Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Address That Shouldn’t Exist

The note felt heavier than paper. Aarav had read it again and again, yet every word still carried the same unsettling weight: "If you're reading this, Aarav… then you didn't listen." and "Please stop looking for me." It didn't feel like a simple request—it felt like a warning. But Aarav had already gone too far to turn back now. Whatever this was, whatever she had left behind, it was no longer something he could ignore.

That night, sleep refused to come. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw fragments of the past weeks—her smile, her voice, the way she stood at the bus stop, and the silence she had left behind. But this time, something else surfaced in his thoughts. Something he hadn't noticed before. Patterns. Naina had never spoken randomly. Every question she asked had depth, every word had meaning. Slowly, those moments began to replay differently in his mind, as if they were trying to reveal something he had missed.

Suddenly, one memory stood out. "I work at a design studio… it's not very far from here." At that time, it had seemed like a casual statement. Now, it felt deliberate. Aarav sat up instantly, his heartbeat quickening. What if she hadn't just been talking about distance? What if she meant something else—something hidden beneath her words?

He grabbed the notebook she had left behind and began flipping through it again, this time with sharper attention. Earlier, he had seen only random sketches and scattered thoughts, but now he was looking for something more—something intentional. As he turned page after page, his eyes caught a repeated shape. A square. It appeared again and again, sometimes clearly drawn, sometimes hidden within designs. It didn't feel like coincidence. It felt like a pattern.

Leaning closer, Aarav noticed small markings near one of the squares. Tiny numbers, almost hidden. His breath caught. Carefully, he copied them onto a piece of paper. At first, they seemed meaningless, but then a realization struck him—they looked like coordinates. His heart began to race. Without wasting time, he opened his phone and entered the numbers. The screen loaded for a moment before revealing a location.

It wasn't far from the bus stop.

Aarav stared at the screen, his mind racing. "Is this where she went?" he whispered. The thought sent a chill through him, but also something else—determination. He grabbed his jacket and left immediately, unable to sit still any longer.

The city was quieter at night, but the silence felt heavier than usual. As he followed the directions, the roads became less crowded, the buildings older, the surroundings unfamiliar. A strange unease settled inside him. When he finally reached the location, he stopped in his tracks.

In front of him stood an old building.

It looked abandoned.

The walls were cracked, paint peeling away in layers, and broken windows stared back like empty eyes. The gate hung half open, creaking slightly in the wind. Aarav felt a hesitation rise within him, but he pushed it aside. "This doesn't make sense," he muttered, yet he stepped forward anyway.

The moment he entered, the air felt different—colder, still, almost suffocating. His footsteps echoed unnaturally loud as he walked inside. Dust covered everything, and the silence felt unnatural, as if the building itself was holding its breath. Aarav tried to shake off the feeling that he wasn't alone, but it lingered, crawling under his skin.

He moved from one room to another, each one empty, lifeless. Nothing seemed to connect. Nothing explained why he was there. And then he saw it.

A door.

Unlike the others, it wasn't broken or damaged.

It was closed.

Aarav's heartbeat grew louder. Slowly, he approached it. Something about it felt wrong, as if it didn't belong in that place. He reached for the handle, hesitating for just a second.

Before he could decide—

The door opened on its own.

A cold breeze brushed past him, and from inside, a faint light flickered. Aarav froze, his breath catching. "This isn't normal," he whispered, but his curiosity overpowered his fear. Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside.

The room was small and nearly empty.

Except for one thing.

A table.

And on it—

A single envelope.

Aarav walked closer, his pulse pounding in his ears. His hands trembled slightly as he picked it up. Written on it, in clear handwriting, was his name.

Aarav.

His breath stopped. "How…?" he whispered. This wasn't coincidence anymore. This was planned. Someone had expected him to be here.

He opened the envelope slowly, his fingers tightening as he unfolded the note inside.

"You came."

His heart raced.

"I knew you would."

A chill ran down his spine.

"But you shouldn't have."

The room suddenly felt colder.

"Now you're part of this."

Aarav's eyes widened as he read the final line.

"And there's no going back."

Silence filled the room. The words echoed in his mind, heavier than anything he had felt before. Part of what? What had he stepped into?

And then—

A sound.

Behind him.

Aarav turned sharply.

The door had closed.

On its own.

His breathing grew uneven as he stared at it. "Who's there?" he called out, his voice breaking the silence.

No answer.

Just silence.

And then—

Footsteps.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Coming from outside the room.

Aarav's heart pounded violently now. Someone was there. Watching him. Waiting. The realization hit him all at once—this was no longer just about Naina. This was something bigger. Something dangerous.

And he had walked straight into it.
