Chapter 44 - Chapter 44. The Fall of Baka

Chapter 44

The Fall of Baka

The demon stepped fully into the clearing.

For one long, breathless moment, the whole world seemed to shrink around him. Moonlight spilled through the trees like delicate silver threads, weaving softly through the branches above, but it dimmed beside the monstrous shape that now filled the rocky space. Baka stood nearly twice the height of any tall man, his body huge and twisted like an angry mountain carved by dark magic and ancient cruelty. His skin was rough and gray, cracked in places like old stone that had endured a thousand storms and centuries of forgotten battles. Long, dark veins pulsed beneath it, glowing faintly with a shadowy light that made the air around him feel colder and heavier. Jagged tusks curved from his wide mouth, stained dark from battles long past and feasts that no living creature wished to remember. His thick arms hung heavy at his sides, each one strong enough to snap thick trees like dry twigs.

His glowing red eyes locked first on the cart piled high with food.

Then, slowly… they slid toward Suyodhana.

The demon sniffed the night air with a loud, rumbling sound that rolled through the clearing like distant thunder.

"Hmmm…"

His voice rolled out like thunder trapped deep inside a cave, low and hungry.

"Food smells good tonight."

He licked his lips with a massive tongue, and a dark laugh shook loose pebbles from the mountain wall. The sound echoed through the trees, sending a few startled birds fluttering from their hidden nests.

"You look small for a tribute."

Suyodhana sat calmly on the flat rock beside the cart. His simple villager clothes moved gently in the cold wind that rolled down from the peaks like the breath of sleeping mountains. The faint mist around his feet curled slowly through the air like curious spirits watching the scene unfold.

He did not stand up right away.

Instead, he looked straight into those burning red eyes without a trace of fear.

"Well," he said in a steady, easy voice that carried quietly across the clearing, "the road was long."

Baka leaned forward, his huge face coming closer. The red glow in his eyes narrowed with surprise and growing curiosity.

"You are not shaking. That is strange."

He crouched lower, bringing his monstrous face so near that Suyodhana could feel the demon's hot breath blowing over him like a smoky wind rising from a dark furnace.

"Most humans cry by now."

Suyodhana gave a small shrug, his face still relaxed as if the creature before him were nothing more than a loud traveler blocking the road.

"I suppose I am not most humans."

Baka threw his head back and laughed loudly. The sound crashed through the clearing like rolling thunder across storm clouds, making the trees sway and the mist swirl faster across the ground. Leaves trembled and small stones rattled along the rocks.

"I like you!"

He grinned wide, showing rows of sharp teeth that gleamed like wet knives beneath the moonlight.

"You will taste better than the others."

Suyodhana stood up slowly. His body looked relaxed, his movements unhurried, but his eyes sharpened like a hawk spotting its target far below.

"That's funny," he said calmly.

"Because I was thinking the same thing."

Baka blinked once, confused.

"What?"

Suyodhana stretched his arms lightly, as if warming up for a friendly game beneath the moon. The silver mist drifted around him like a quiet audience waiting for the next act of a story yet to be written.

"You look like you would make a good trophy."

The demon's face twisted with sudden fury. His red eyes blazed brighter, glowing like twin fires in the darkness.

"You insolent worm!"

Baka's massive arm swung forward like a falling tree trunk. The air whistled violently around it, the sheer force of the movement sending loose dust and leaves flying through the clearing.

But before the claw could reach him—

A flash of pure light burst into the night.

SHHHING!

Steel sang like a star being born in the sky.

Suyodhana's celestial sword appeared in his hand in a swirl of silver sparkles, as if the blade itself had stepped out from the heavens. The weapon glowed with soft, living light that cut through the misty darkness, casting gentle rays across the rocks and trees. The blade hummed with quiet power, warm and steady in his grip, like a loyal companion ready for battle.

CLANG!

The sword met Baka's claw with a thunderous shockwave. The ground trembled beneath their feet as if the mountain itself had felt the clash. Dust and tiny stones exploded upward in a sparkling cloud that shimmered under the moonlight.

Baka stumbled backward in surprise, his huge body rocking like a tree struck by lightning during a raging storm.

"You…!"

The demon's red eyes widened in shock.

"You are no villager!"

Suyodhana smiled just a little.

"No."

