Chapter 9 – Amusement Park Chaos
The school parking lot was buzzing with excitement. After days of pleading, teasing, and whining from JJ and Cin, Section E had finally agreed to a spontaneous trip to the amusement park.
"I swear, if I have to see one more bored face this weekend, I'm dragging all of you by the ear to the park," JJ had declared earlier, her arms crossed and brows furrowed.
Cin had chimed in with a mischievous grin: "Yeah! You all know it's either amusement park or listen to us complain for eternity."
By late afternoon, the school vans were packed with excited students, cameras, snacks, and endless chatter. Keifer, as usual, had claimed the "responsible seat" at the front. He tried to read the bus route map but kept glancing back at JJ, who was quietly observing everyone, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she whispered jokes with Percy and Aries.
"Keep your eyes on the road, Watson," Percy whispered, nudging him. "She's clearly enjoying herself more than anyone here."
Keifer tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "That's exactly what worries me."

Arrival at the Park
The amusement park was alive with bright neon lights, screaming rides, and the smell of fried snacks that made the stomach growl. Section E burst out of the vans like a flock of excited birds. Felix was already filming Rory attempting to climb a "too scary" roller coaster, while David and Endrix were trying to convince Eman to go on a bumper car ride.
JJ, however, stayed close to Percy and Aries, watching the chaos with a quiet smile. She wasn't the type to jump into crowds, but the thrill in her brothers' faces made her heart race.
"You're too calm," Percy teased. "Smile, or people will think you're a ghost."
JJ smirked, "I'm not here to impress anyone."
Aries rolled his eyes. "You're already terrifying enough as it is."
Meanwhile, Keifer's eyes followed her every move. JJ laughed softly as she watched a clown struggle with a balloon stand. She didn't notice, but he was studying her every twitch, every smile, every movement—trying to figure out the quiet mystery who had become the center of his thoughts, whether he liked it or not.

Haunted House Incident
The haunted house ride loomed ahead, its facade adorned with fake cobwebs and flashing red lights. Section E hesitated at the entrance, whispering jokes to keep their nerves in check. JJ took a deep breath, curious but tense.
"This is going to be fun," she said softly. "And by fun, I mean terrifying."
The ride began with eerie music, dim lights, and fog crawling along the floor. The group moved cautiously, laughing nervously.
Then, from the shadows, a costumed actor jumped out with a horrifying scream. JJ's heart leaped. Instinctively, she screamed—and before she could think, she jumped into Keifer, who caught her firmly.
"JJ! Watch it!" Keifer muttered, half annoyed, half laughing.
The actor, startled by JJ's panic and her flailing kick, stumbled backward, crashing into a fake tombstone with a loud thud. JJ stared at him, wide-eyed, then let out a nervous laugh.
"I'm only dangerous to monsters," she said, brushing herself off. "And maybe to annoying Presidents."
Keifer scowled, the corner of his mouth twitching into amusement. "I knew you were dangerous," he said softly, almost to himself.
JJ's pulse was racing, and for a moment, her calm exterior from school completely vanished. She clutched his arm, breathing fast. He noticed the tremor in her hands, the way her fingers dug into his sleeve.
"You're way too reckless," he said, though there was a hint of softness in his voice.
"You're way too stiff for someone my age," JJ shot back, eyes bright.
Percy and Aries exchanged knowing grins at the back, silently enjoying the chemistry spark between the two.

The Panic Trigger
Suddenly, the fog machine spurted a stream of red-colored smoke, making the floor slippery. A tiny smear of red paint splattered across the ground. JJ froze. Her eyes widened. Her breathing hitched. The color—faintly resembling blood—hit something deep inside her memory.
"Don't… don't…" she whispered shakily. Her hands went to her face, eyes darting. The room seemed to spin.
Keifer was instantly by her side, kneeling in front of her. "Hey, hey, look at me. It's fine. It's safe… it's me, Keifer. I'm here."
JJ trembled violently, trying to pull away. She let out a short, terrified scream. "Don't… don't touch me…"
JJ's hands were shaking, her voice quivering. She flailed and kicked instinctively. Keifer tried to calm her down, whispering, "It's okay. You're safe. I won't let anything happen to you. You're with me…"
Slowly, after what felt like eternity, her breathing began to steady. She sank into Keifer's arms, still trembling, as if a storm had passed. The haunted house, the noise, the scares—all faded compared to the storm inside her mind.
When Section E and her brothers finally arrived, they froze at the sight. JJ, normally bold and untouchable, was leaning completely on Keifer, letting him shield her from the world.
Felix whispered under his breath: "Wow… I didn't know she had a side like this."
David added quietly: "Keifer… he's good with her."
Keifer, noticing all eyes on them, straightened slightly. "She's okay now. She's safe," he said firmly, his protective tone leaving no room for argument.
JJ, her face still flushed from the panic, gave a small smirk. "Don't make a scene."

After the Haunted House
Once the group recovered from the chaos, JJ wandered toward the snack stalls. Cotton candy in hand, her smile returned, though softer now. Keifer hovered nearby, awkwardly offering to carry her bag. Their hands brushed. A small spark shot through both of them, unspoken, undeniable.
"You're clumsy," Keifer said, trying to keep his voice steady.
"And you're way too serious," JJ replied, grinning.
They walked side by side, their shoulders occasionally bumping, small touches lingering. Percy and Aries followed at a distance, whispering and teasing each other.
JJ glanced up at Keifer, who tried to look nonchalant but kept stealing glances at her. The haunted house panic, the accidental kick, the red paint—everything had revealed a side of JJ he hadn't seen before: fearless, bold, yet vulnerable in ways that made him want to protect her forever.

Closing the Day
By the end of the day, as the park lights flickered and the group gathered to leave, JJ leaned slightly against Keifer while Percy and Aries joked around. Keifer's mind couldn't stop replaying her reactions, the way she had clung to him, and how, for the first time, he saw that she wasn't just a mysterious transfer student. She was someone who could break through walls, even his.
"Next time, you warn me before you jump into my arms," Keifer muttered, half annoyed, half smirking.
JJ laughed softly, eyes sparkling. "Next time, you better be ready for it, President."
And for a fleeting moment, the noise of the amusement park, the laughter of their friends, and the chaos of the haunted house faded away. It was just them—JJ and Keifer. Sparks flying silently, hearts racing, and a connection neither wanted to ignore.
