor, took out a key from his pocket, and opened a glass door.

Jason frowned.

Who is this guy? Why was the office closed?

The man took off his sandal and stepped inside.

"Take off your shoes." The man said, went inside, and sat on a chair behind the computer desk.

Jason took off his shoes, stepped inside, and looked around. It was a small-sized room with just a desktop and 2 chairs. Nothing more.

The man gestured for him to sit. Jason nodded and sat on the chair on the opposite side of the computer desk.

"My name is Rhythm, and I own an e-commerce business." The man said and held out his hand.

He?... Is the owner? I thought it would be some old man in a suit. But this dude looks like some punk ass bitch.

Jason shook the man's hand and said, "Jason Cole."

"Alright, let's get straight to the point. I need trustworthy people. Phil is my childhood friend, and he told me that you are reliable. And I need reliable and trusted people like you. Do you have any job experience?"

Jason slightly shook his head and replied, "No. I don't have any exp—"

"Okay, no problem, I need freshers anyway." Rhythm interrupted Jason before he could complete his sentence.

Jason stared at him.

Motherfucker, can I finish one sentence?

Rhythm kept talking.

"Basically I need an all-rounder. You have to do everything in the office except clean it. There aren't many employees in the office, so I won't provide food. It has a kitchen, so you can heat your own meal in the oven."

He paused, then added, "Also, this isn't actually the office. You'll be working on Bailey Street. About thirty minutes by metro."

"Okay, but what do I have to do in the office?" Jason asked.

"I told you, everything. From opening the door for the client to handling them, I will give you access to the page. You have to reply to the clients in the message. My manager will guide you, so don't worry." He grabbed a paper from his desk drawer and put it on top of the desk and started to write on it.

Name: Jason cole

Time: 9-8

"You have to work from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. And I will pay you on a monthly basis. So… what is your expectation about salary?

"Okay, Can I clear something with you first without interruption?" Jason asked as he was super frustrated with his continuous interruption.

Rhythm was shocked. He paused for a second before replying, "Eh… Oh yeah, sure you can."

"So let me get this straight, I have to do everything in the office, which means all the responsibility is on me. And then I work, what, eleven hours a day?"

Rhythm slightly nodded.

Jason narrowed his eyes. "Saturday and Sunday off?"

"Only Sunday." Rhythm shook his head and said.

Jason gave a dry laugh. "Alright. So that's, what, 260 plus hours a month?" Jason stopped for a moment. He leaned back in his chair and folded his arms. A smirk appeared on his face.

"I am expecting $200,000 a month." Jason said with a smirk on his face.

Rhythm's eyes nearly popped out of his skull. He shot up so fast the chair tipped backward.

Baam!!

Augh! Ouch!!

Rhythm fell over with the chair, crashing to the floor. Jason couldn't hold it. He burst out laughing.

Rhythm got up red-faced and embarrassed, shoved the chair upright, and sat back down. Then, with a stiff expression, he started to write onto the paper in front of him:

$200,000 monthly

"Okay, I will let you know." saying that, he held out his hand.

Jason knew exactly what that meant. He stood up, grabbed his hand and shook it.

Rhythm makes a forceful smile.

Jason let his hand go and went towards the gate. When he was wearing his shoes, he saw Rhythm was grabbing his own back, and his face became red.

Heh, serves you right. Asshole.

Jason stepped out onto the street, feeling pretty damn good about himself.

Now let me grab lunch. I'm dressed like a businessman, so nobody's going to mess with me this time. I should eat somewhere decent.

As he was thinking about grabbing lunch. Just then—

Jason pulled out his phone from his pocket. It was Kaitlyn.

Kaitlyn? In this hour?

He answered immediately and put the phone to his ear.

"Sorry to bother you, Jason. Can you meet me today at 8?" Kaitlyn said, her voice rushed and tight.

"Hey… are you okay? What happened?" Jason frowned his eyebrows.

"Yes—but I don't have time to explain right now. Can you come to Quintail Restaurant at 8 P.M.?"

"Yeah. I'll be there." Jason didn't hesitate and said.

"Thank you, you are a lifesaver. Okay Bye." she said, her voice dropping slightly, and hung up.

Jason lowered the phone slowly, staring at the dark screen.

The hell is going on today? Why is everyone in a hurry? And what kind of emergency does she have?