He lifted the glowing blade high. The silver light danced across his face, making him look like a hero stepped straight out of the ancient forest legends whispered by wandering storytellers beside midnight fires.

"I'm the bait."

Then his voice rang out clear and strong through the trees, cutting through the night like a trumpet calling warriors to battle.

"NOW!"

The trap sprang to life in an instant.

Arrows rained down from the high branches like a silver storm of shooting stars. THUK! THUK! THUK! They whistled through the air, bright tips flashing in the moonlight like streaks of lightning across a midnight sky.

Karna's arrows flew fastest of all, each one blazing with golden streaks of sunlight magic that shimmered like miniature comets tearing through the darkness.

They struck Baka's shoulders and chest one after another, sparking fiercely against his tough skin and sending showers of bright embers dancing into the misty air.

Spearmen rushed out from both sides of the clearing like brave forest spirits answering the call of battle. "FOR THE FOREST!" they shouted together, their voices full of courage and fierce loyalty.

Hidden ropes woven with glowing vines snapped upward from the ground, wrapping tight around the demon's thick legs like living snakes awakened from ancient slumber. The enchanted vines pulsed faintly with green light, tightening with every heartbeat as if the forest itself had joined the fight.

Baka roared in anger. The sound shook the entire mountain, echoing through the valleys and sending birds flying in frightened clouds from distant trees.

"You insects!"

With one violent pull, he snapped two ropes as if they were nothing more than fragile threads. He swung his massive arm in a wide, furious arc. CRASH! Three Nishad warriors tumbled backward like leaves caught in a powerful storm wind.

One hunter rolled desperately across the ground as Baka's claw smashed the earth right beside him, cracking the stone with a deafening thunder that sent shards of rock scattering in every direction.

The battle exploded into beautiful chaos.

Suyodhana moved like a streak of silver lightning across the clearing. His celestial sword cut smooth, shining arcs through the air, leaving trails of radiant light that lingered for a moment like glowing ribbons. CLANG! CLASH! SPARK! Each strike rang against the demon's stone-like skin, sending bright showers of magical sparks bursting outward like fireworks beneath the trees. The sword's glow grew warmer with every swing, as if it drew strength directly from Suyodhana's brave heart and unwavering spirit.

High in the oak tree, Karna fired arrow after arrow. His golden bow sang like sweet thunder with every shot, the string vibrating with a deep musical hum. Each arrow left a trail of golden light that lit up the misty night sky like falling fragments of the sun itself.

"Keep him busy!" Karna called down, his voice steady and sure, echoing through the forest canopy.

Vikarna and Duraj fought side by side with their spears, jabbing and dodging with quick, practiced movements, forcing Baka to step backward little by little. Their faces shone with fierce determination, sweat glistening under the moonlight as it mixed with the cool forest mist swirling around them.

But the demon was enormous and full of wild fury.

With a deep roar, he ripped a huge rock from the ground, tearing it free from the earth like a child pulling a toy from the sand. The boulder was as big as a horse, its edges jagged and heavy.

"DIE!" Baka bellowed and hurled it through the air like a dark comet streaking across the sky.

The rock flew straight toward Dushshala.

She stood frozen for a split second, her eyes wide with shock as the shadow of the incoming boulder swallowed the moonlight around her.

Before it could strike—

A blur of swift movement flashed across the battlefield like a shooting star.

CRACK!

The rock shattered into a thousand pieces in mid-air. Fragments exploded outward in a glittering shower of stone dust that sparkled beneath the moonlight like broken diamonds falling from the sky.

Eklavya stood tall in front of her, his bow still raised from the perfect shot that had smashed the boulder apart. His posture was steady and calm, his eyes sharp like a hunter born of the forest.

He turned quickly, his kind eyes checking on her.

"Are you alright?"

Dushshala blinked in surprise. Her cheeks turned a soft pink like ripe forest berries glowing beneath the moonlight.

"I—I'm fine…" she whispered, her voice shy but grateful.

Eklavya nodded once, a small smile touching his lips.

"Good."

Then he turned back to the fight without another word, his bow already singing again as another arrow flew from the string with deadly grace.

The battle grew fiercer, like a storm dancing wildly through the ancient trees. Several warriors were knocked down as Baka swung his arms wildly, his rage growing with every wound. One Nishad hunter nearly fell under the demon's giant foot—

But a white blur shot across the field like a protective wind racing through the forest.

