Chapter 5 - Chapter 4 - Discharge

'Let's retrace my steps here.'

'I woke up my heart beating, It got out of control so I look for my Angina medication.'

'The Angina medication was actually poison.'

'What was poison doing on my desk anyways?'

'Was it an assassination attempt?'

'No, way, my father and the royal family are both disassociated with me'

'I've made sure not to use my full name in research papers too. I go by an acronym.'

'What about people who know me, let's see.'

'My father.'

'No, he couldn't care less about what I do, he just pays for shit.'

'Dim.'

'He's loyal, I picked him up on the streets, I mean he's my only friend for a reason.'

'My family doctor.'

'He hasn't assigned any new medicine lately, just the weekly checkups.'

'Who else…'

'…'

'Wow. I'm lonely.'

'Welp! I'm at a standstill, great detective work.'

Xavier had the pieces to the puzzle, it was just he didn't have the picture on the box to guide him.

'Maybe the nurse will tell me something."

"Huuuuuu."

Xavier audibly sighed putting his interlocked his fingers behind his head.

"Lost in thought?"

Xavier turned his head, he looked past the empty tray devoid of apples and the half drunk coffee that were on his hospital table, to a young woman, about the age of 24, She wore a navy blue hospital gown and she smelt of disinfectant alcohol, her orange hair was tied in a bun. She looked ordinary with her black eyes and slightly glossed lips. On her chest was a neatly arranged name tag:

"Lily."

Lily took a look at Xavier her eyebrows creased up and she smiled subtlety.

"That's my name. I'm your nurse."

'Speak of the devil.'

"Oh you startled me, I'm so sorry."

"You don't seem startled."

"Getting startled is like a death sentence for me."

"Oh, right with your conditi-"

Lily stopped, realizing only now how unprofessional and insensitive she was being. Falling silent, she shifted in her chair a bit, before finally getting to the main point.

"Okay, so it seems like all your checks are fine, there was a little problem with the bleeding on your hands and chest though we were able to stop it and you should be completely fine after 4 months and a couple visits from your family doctor but there's a problem…"

She paused, muttering something under and mouth as if rehearsing lines and nodding.

"Problem?"

Xavier rose his eyebrows curiously.

"Well you see, the poison we found inside of you, seemed to be seeping into your blood, and before we could get it out, it got into your mana vein's because of it's holes. Your mana is also teetering on the edge of ethereal and fluid, therefore the holes in your vein let in blood and mana and leak out blood and mana. So essentially poison has entered your mana stream.

She paused to catch her breath and she inhaled trying to finish what she was saying in one more go.

"The poison's purpose was to stop your heart, which it did before it went sideway and entered your mana stream, while mana is a force that can amplify, since your mana is mixed with your blood it is very strong, but that also applies to the poison. But seeing how you're still alive It can be concluded that your blood has turned a venomous quality. That's what the Mage said."

She breathed in relief and wiped her head of sweat seemingly proud of herself for relaying all that information without missing a beat.

'Is she even qualified?'

Xavier looked at the woman baffled, his eye's squinted in concern.

Lily was unbothered as she held up her fingers holding up four.

She tapped her chin with her other hand, her eyes looked elsewhere as she pulled two fingers down.

'Two out of the four eh?'

'I hope she get's fired.'

She smiled and did a little jump in realization as she said.

"Don't worry, we've already informed your uncle, it's too bad he could come here. Unfortunately their work was too important."

"What? Uncle?"

The nurse looked at the clock and immediately stood up from her chair. Much to Xavier's dismay, she dug into her pockets and pulled out a card, and proceeded to gently placed said card on his bed.

"You are discharged now! Make sure to contact the Magic Tower to find out. About your magic or whatever."

She scurried off her feet moving like the wind. Off to some other poor patient to break probably even worse news to, in the exact same manner.

The old lady that was staring holes in Dim on the other bed spoke up, her voice empathetic.

"That's how she revealed I had cancer too. Just yesterday in fact. She's a weird one I tell ya. They just be hiring randoms these days."

Xavier pulled the covers of his blankets down taking a glance at the old lady, and lifted his leg and placed them on the tiles of the hospital floor.

The pain in his torso and hands were mostly gone, replaced by stiffness instead.

Xavier took a look at the window to the left of him before taking a deep sigh.

'Great.Guess I have more things to think about now.'

"Uncle."

He muttered, an unfamiliar word that tasted weirdly on his mouth.