BHAM!

Bhishma's spear struck Baka's leg with the force of lightning crashing down from the heavens. The demon staggered, roaring in pain as the powerful strike forced him back a step.

Bhishma moved through the chaos like a calm storm given human form. His movements were graceful yet unstoppable, like a river carving its path through stone. He pulled injured warriors safely away from danger, his strong arms steady and gentle. Whenever Baka left even the smallest opening, Bhishma's spear flashed out like a bolt of silver lightning, striking true.

"Hold the line!" he commanded, his voice ringing with quiet authority and strength.

"We fight together!"

Suyodhana leaped forward again. Energy surged through his body like warm sunlight pouring into his veins, filling him with strength that seemed almost divine. His celestial sword blazed brighter than ever, its silver light pulsing like a living star in his hands.

"This ends now," he said softly, more to himself than anyone.

Baka roared once more and charged straight at him. The ground shook under his heavy steps, rocks bouncing like frightened rabbits across the clearing.

But Suyodhana ran right toward the monster, fearless and swift as the wind.

The moment the demon raised his massive arm—

Suyodhana vanished in a flash of silver light.

A heartbeat later, the glowing streak appeared behind Baka like lightning splitting the night sky.

SHING!

The celestial blade cut through the air… then through tough flesh… then through bone with a clean, bright sound that rang like a bell across the silent forest.

For one silent, magical moment, nothing moved.

The mist hung perfectly still.

The trees seemed to hold their breath.

Then Baka's huge body froze. A glowing line of silver light appeared across his thick neck. His red eyes widened in shock.

"You…"

His voice faded to a whisper.

And his enormous head crashed to the ground with a heavy THUD.

The body followed moments later, shaking the entire clearing like a small earthquake. Dust and magical sparks rose together in a gentle swirling cloud beneath the moonlight.

Silence fell across the battlefield, soft and golden like the peaceful calm after a storm.

Then—a soft, joyful chime echoed inside Suyodhana's mind, warm and bright like a friend's whisper carried by the wind.

Suyodhana lowered his glowing sword slowly. The blade's light softened, fading to a gentle shimmer before it vanished from his hand in a swirl of silver sparkles that drifted into the night like falling stardust.

Around him, the warriors stared in happy disbelief, their eyes wide with wonder at what they had just witnessed.

Then, one by one, the Nishads dropped to their knees on the rocky ground. Weapons lowered gently. Heads bowed in deep respect.

Hiranyadhanus stepped forward first, his voice trembling with pure gratitude.

"Prince Suyodhana…"

He knelt too, his eyes shining with emotion beneath the moonlight.

"You saved our people. You risked everything for us."

The entire tribe knelt together, their faces glowing with joy and fierce loyalty.

"We offer you our hearts," they said as one.

"Our loyalty is yours forever."

Behind them, the Kaurava brothers grinned proudly, clapping each other on the back with laughter and relief. Karna rested his golden bow over his shoulder, a quiet smile touching his face as he watched his friend.

Bhishma stood tall, his spear planted firmly beside him, smiling with calm and ancient pride.

Even Eklavya and Dushshala shared a quick, shy glance, their cheeks still warm beneath the moonlight.

Above them all, the forest itself seemed to sigh in relief. The ancient trees whispered softly in the wind, their leaves rustling like gentle applause for the victory. The mist glowed a little brighter now, swirling around the group in soft, friendly patterns. Fireflies returned in a sparkling cloud, dancing happily overhead like tiny stars celebrating the end of darkness.

The heavy, dark feeling that had hung over the mountain melted away, replaced by fresh, sweet night air that smelled of pine, earth, and victory.

The demon was gone.

His shadow no longer haunted the paths or the dreams of the forest people.

But something far greater had been born that night under the watchful stars. A warm, unbreakable bond had grown between a brave prince and the proud people of the forest. It was more than friendship—it was a promise of protection, of shared strength, of standing together no matter what adventures waited ahead.

Suyodhana looked around at every face, his heart full. He felt the new strength in his body from the rewards, but the real gift was the loyalty shining in their eyes.

The night felt lighter now. The stars seemed to twinkle brighter, as if the sky itself was smiling down on them.

And somewhere deep in the trees, the forest sang a quiet song of thanks.
